Gold: A Novel | 
pickThis was one of my #bookspinbinanza books. Although technically #7, I read it first because it was my book club book. I gave the book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. It was a fantastic, but intense story about athletes training to compete in the Olympic Games while their daughter battles leukemia. I read it quickly, but could only read so much at a time before having to put it down for a little while. A great book!
Already enjoying this one...not sure I would have picked it up without a nudge from What Should I Read Next.

pickHad a bit of a slow start, but the back half of this book really picked up and I enjoyed this. I thought this book was going to focus more on a sick child, but really this book is about female friendship and the price you pay when competing as an elite athlete.
This may be a cheat since the cover is more yellow than gold, but the title ensures there is #GoldontheCover I remember liking this book, and I may reread it before this year‘s Olympics. #AuldLangReads
pickI actually finished this a week ago and wasn't sure how to review it. I loved Cleave's other book, Little Bee, so much that this one was a bit overshadowed. But I have found myself thinking of the characters over this past week so I've decided I liked it.
See just #HowFarIllGo to win is something, Zoe, a professional cyclist training for the Olympics, warns her best friend and rival, Kate, each time they race.
This was my first Cleave and I loved, loved, loved that it was about elite sportswomen and the tough choices they sometimes have to make to be the best and stay at the top.

pickI enjoyed this book very much. A great portrayal of sports at the highest level and what it can do to a person. I also enjoyed learning more about competitive cycling!

pickThe trouble with a Chris Cleave book is that you can't put it down, they are so readable! I didn't think this book would be for me as I avoid sports at all costs but how wrong was I. This is more than a book on athletes, this is a book that has you on the edge, that makes you want to scream at the pages, that makes you cry and gives you hope. A must read.

For today's gold-themed prompt, I'm going with Chris Cleve's Gold. The gold here is olympic gold and a rivalry between two cyclists. I adore Cleve's writing and have read all of his novels.
Started listening to Gold this morning while the sun rose over Kansas on our mini road trip. The narrator is fabulous and so far, I'm hooked into the story as well.
so-soWas disappointed in this book. I loved Everyone Brave is Forgiven and hoped I would like this one as much. I don't want to pan it but I don't want to recommend it either.
pickFinished this one on the weekend! The first reviews I saw about it were so negative, therefore I was thinking I wasn't going to like it. Oh, was my mind wrong! I mean, I do agree that at times these primary characters felt a bit off, but it isn't up until the end (almost) that you get to fully understand why they are the way they are. It also amazed me how, barely noticeable, dots began to connect!
Went out for a coffee run and, when I got home, the light came back!

pickI love the Olympics and after London 2012, I read this book about competitive indoor cyclists. It has been on my mind this week as indoor cycling is happening during the Rio 2016 Games. Gold introduced me to an unfamiliar sport. May read this again!
Yesterday I said that if our 🇵🇷 Monica Puig 🇵🇷 won gold, the first Olimpic gold medal for Puerto Rico, I would do the same in the #bookisholympics . @TheSpinecrackersBookClub , get ready, I'm going for it. 🏅
pickTHIS BOOK WAS AMAZING! Wonderful story and wonderful characters. I read this right as the 2012 Olympics were happening and as this is about about the Olympics made it a great choice.

Just found this one and realized I haven't read it yet. Loved his others so should be good.
pickOnly a supremely talented author can make bike racing so fascinating. Ultimately this is a book about friendship, marriage, illness, family, and dedication. It wasn't as poetic as Everyone Brave Is Forgiven but it is still a gem of a book.
"Off the bike she was like a smoker without cigarettes, never sure what to do with her hands. As soon as she got off the bike, her heart was expected to perform these baffling secondary functions - like loving someone and feeling something and belonging somewhere...."
