🎧 Audible $6 sale. As usual I can‘t resist.
I listened to the Eric Idle book on Libby awhile ago & would listen again!! The hardcover is on my Amazon Book Wishlist. The other three books just look good & they‘re a bit long for a library loan. Country music really isn‘t my jam 😆 honest ... but the man in black ... looks like an interesting book.
I narrowed it down to 16.
I bought 4 above & thank you Libby & Hoopla for 6 new library loans.
🎧 I loved this book. Lots of earned name dropping! Funny behind the scenes secrets. Just a load of seemingly honest stories. I‘m buying the audiobook and will listen to it again!! So funny! Awesome narrator!! Recommended if your a fan of Monty Python!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4
Finished reading this one recently. I love just about anything Python so I found this delightful.
I've been on a biography/autobiography kick for a while, and this was one of my lighter choices. This was a quick, fun read. I enjoy the Pythons, but had never read anything about how they got started.
His long friendship with George Harrison was particularly interesting. You can tell Idle just wanted to write a "light" memoir, without mud-slinging or rehashing the bad. He sticks mostly to the bright side of his life, appropriately enough.
I never got into Monty Python. I mainly know Eric Idle as the narrator from Ella Enchanted. It was fascinating to hear about his life and his work with John Cleese and the rest of them.
I love Monty Python so I was excited to read Eric Idle‘s take. Lots of funny stories and celebrity gossip, but at its core it‘s just a chronology.
America used to be about the pursuit of happiness, but they seem to have exchanged that for the pursuit of money, fame, and Twitter followers.
The miracle of Brian is that it got made at all, which was entirely due to the generosity of George Harrison. Asked why he mortgaged his Henley home to pay for the entire $4.5 million budget of Monty Python‘s Life of Brian, he said, “Because I wanted to see the movie.” It‘s still the most anyone has ever paid for a cinema ticket.
Perhaps everyone should be crucified for a few days, because it does give you a good perspective on life.

When insomnia strikes after a middle of the night call, might as well look on the bright side of life...and read.
I enjoyed this memoir, particularly the photos, the stories of his friendships with George Harrison and Robin Williams, and the glimpses into screenwriting, playwriting and composing (namely the composition of "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life").
I'm catching up on reviews for the books I finished at the end of March, so I will have several posts tonight.
Monty Python is amazing, but unfortunately, this book isn't. 😕 Listening to Eric Idle read to me was probably my favorite part. The book was like one long name dropping, party story with occasional funny bits about the guys in Monty Python. I might have liked it better too if it had been a bit shorter.
Solid 4.5 stars. Listened to the audiobook, read by the author. Yeah, plenty of name dropping, but it was all good, as far as I am concerned.
I have this on audio book and it is really good so far. Eric narrates it himself. Well, of course he does it could hardly have been anyone else. I'm about 30% through it by now. I'm also being considered for a shortlist with a museum at the moment.

One of hubby‘s Christmas books. He‘s an obsessive Python fan, me, no thanks 🤷♀️

Cheer up, Brian. You know what they say.
Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad.
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle,
Don't grumble, give a whistle!
And this'll help things turn out for the best
And
Always look on the bright side of life!
Always look on the bright side of life
Snuggling with the pup for a bit and diving into “something completely different!”
It's actually a pretty #sunnysunday around here, and I'm spending mine with an #audiobook. #currentlylistening #montypython #aNewChapter
Honestly, I prefer biographies to autobiographies, much less fake humility and dreaded humblebrags. That said, it's hard not to enjoy this book, despite Idle's incessant name dropping. He's extremely witty and charming, the kind of person you'd like to meet at a party because he would keep you entertained with stories, funny songs and just a joy of life. 3 💥💥💥 1/2 out of 5.
I adore Monty Python‘s absurdist sense of humor (Yes, more than Black Adder, more than Terry Pratchet, more than Douglas Adams...) and, yes, I went through that phase where I could recite virtually every line of every skit, and yes, I adore the movies, so this was especially appreciated!
“Thank you very much!
Thank you very much!
Thank you very, very, very, very much!”

I wasn't enamored early in the book, when Idle was talking about his cheating and general misbehavior. Then he started name-dropping, and it got a little more interesting. His close friends included George Harrison, David Bowie, Steve Martin, and more. Idle speaks with genuine affection about his friends and their adventures together. He also had some similar experiences and likes as my (also British) dad, which made the reading familiar to me.
Another glorious day for an #audiowalk
Between listening to this audiobook, getting support from my Litten friends, and seeing a Teddy Roosevelt re-creator last night with his Can-Do attitude, I'm feeling much better today!
#BookMail Pt2 My other preorder that came today from Waterstones is Eric Idles memoir about his days in Monty Python & his career since. I love Python, when I was a kid in the 70s, my brother had their records & would play them all the time. The “Parrot Sketch” is still one of my all time fave skits. And their movies! Life Of Brian, Holy Grail, Meaning Of Life🙌 So many lines “I‘ll thump him if he calls me big nose again” “Tis but a flesh wound”🤣
Hope this isn‘t verboten to post a quote from an ARC, but this was too good to pass up!
KnowWhatIMean, wink-wink, nudge-nudge! 😂😉
Approved for ARC! SPLEE!!! (I know you‘re already whistling the song in your head 😗)
