“Chrysanthemum did not think her name was absolutely perfect. She knew it!“
I think this is a great book. It has beautiful colorful illustrations that show great emotion. This book would send a powerful message to students about thinking before we speak, and how making fun of someone's name can make them feel.
This reminds me of what it was like when a substitute teacher said your name wrong, the entire class would laugh. This can be very hurtful to a young child as our names are a big part of who we are. This book does a great job of explaining that feeling.
I may use this in the beginning of the year so the kids can tell everyone about their name and what it means

ALA Award Winner. This book is about a young mouse who's name is Chrysanthemum. She loves her name at first, until she goes to school. The kids in her class tease her every day and make her feel horrible for being named after a flower. She wishes she could change her name so much to something “normal“. One day she meets the new music teacher, who is also named after a flower. The children are stunned by this and they all learn to love her name.
This book is about a young mouse and her name is Chrysanthemum she is named after a beautiful flower. She loves her sweet name her parents gave her until one day her classmates start teasing and making fun of her name. They think it is silly to be named after a flower but in the end she learns just how special her name really is.
This book is a great book to read to teach students to have confidence within themselves. It shows students that everyone is different and they should be proud of who they are no matter what.
Chrysanthemum is written and illustrated by Kevin Henkes. This story is about a little mouse with a big name. As the mouse starts school she is then bullied by the other mice because of her unique name. Her parents try to explain that the uniqueness of her name is beautiful, but that does not heal her hurting heart. One day, the best music teacher intervenes and says her name is the prettiest name she's ever heard! Suddenly everyone who made fun
And when she was old enough to appreciate it, chrysanthemum loved her name. She loved the way it sounded when her mother woke her up.
This picture book was my all time favorite in elementary school! I‘ve even gotten to share it with my PDS placements. Chrysanthemum is a funny, school story about self-esteem and acceptance. I found it relatable as I have a very different name and felt embarrassed growing up. This helped me learn to celebrate myself and uniqueness.
Thanks for the tag @Pageturner1

This fiction picture book meant a lot to me when I first learned how to write my name. I was always the last to finish my name in Kindergarten and felt so bad about it often that my name wasn‘t like others. My kindergarten teacher Ms. Powell read this one day to me in our reading center and I loved it ever since💕 It‘s about a little mouse who too has a long name and learns to love it it‘s uniquess
another little tidbit from Chrysanthemum that I relate to 💕 going through all the children's books I got from the library. this was one I just LOVED!
The dad is most definitely me 😂😂
“Chrysanthemum” by Kevin Henkes is a sad, but fulfilling F story about a young mouse named Chrysanthemum who absolutely loves her beautiful, long name! She begins to get made fun of by a few of her classmates which results in her despising her name. This Notable Children‘s Award winning book would make a great RA to teach good morals. #UCFLAE3414F19
The genre of this book is RF. We read this book the first week of school because it shows how behavior expectations should be. Chrysanthemum has a long name and is teased for it but read to find out how the teasing stopped. This book is a great S for the first week of school.
Chrysanthemum is a MF by Kevin Henkes. The book follows her on her first day of school. She thinks everything is going to be perfect until the other students start making fun of her. The book honestly looks at teasing, self-esteem and acceptance. It could be used for a PR. #ucflae3414su19
Chrysanthemum is a cute little story (F) about a little mouse named Chrysanthemum. Chrysanthemum absolutely loves her name until she goes to school and is made fun of because her name is too long! 1) Homemade chicken based soup, sweets, and junk food.
2) My mom always read me Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes.
3) laying in bed watching TV and doing nothing...honestly pretty much the same. I just wish I had someone to make me homemade soup & buy me goodies like when I was a kid.

Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes is about students making fun of Chrysanthemum for her 13-letter name. In the end she was able to learn to love her name and it makes her who she is. Which is true for all students. Your name is what makes you who you are. #ucflae3414f17
Chrysanthemum written and illustrated by Kevin Henkes is a F ALA Noteable Book award winner and would make a great AS book. This would be a good author study book, because Kevin Henkes has written multiple books that children enjoy. This book teaches children about bullying and self acceptance. UDL Principle 2.5 (Illustrate through multiple media) would be good for this book because not only is it a picture book that can be displayed on a

I would have appreciated this book in elementary school! I have a unique, foreign first name that no one could ever pronounce during my school years. I always longed for a simple, stylish name like...Sandy! Being unique and original is beautiful! #kidlit #picturebook
