I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Rainbow Rowell at PLA this week! 🥰 She gave a talk and then signed books, and she was absolutely amazing! Very kind and down to earth, and absolutely hilarious! Now I know how she writes such funny dialogue in all her books! 🤭💕📚
#Two4Tuesday
1. No particular plans but if I had to guess, I imagine we‘ll find ourselves on the couch watching tv. 😬😂
2. The tagged book is filled with friendship, romance, and lots of magic which makes it a great read for Valentine‘s Day.
@TheSpineView
I think it might be my forth reread of this one. But I can't help it! it's so funny, clever and sweet. I keep coming back :)
Going to start listening to this tomorrow morning on my way to work. I've never read a Rainbow Rowell book and I'm looking forward to it.
I think this book was inspired by Harry Potter...with the magic school, Chosen One and a supervillain. But that is where the similarities end. It was still a very good read though!
Nothing is holding my interest after Book of Night, so I decided to reread an old favorite. But since I never got to the sequels, this might just work out.
#weirderthanexpected but in such a good way! I was slow to start this one because I felt lost at first, but I‘m so glad I stuck with it! I loved the Harry Potter vibes but it definitely had its own voice. Another great one for #auldlangspine #booked2023#serieslove2023
⭐️⭐️⭐️
I wanted to love this one. I liked it well enough, but I feel no need to read any further in the series. It was clever and the audio was good. It just wasn't great. My daughter loved it.

Light, easy, entertaining. Lots of cliches, the writing style definitely felt a bit young (but then again, so is the target audience). A mix of Harry Potter, Twilight, and other magic and fantasy worlds. I probably wouldn't do a re-read but I'm glad I experienced it once!
Time to begin this. I've heard it's a quick read which I hope is true because I need to return it to the library very soon!
Rainbow Rowell writes in her author‘s note of wanting to try her own version of a “chosen one” fantasy. This to me definitely felt like it was made of bits of Harry Potter and Twilight, but with song lyrics and nursery rhymes as spells and more humor.
I liked it more than I expected to, and appreciate that though it‘s first in a trilogy, it works as a stand alone.
It‘s my Sept #doublespin.

I‘ve read a lot of great books this summer! The tagged is my favorite from June.
Bring on autumn! 🍂🍁🎃
Here‘s a couple pictures from Hawaii! Volcano erupting and a shark underwater.

📚 Carry On, Cemetery Boys, and the Charm Offensive (don't make me pick one 😅)
🖊️ Agatha Christie, Mike Chen
🎬 Catch Me If You Can, Castaway (basically give me Tom Hanks and I'll be happy)
🎤 The Cranberries
🎶 Come Go With Me by the Del-Vikings

This was the best fantasy book I‘ve read this year. Rowell was perfect with the twists. She made sure that you never knew who it was, and when you did, the book told you a chapter later. I just loved this so much. 5🌟
~side note~ Does anyone know why the titles of this series all relate to Bohemian Rhapsody? I know Wayward Son isn‘t a lyric but it describes the plot. I‘m severely confused and am scared to Google it out of fear of spoilers.

I went with Carry On by Rainbow Rowell as I really enjoyed the series
@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
My favorite read of June was the tagged book! I read some decent books this month, but this was the only one I have 5 stars to!
However, it doesn‘t quite beat Sea of Tranquility, because I‘m still thinking about that one.
As you can kind of see, my reading is all over the place and it‘s hard to compare some books!
This book was a lot of fun! I listened to it on audio and it was great. This is only the 2nd or 3rd book by Rainbow Rowell that I‘ve read.
I needed a fun, light fantasy, so I picked this up. I really liked Simon and Baz‘s story. I really like Penelope too. Love all the magical creatures and adventures.
I immediately picked up the next book on audio after I finished this one!
Not my favourite. I don‘t think I can do wizards… really I kind of signed on when I learned there are vampires, but it wasn‘t enough. I think it was supposed to be tongue in cheek? But often times it was cringeworthy. And never mind hearing about all the kidnappings, battles, and terrifying moments… after the fact, but never experiencing them firsthand. I hate that. So sorry, Simon and Baz, I will not carry on to the next one.
⭐️⭐️
So I thought I should see what this whole Simon Snow thing is all about. 😉 Next audiobook, and taking the dog for a walk! #currentlylistening
A breath of fresh air! Loved this take on magic. With a main villain named the Humdrum and a class of grumpy creatures called Numpties, how can you go wrong? What a great book.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved this book! It was fun and charming and romantic and adventurous. I love Baz and Simon! I love how smoothly the story played out. I thought the Chosen One tropes were written very well. I had a blast reading this! Should I read the second one? Is it as good as this one? Please let me know! Also this book fits the #almostachunksterchallenge at 517 pages 😆
This books is so hyped that I had high expectations. I enjoyed it but I found that the story and characters have so many similar elements with Harry Potter, so I don‘t know what to say about the uniqueness of the story. One difference is that characters here are young adults, 17 and 18 years old but they share a lot of similarities with HP. There is a YA m-m romance which I found it so cute. Nevertheless, I will continue with the series. 3.5⭐️
What a fantastic read — even without reading Fangirl, this was great fun, but a real study of the cost of power and finding yourself. Simon is open and empathetic as a character and I got sucked into the story right away. All the characterization is marvellous, and the consistently switching points of view just added to the depth of the story rather than being distracting. Highly recommend for a refreshing read. (I read the Kindle edition.)
Mittens is "helping" me with my #bookjournal today. A spread I've been meaning to start and finish for SO long is almost done. I'll post the finished product later.

