My favorite of the series. Harry Hole continues his suspicions of Tom Waaler but they are required to work with one another on a new serial killer case. The story is great. In the past I have found this series to be a little confusing, but this book was perfect. I understood what was going on so that made me happy. I‘m ready to move on to the next book in the series.

I left it too long between book 4 and this one. There‘s a lot of backstory that I‘ve forgotten that would have been helpful. Regardless, this is still a solid work of Nordic Noir and Nesbo continues to be one of my favorite authors in this genre. There‘s plenty of tension, a complex plot, great baddies, murders that are not too graphic or twisted (well…mostly not too horrid), and a satisfying conclusion.

Starting off the #20in4 readathon with Jo Nesbø. I'm about 40% into it so far. I struggled in the beginning because the names were hard for me to follow on audio. But I think I've got them sorted now and am really enjoying the story. I'm hoping to finish this one today.

This is the strongest book in the Harry Hole series so far (this is Book 5). I have enjoyed them all but this was more fast-paced than the others! A strong plot, and we dive further into what makes Harry tick. Some very tense moments and a satisfying ending, especially if you have read the previous books. 4 ââââ

1. No, I don't go back and reread before going to the next book.
2. I am in the middle of many series and in some, waiting for the next release.

I loved this complex thriller, another excellent book set in the gritty world of Harry Hole. It‘s a good thing it‘s winter break, as this series has become quite addicting!

Harry starts this book at rock bottom, and much of the tale includes the battle with his own internal demons as he works on what he suspects may be his last case.

Also, this is my 💯 read of 2018! 🎉🎉🎉

Just got home from taking my middle sis to the airport after a wonderful visit with her (except for last night‘s news about younger sis going in to the hospital). Polar Express is on the TV and I‘m hoping for 2 hours of quiet reading time, I need the downtime after a late night out seeing the Nutcracker ballet!

A Happy Yule to all who celebrate! #yule #currentlyreading

Avanders That tree face... ornament? Is amazing. 😠6y
alisiakae @Avanders It‘s actually a wall plaque that I put on our buffet table/sideboard (I think that is what that piece of furniture is called!) that I decorate seasonally. It‘s currently decorated for Yule and Chanukah. The plaque is of the Winter Greenman, which many believe to also be the inspiration behind Father Christmas. 6y

I was very excited for my first Job Nesbo's but I didn't like the book very much. The book is good paced and you keep on turning the pages. All throughout the book I kept on thinking that this is just the buildup and there will be an amazing end to it but to my dissapointment the ending wasn't thaaat great. But still it's good for a one time reading spree. But yes, I'm still excited to read 'The snowman' by the same writer.

3.9/5🌟

Zelma I hate the tag on the book. Nesbo has been around for awhile; 🙄 at the next Stieg Larsson comparison. (edited) 6y
IndianBookworm @Zelma You are absolutely correct. Why can't he just be the first Jo Nesbo. This comparison is just absurd. 😑 6y
Buechersuechtling Oh, “The Snowman†was my first – and so far – only Nesbø. I really liked it and decided to read more by this author. I liked it for Harry Hole and his life/relationships. I don‘t remember much of the actual case … If you like that kind of crime novels, maybe you also like “The Snowmanâ€. (Which is not the first one in the series: https://bit.ly/2FRpFWZ) 5y

Yesterday was at grocery store and I saw that all Nesbo's books are on sale. I couldn't resist and bought my first Nesbo book. Let's see why is he so special that everybody talk about him.

I‘ve really enjoyed this series so far but this one is my favorite (so far). It‘s nice to see #JoNesbo start to get into #HarryHole‘s psyche and see why he‘s a miserable alcoholic. I‘m taking a break from the series to get through some other books and can‘t wait to get back to Harry. #nordicnoir #norway

Jo Nesbø is one of my newest obsessions. I told myself I wouldn‘t listen to anymore books added in 2017, but I can‘t help myself when it comes to Harry Hole.

I've been looking for an entry point to this series, and volume five is currently on sale. Can any #HarryHole fans weigh in?

2BR02B Sidenote: I am incapable of saying "Harry Hole" without tittering. #adolescenthumor 7y
britt_brooke @2BR02B I‘m with you. 😆 7y
Reggie Start with the Redbreast. 7y
Reggie Most of his books will deal with characters that come out of this book. It‘s actually #3 in the series but the first 1 is kinda pretty bad and the second one is just ok. They were weird only because they don‘t take place in Norway. Anyways, start with the Redbreast. 7y
2BR02B Cool. I'll have to nab that one from the library. Thanks, @Reggie ! 7y

Entertaining and thrilling, perfect conclusion to the Tom Waaler and Harry Hole rivalry spanning three books. Harry has to work under Waaler to catch a serial killer who has a fascination with pentagrams. Lots of tension between the two characters. 8/10

I actually dig Harry Hole, the alcoholic, detective but I feel I'm doing that annoying reader thing where I complain about Jo Nesbo but can't stop reading his books. Me doth thinks he protests too much. Indeed. Jo likes to throw out all these red herring tangents that frustrate me so much, yet have me on the hook. Harry investigate's a string of murders where fingers get cut and pentagrams appear. The Ellem arc is resolved, or is it? Good stuff.

CouronneDhiver You've forgiven dear Nesbo, have you? 😂 7y
Reggie Coincidentally, the next day I went to Panda Express and when I cracked open my fortune cookie....... there was no fortune, it was empty. So I cannot go around blaming Jo Nesbo for being a conduit of fate or whoever out there is trying to send me a message. Lol @CouronneDhiver 7y

So #slaythatseries didn't work out as well as I'd hoped. An unscheduled nap yesterday & a planned event that took up most of today limited my progress 😕

However, finishing Nemesis did get me to Mt. Kilimanjaro for #MountTBR 🙌ðŸ»ðŸ™ŒðŸ»

And with The Devil's Star, my next aim is El Tor.

I'll be working on Harry Hole for the rest of the month. And maybe next weekend will be my own #slaythatseriesreadathon 😉

DGRachel Sounds like progress to me! 7y
Sweettartlaura @DGRachel You'd think so... But there are still a LOT of unread books in my house 😱. I foresee this as a running challenge for another year (or more?😬) 7y
DGRachel I think my unread TBR will outlive me. 😂 7y

I'm between a 4.5 & 5 for this one. I just LOVE Harry Hole!!! There is something so endearing about this broken detective. The stories Jo Nesbø writes are so complex and leave you wanting to read more. This crime was specifically gruesome and the trouble between Harry and his colleague added to the complexity of this story making it more addictive. Definitely recommend this series!
