This is my favorite of Alexander's books so far. He took my favorite character from The Crossover and made this prequel entirely about him. The beginning was heartbreaking, as were several sections in the middle, but the ending made the pain worthwhile.
pickWow! This book was better than what I heard. It was better than the first book for sure. This book was full of action on the court and off the court. It‘s about a boy who goes to his grandparents house for the summer and hangs out with his cousin who gets him way better at basketball. I would rate this book a 9/10
pickRebound is the prequel to Crossover and is the story of the dad when he was a teenager. Chuck's dad has recently died so Chuck and his mom are having to navigate their new normal. He spend the summer in Virginia near DC at his grandparents. Like many of us, he makes a poor choice and has to deal with the consequences along with figuring out who he is and discovering his strengths and interests. This narrative poetry novel is on par with Crossover.
pickSO GOOD! love this prequel to the Crossover. 2019 Bluebonnet Nominee, #24/55 books read. Stepping up my reading game this summer and hopefully will read more than 55!
pickFinally finishing a book! I‘ve started 4 and none were holding my attention, but Rebound solved that. I love Alexander‘s books that perfectly blends a coming-of age story and sports.

pickLoved this book! I could have finished in one sitting but I wanted it to last. Didn‘t last long.
There is so much to love! The language is beautiful; the characters, lovable. The inclusion of the graphic novel pages is wonderful; the 80s references, not overbearing.
Please read The Crossover first, you‘ll get so much more out of this one if you do.

I had a library copy in my hands just fifteen minutes ago! I so wanted to bee line to the checkout and not pass go!!! Instead....I did the responsible thing and let the staff know of their mistake. I relinquished the copy I was holding 😢 and the librarian snagged the other copy off the new arrivals shelf. Six more days. I can wait six more days 😔
Ready for me to sound like a really bad American, on Tuesday I voted for a guy just because his name was Kwame Alexander. It was for a village post or something like that. No idea if he won.