4⭐
I came into this book all thanks to Fangirl. The small hints and opening chapters in that one book intrigued me to know what it was about Simon Snow that had Cather writing for hours and ignoring everything.
She gave me a great Chosen One story that had adventure and magic, but it had great dialogue, which I loved the best! It feels familiar but not, new and yet old. This was a story worthy of Cather writing fanfics of.
I just couldn't. It was a bad Harry Potter ripoff as a plot point in Fangirl and there's no way it it could stand on its own legs. Got 20 pages in and gave up. They want the plot to be as sophisticated as teens are but the names of places and professors are something I'd expect for young children.
I couldn‘t find this short story in the Litsy database but I really enjoyed this quick holiday read/listen. It highlights 2 Christmases during Covid - 2020 and 2021 - and I found it very relatable. The anxiety, paranoia, and frustration of being a person taking Covid seriously while others around you aren‘t is definitely something I‘ve dealt with and I liked that the 2 main characters were able to relate to each other within the chaos. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I‘ve decided to quit bouncing between new-to-me books and just reread CARRY ON. This is at least 80% because I miss Baz. It‘s an understatement to say Baz has Preferred status on my Queer Assholes List. He‘s SO FRICKIN GREAT.
Also frickin great: the potato fritters I made for breakfast. I used leftover Popeye‘s mashed potatoes with the gravy mixed in and it took them to the next level.
I typically just do work related books on audio, since I can‘t seem to focus on novels and the like when In that format. However, since this was short story I thought I would give it a go. This was also my first taste of this author and I know that a lot of people recommend their works. I enjoyed this listen and will be reading more this author for sure.
“Carry on, Simon”
this is not my first time reading this book and definitely not my last. everytime I read it I discover new things and fall in love with the characters all over again. if you‘re looking for a magical adventure with a feel good romance and a fan-favorite vampire, Carry On is for you.
I have to admit the first book was boring (the novel is divided into four sections called “books”) but I read a comment that said it really picked up after Baz comes back. And that is completely 💯 true. I‘m also totally in love with the audiobook narrator and must now listen to everything he‘s ever made.
My beautiful, wonderful, '2 person book club member', best friend @charityblee gave me this adorable Simon & Baz shirt for my birthday.
I will always recommend this series. I will always love these characters. They have a beautiful love story.

It's the perfect weather today to try out my new hammock! Such a cozy new reading spot for autumn 😊
Of course I'm comfort rereading an old favorite instead of one the many library books that are due back soon 😂
3.75? When I first started this book, I didn't really know what to expect. I just knew that a friend of mine loved it. My initial thought was, "Oh, this is a parody of Harry Potter and other 'chosen one' YA." Then I wondered if it was done intentionally or just derivative. And then...I simply didn't care because I was having too much fun. This was a fun, guilty pleasure book that left me feeling mushy and happy, and really, isn't that enough?
#WondrousWednesday @Eggs
1. Lately I‘m just a little better than 50/50😂
2. So many series… Wayfarers, Simon Snow, Grishaverse are the first to come to mind.
3. I love when a collection of very different types form a sort of family
4. Today I‘m grateful for my family, students, walks, books, and Litsy of course!
A re-read so I can get to the third book in the series. I love this one so much but the second one not so much. Hoping the third is really good. Also 3rd book read for #AwesomeAugust.
