Number 6 for#24in2024, this is another set of short stories full of Atwood‘s mischievous humor and prescient insights. Loved it!

“Roughing it builds a boy‘s character, but only certain kinds of roughing it.”
Margaret Atwood, the author of The Handmaid's Tale, turns 84 today.
"Canadians are fond of a good disaster, especially if it has ice, water, or snow in it. You thought the national flag was about a leaf, didn't you? Look harder. It's where someone got axed in the snow."
Fantastic. Short stories are underrated.
Half my order from #BetterWorldBooks came today! The short stories are TBR; The Year of the Flood, I read my daughter‘s copy. Now I have my own for rereads! #bookmail #MargaretAtwood
I always love Margaret Atwood‘s short stories and this was no exception. It felt more down to earth than some of her others, more anchored in the real world in lives that felt very recognisably close by. Not my fave book of hers but I really loved it. She creates this quiet sense of menace in very normal situations so so so well, I really recommend it.
“The waitresses are basking in the sun like a herd of skinned seals, their pinky-brown bodies shining with oil.”
Interesting #openingline 🤣🙃 #Marchinbooks

Not my favorite Atwood, but I still enjoyed it. I liked how the tone and speed changed from story to story. How the story could be serious, but still make me laugh. Atwood continues to be my favorite author

I love a good #short story but they can be hard to find. This is one of my favourite collections. I love more recommendations.

I really enjoyed this short story collection. In true Atwood fashion all the stories really touched on different aspects, more often than not painful, of being a women.
@Tiffy_Reads I'm going to the post office right now to send this your way for #LMPBC, I'm so sorry for the delay!
Hey @Tiffy_Reads! I just realized I'm not going to be able to mail you my #LMPBC till Monday! My apologies for the delay - I'm going to Canada tomorrow through the weekend!
#ForReasonsUnknown I have still not finished a book this month. Maybe this wonderful short story collection for #LMPBC #N will be the first!

Took books in to donate (quite a few) to the used bookstore that benefits the local Senior Center. Discovered they've added another day (so it's now Th, F, Sat) to their weekly fill-a-bag sales, for $17+tax per bag 😳. This is what I brought home 🙈. I'm excited that I found the two Pyms in the same cover editions of what I already have of hers!
Margaret Atwood writes a brilliant #unreliablenarrator, there's always a sense they might be deceiving you. And Group Portrait had so many narrators that contradict themselves and each other that Böll has really raised the genre to an art form #maybookflowers

Had this signed at the inaugural Humber College Writer's Workshop where she was one of the faculty.
Ooh, this is a smart collection. Margaret Atwood at her most acerbic uses (mostly) female narrators to skewer ambition, insecurity, and identity, the masks that people wear and what happens when they slip. My favourites were The Age of Lead, Weight and Wilderness Tips.
My oldest boy picked these for me while we waited for the bus this morning. It's the little things. ❤️
One of the best books I've ever read by one of my favorite authors. I rarely like short stories but this book changed my mind. If you only read Hairball it's worth the purchase. Really a wonderfully collection and all the main characters a strong alpha women.
