Down to the Woods: DI Helen Grace 8 | M. J. Arlidge
25 posts | 11 read | 19 to read
THE EIGHTH DI HELEN GRACE THRILLER BY BESTSELLING AUTHOR M. J. ARLIDGE There is a sickness in the forest. First, it was the wild horses. Now it's innocent men and women, hunted down and murdered by a faceless figure. Lost in the darkness, they try to flee, they try to hide. In desperation, they call out for help. But there is no-one to hear their cries here... DI Helen Grace must face down a new nightmare. The arrow-ridden victims hang from the New Forest's ancient oaks, like pieces of strange fruit. Why are helpless holidaymakers being targeted in peak camping season? And what do their murders signify? Is a psychopath stalking the forest? Is there an occult element to the killings? Could the murders even be an offering to the Forest itself? Helen must walk into the darkness to discover the truth behind her most challenging, most macabre case yet. *** PRAISE FOR M.J. ARLIDGE: 'Helen Grace is one of the greatest heroes to come along in years' JEFFERY DEAVER 'The new Jo Nesbo' JUDY FINNIGAN 'Fast paced and nailbitingly tense ... gripping' SUN 'DI Helen Grace is a genuinely fresh heroine ... MJ Arlidge weaves together a tapestry that chills to the bone'Daily Mail 'Chilling stuff' Fabulist 'A chilling read' My Weekly 'A grisly, gripping thriller' Sunday Mirror 'Gruesomely realistic, intriguing and relentless. Arlidge's fledgling army of fans is about to grow' Sunday Sport 'Eeny Meeny debuts one of the best new series detectives, Helen Grace. Determined, tough and damaged, she must unravel a terrifying riddle of a killer kidnapping victims in pairs. Mesmerizing!' Lisa Gardner 'Expertly pulled off. It has a devious premise. DI Helen Grace is fiendishly awesome. It's scary as all hell. And it has a full cast of realistically drawn, interesting characters that make the thing read like a bullet' Will Lavender

Book 8 in the Helen Grace series and it didn't disappoint 😊 An action packed story as always, I just love Helen. I'm still not sure if I trust Hudson 🤔 Up to date with the series and ready for All Fall Down in June.

So for the last 2 years - to the day - I‘ve been spending my morning time reading on the couch rather than turning on the news. It has done my sanity good. But I really need to do a better job picking those books because at a certain point I have to put it down and sign on to work. Helen Grace (Cate Blanchett) made that ENORMOUSLY difficult this morning.

Ashley_Nicoletto I read or workout every morning before work. Without a single ounce of news and I try for no social media either. Gotta take care of your own mental space. 6y
MicheleinPhilly @Ashley_Nicoletto I try for no news at all but I do check my personal email and sometimes have breaking news alerts. I am guilty of sometimes falling down the Litsy rabbit hole but I have really been limiting my IG and FB time overall. 6y
eanderson Ooo Cate Blanchett for Helen Grace... Perfect casting choice! Enjoy! 6y

MicheleinPhilly @eanderson She is who I have been picturing since book 1. @TrishB approves too. Welcome to the club! You can hang out in my trailer when I get a producer‘s credit on the tv series (last sentence is entirely fantasy.) ☺️ 6y
saresmoore Teach me your ways, Wise One! News-free mornings sound like bliss, but the temptation is so great. Does your wife join in this practice? 6y
MicheleinPhilly @saresmoore No, she‘s usually in the batcave watching GMA. Or still sleeping. 6y
saresmoore Well, that‘s helpful. The husband usually interrupts my reading bliss with a headline every two pages or so. 6y
MicheleinPhilly @saresmoore Oh she knows my “reading bitch face” INTIMATELY. 6y
TrishB @eanderson I totally picture Cate on that bike! 6y
eanderson @MicheleinPhilly 😂 I like it! @TrishB yes!!! 100% I definitely agree! She‘s perfect. 6y

In a little tiny reading slump. Hoping Helen Grace pulls me out of it. 😕Besides my History of the Hobbit, I‘ve struggled reading over the past several days. MJ Arlidge usually can help me out of a lull.

Lel2403 I really enjoyed this, an easy but engaging read 6y

The story itself hops from graphic fear and murder mystery to police procedural with strong women characters effortlessly and is an easy, yet heart thumping read. I liked that the identity of the killer is kept unknown until near the end and it really does keep you guessing. I will now be reading more of the series.

thanks to the Author/the Publishers/NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a fair and honest review

“Once more, Hudson felt the anger rising within him. And once more he tried to swallow it down. He had to get a grip on it. It was affecting his work, his judgement, and if he wasn‘t careful it would consume him. As it had done before.”........this is heating up now.....

“Peering into the void, Lauren gasped in confusion and horror. This hunter did not have a human face. She could make out no features at all, apart from two huge, lamp-like eyes. ‘Please, no . . .‘”.......so scary at times and a real intriguing whodunnit....loving it.

TrishB A great read and a great series 👍🏻 6y

“He breathed the words, hoping they would soothe his pounding heart. But fear was assailing him, making his limbs shake and his brain ache. There had to be a way out of here. There had to be a way .”.......

I‘m hooked already...a good creepy read so far, plus a detective story too..

Cathythoughts Sounds really good 👍🏻 6y

“Panicking, he flicked his gaze between the two paths. He was suddenly gripped by indecision, aware how costly the wrong choice would be. He didn‘t know why he was being hunted, which way he should go, nor what kind of agonies lay in store for him. All he did know was that death was stalking him tonight.”....so far so good and set in the UK

Starting my scary/horror/gothic reads for October. Thought I'd start with more of a psychological thriller and work my way up to full out ghost stories toward the end of the month! Anyone read this?

Another brilliant offering by M J Arlidge following the exploits of Helen and her team as they search for a killer. These books get better and better as you get to know the team and you see their friendships and support for one another grow through the course of the books.
