Humans of New York
Humans of New York | Brandon Stanton
Based on the blog with more than four million loyal fans, a beautiful, heartfelt, funny, and inspiring collection of photographs and stories capturing the spirit of a city Now an instant #1 New York Times bestseller, Humans of New York began in the summer of 2010, when photographer Brandon Stanton set out to create a photographic census of New York City. Armed with his camera, he began crisscrossing the city, covering thousands of miles on foot, all in an attempt to capture New Yorkers and their stories. The result of these efforts was a vibrant blog he called "Humans of New York," in which his photos were featured alongside quotes and anecdotes. The blog has steadily grown, now boasting millions of devoted followers. Humans of New York is the book inspired by the blog. With four hundred color photos, including exclusive portraits and all-new stories, Humans of New York is a stunning collection of images that showcases the outsized personalities of New York. Surprising and moving, Humans of New York is a celebration of individuality and a tribute to the spirit of the city.

I was so thrilled with my gift from the Jólabókaflód Swap that I decided to make it my first read of the year. Humans of New York embodies what I hope to see magnified in the coming year: tolerance, acceptance and a lot more unconditional love between human kind.
Happy New Year out there and everywhere! May 2021 deliver more blessings than we can number.?

Love this 📷. Any of my fellow littens collect coffeetable books? If so what are some you love? Me not a collector but i do always have to flip through when i see them. I remember getting lost in Humans of New York at a friends house a few years ago i totally checked outta the conversation & into the book. Any coffeetable book grab a hold of your attention? ☕📔

Brandon Stanton's HONY project first began in 2010 offering glimpses into the lives of NYC people. Five years later, Stanton's photo series expanded to different countries and continues with sharing people's personal stories among his 20 million social media followers.

Day 16. #riotgrams #setnearwhereyoulive Based on threads on Facebook I know I'm not the only New Yorker who wonders what they would say to Brandon Stanton from Humans of New York should he approach me in the street/park/subway.

When you're questioning humanity the day after the second US presidential debate, you need to get out your Humans of New York book to remember there's still lots of diverse love in the world ... and everyone has a story. ❤️

Spending a day in the city just makes you want to buy all the books! We walked past The Strand, but it was waaayyy to crowded to go in on a weekend. Either way, @BookItBilly and I enjoy the 18 miles of books.

I don't have a #faveplacetorelax because my default state of being is decidedly unrelaxed. I'm constantly on the move, both externally and internally. My favorite place in the world, though, is my hometown. It's not often conducive to relaxation, but there are times when I look around and think, "Yes. Okay. Of course." And that's as close to relaxation as I get. #augustphotochallenge #augustofpages #nofilter

MrBook Loved this book! Met him at BookCon when he gave a discussion/talk. A really smart dude, as @BookBabe will attest. My favorite reading spot in the City is an unusual hard-to-find hideaway never used, But Clearly front-&-center for all to observe from across the moat, but unfortunately not Winter-conducive. (Is that enough clues? Lol. It's so unique you may not ever figure it out 😆😜!) 8y
katedensen @MrBook "Never used" and visible from Jersey (which is what I assume you mean by "across the moat") makes me think you're talking about the park near the Little Red Lighthouse...? 8y
MrBook Nope. My clue-making needs refinement 😂😂😂. Sorry about that. I'm an amateur here. It's in Manhattan, of course. The moat is an actual moat, although I don't know if that's what it's officially referred to as. 8y
See All 12 Comments
MrBook But I do know which park you're referring to and I like that area as well 😊👍🏻. 8y
katedensen @MrBook I was clearly overthinking this. Belvedere Castle in Central Park? That overlooks the reservoir, which is maybe the moat in question? 8y
MrBook Yes!!!! 😆🙌🏻 8y
MrBook Now where at the Castle, that's the kicker 😊👍🏻. 8y
katedensen @MrBook I win! 🤗 💪🏻 8y
katedensen @MrBook I've never been inside the castle, so I give up on that front. The curse of being a native New Yorker: there's tons of stuff you've never seen or done. I have also never been to the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building. 8y
MrBook The shaaaame, lol. That's alright, it's normal with hometowns. I'll show you my spot sometime. Only @BookBabe knows it. 8y
BookBabe @katedfisher Very impressive deduction! 👏🏻😁 8y

The TBR Tuesday pile is much smaller now that I'm done with the Raven Cycle. Plus, I'm gearing up for a reread of a much-loved series after I finish The Name of the Wind (and probably Wise Man's Fear too).

One of my favorite Humans of New York stories featured in the book - "When my husband was dying, I said: 'Moe, how am I supposed to live without you?' He told me: 'Take the love you have for me and spread it around.'" ❤️
