I am tired to the bone after a week of hard and exhausting adulting things, so my reading has slowed. I can‘t imagine I will get to 20 hours, but it will be good motivation to catch up on some reading, including the tagged book. #20in4

Loved this story about Sam, 15, and her younger sister, Ollie, 10, who live with their father, Bear, in a teepee in Oregon. When the girls find a dead body floating in Crooked River, their world starts to unravel. This is a beautiful novel about family and grief. There‘s a mystery and ghosts and bees. Just a great read all around. Full review here: https://theludicreader.com/2021/01/31/crooked-river-valerie-geary/
#BookNDinner! Accompaniment this wet and chilly night: my stir fry of green beans, carrots, and bella mushrooms, sautéed in olive oil and spices; leafy greens; English cucumber; black olives; mozzarella@ balls; grilled beer bratwurst; and parmesan cheese; with sparkling lime water. MMMmmmm ?! This has been another presentation of: #MrBookKitchen. Happy reads & happy eats! ???

This was such a lovely, richly told story by the very talented @valeriegeary The sense of time and place was just perfect, and I felt deeply for the sisters, Sam and Ollie, as well as their recluse father, Bear. And bonus - I didn‘t see the ending coming, which had me flipping pages quickly and even shedding a tear at the very end. A book with heart and soul, and a few 🐝 and 👻 ❤️
I don't do a lot of self promotion on Litsy because I come here to read and talk about books with all of you kind readers. I usually save the self promo for Instagram! 😆 But @JennyM picked up a copy of my first book to read this week which reminded me that it's on sale right now for super cheap and I thought it might be something I should tell you about. 🤷🏼♀️🙌 🤗
For this week‘s #bookreport, I read & enjoyed 3 books, particularly The Man Who Saw Everything. I also finished Girl, Woman, Other on audio, which was fantastic and definitely a winner for me.
My #weeklyforecast is a little quieter, as I have a busy week work-wise. But I‘m really excited to be reading Crooked River by our very own @valeriegeary . Then it‘s the Ishiguro rolling over from last week & The Confession for my commute 🎧
So excited to read Valerie Gearys books.Rave reviews everywhere and added bonus the author signed both books. They will have a special place on my book shelves,
I Loved this book. A story of loss and mystery with a paranormal twist.

TODAY‘S PROMPT: RIVER
“CROOKED RIVER just had a homey feel to it along with a storyline that had situations that could actually happen and a very suspenseful, tense ending.”

This book was a lot of things, party mystery, part ghost story , part coming of age & part family saga. I found the writing and pacing enjoyable and was drawn to Sam, Ollie & Bear. Perfect read for the beach where I was able to drift away to a small town and get lost in the story.
#marchintoOz Plenty of #sunshine today 🌞🌞🌞🌞but had to move away from the pool...the ladies were yapping sooo loudly I couldn‘t concentrate on this wonderful coming of age story @valeriegeary 🙌🏻
#PoolsideReading Today‘s stack...finished the O‘Farrell (review to follow)
A murder mystery|thriller that centers on family crisis + coming of age around it's plot. The story is narrated between sisters Ollie + Sam. I enjoyed how it reads like a southern goth novel (including ghostly spirits flickering about that only Ollie can see.) Such an intriguing story, I had a hard time putting this one down. 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Afternoon errand of #tbr library holds 😍
The story of 2 sisters, Sam & Ollie, who've just moved-in with their estranged father after their mother's death. He lives off-the-grid, in a meadow, keeping bees & sleeping under the stars. Everything is sad but briefly beautiful until the girls discover a dead body & their father is (wrongfully, they believe) accused. Geary creates a strong sense of place. Her description of nature is lovely but her characters' voices need work. Also: ghosts! 👻
"Bear says that in September the light in the meadow softens and the air turns crisp and tart. The days get shorter. The flowers die. Life is loss & nothing lasts. The leaves change green to red to yellow and dance off the trees like tiny ballerinas, and sometimes you wake to silver frost on the ground and your breath forming white clouds. "It's a different kind of beautiful," he tells us. "You'll see." (cont.??)
Update: I've been reading this book forever. I don't know why... but I haven't been in a reading mood lately (blasphemy?!).
Now, I'm reading it on my break in the Room of Ugly Couches & Ugly Cat Art.

My favorite: The Hunting Gun

Overall, I really enjoyed this appropriately eclectic collection!

The Falcons are going to the Super Bowl, hanging with #Bitsy and now we're starting Crooked River by @valeriegeary - perfect Sunday
You guys, this book! 😍
It's a fascinating journey, through the minds of sharp-witted, courageous Sam & poetic, contemplative Ollie. These sisters have a rich and complex relationship to match this enthralling story.
The cadence of Geary's writing is effortless and almost mesmerizing. I was absorbed in the story, lulled by the setting and characters, but perpetually surprised. She kept me guessing, wondering until the very end. I loved it.
I'm only 33 pages in and already I'm thoroughly enjoying this book. @valeriegeary has some incredible storytelling talent. Nothing is predictable, the main characters are nuanced and fascinating, and I WANT TO KNOW THE SECRETS! Sorry, kids, I'll be mostly ignoring you for the rest of the day.
Look at this little souvenir bookmark my momma brought me from Jekyll Island, GA! My girlfriends and I danced our butts off to Sir Mix-a-Lot at my wedding, so she thought this stamped bent spoon would speak directly to my strange little heart. She was right. 😊
I'm finishing up Mother Night by Vonnegut, so this book should be a nice change of pace as my next fiction choice.
Holy books, Batman! Four people in our little family, so this seems like a totally appropriate amount of books for Christmas, right? Here's a #bookchristmastree to last us well into the new year. 📚🎄

There is only one book I have way too many copies of...my own! Hardcover, paperback and some foreign editions. What can I say? I love my book. 😄 #seasonsgreetings2016 #multiplecopies #authorsonlitsy

I had coffee with author Valerie Geary earlier this year. I am excited about all the success her debut novel has had!
