So on my birthday last week I decided to spontaneously book myself a solo trip to Norway! I‘ve never travelled on my own before. I always thought it‘d kinda happen one day but the stars never made it happen, so I just booked it. I‘m so so excited. The trip is at the end of April/start of May and I‘m having so much fun planning, attempting duolingo and finding Norwegian books.
This six-part novel has been on my TBR list for some time; it‘s been called one of the first great works of the 21st century. I was amazed that it sold a half-million copies in his native Norway, a country of only 5 million. I found this first volume to be a very fast read. Critics call it βauto fiction,β which is much closer to a memoir than most novels based on one‘s life. There is much controversy about it. I found that he renders(see comments)

It's not that I'm not enjoying it, but I assume everyone who reads this or the later volumes has moments of disbelief that there is still so much more left...
A kindle deal in the U.S.π€Read the series , loved it . This is the first of 6 volumes, so you know what you‘re getting into!ππ
#20Series20days #Top20Series I think I started reading these when vols.1&2 were in paperback here in the U.S.Knausgaard ruminates on everything , the extraordinary & the ordinary.Readers either fall in love with the series or don‘t see what the fuss is about. He has me early on speaking of how he will spend too much on music and books to the detriment of rent/food.As you can see , I couldn‘t wait for the last vol.to come out in paperback!
This popped up as an Instagram memory the other day and I couldn‘t resist sharing. She‘s bigger now and the books are smaller, generally.
My second read of this (yes I already read it once, but see I want to reread them before I tackle book six, which I have not read) had me enraptured.
Before I really liked it, but now... Wow. The sections I thought were dull beforeβI loved them this time! The game changer is that now I consider everything he writes in context of the scale of the whole series, and it makes the accomplishment so much more impressive. I‘m blown away really.
βThen I looked out the window. The sky above the hospital on the other side of the road was cloudless and blue. The low sun glistened on the panes, signs, railings, car hoods. The frozen breath rising from passersby on the pavement made them look as if they were on fire.β
Not sure why but I‘m really feeling this descriptive passage, as I‘m feeling this entire reread of volume one. I‘m definitely glad I‘m diving into this again....
Knausgaard's series is an introspective on his life and perhaps #humannature as well.

Oh dear..the beginning was so good. Then my struggle to be interested in his struggle became too much to bear. I don‘t often give up on a book but this one I must, at least for now. ππ
I have very mixed feelings about this book. I did enjoy parts, especially towards the end. But it was a slog of detail to get there. I finished it a few weeks ago and only now just got round to taking a picture for litsy. But the further I‘ve got from it, the more negative my feelings have become. So I don‘t think I will have the resilience to continue with the series
Ach KnausgΓ₯rd β₯οΈ

I'm officially a Knausgaard fan! I didn't think I needed this (because who ever needs a middle-aged western man reminiscing about his life?) but this first part of a six-part memoir has been a much appreciated companion this week. I was hooked a few pages in and haven't been able to put it down! Knausgaard talks about everything in (too) much detail but oh boy, is he readable. I'll be picking up Book Two soon for sure β‘
4.5/5β
I‘ve been finding this a bit heavy going. Only managing a few pages at a time, and finding my attention sliding away from the page as the minute descriptions of a Stockholm street (and everything else) fail to draw me in. But yesterday I finally had a breakthrough with about 100 pages read, including staying up late to carry on reading. I had planned on reading the whole series... but we shall see if I have the willpower!
TGIF. Haven't done one of these #FriyayIntro in ages π« @howjessreads
1. Teleport. I feel like too much mind reading would be overwhelming.

β’ My Struggle 1: A Death in the Family (2009) by Karl Ove Knausgaard
Time for some cozy reading time before bed. I'm finally jumping on the Knausgaard train and I'm π pretty π damn π excited π !
I don't know what to expect but I have a feeling I'm going to be a fan β‘
I‘ve waited so long to read this book. I‘m on page 56 and I know that now is the perfect time to jump into this. I purchased it years ago because, quite frankly, he looks like many of my previous boyfriends. π It turns out though that he thinks like me. I‘m wallowing in our similarities.
How many books is too many books for a trip? These three + my kobo + Karl Ove for 11 days in Peru and I‘ll have some time to myself - that‘s not too far fetched is it?
PERFECTTTTTT. So happy to be able to complete my collection & now have all 6 in hardcover. Big thanks to my mom (pictured here). βΊοΈππβ₯οΈ

I started this one yesterday. This is the first book I‘ve read by this author. I wasn‘t sure at first, but now I‘m really starting to like it.
Well, that's all I need: a middle-aged chap navel-gazing/reminiscing in minute detail and expectation of an audience! ? Except that it turns out I enjoyed it. The man can write. Admittedly I far preferred the more introspective parts to the bathroom-cleaning parts, but I warmed to Knausgaard's self-consciousness (which seems to be at the heart of his "struggle"). I will read more, but not just yet. I'm curious about his Seasons books, now, too.
A touching sad book with a realistic raw narrative. The first half is pretty slowl but it gets better. Though it brought me back sad memories, it is still worth reading. Feat.: πΆ @claryfofa #AMortedoPai #MyStruggle #KarlOveKnausgard

I wish I could have taken a literary science degree. Sounds...analytical. My university only offered the garden variety English Literature BA.
Yay. My parents‘ neighbour finally shutdown his outdoor hot tub movie theatre. I can read without hearing shitty dialogue in the background.

My summer project. Anyone else read this? I would appreciate any feedbackβthanks, all! πππ
This is what all I picked up at the used bookstore today. Fill a bag for $17, but My Struggle Book 1 was specially priced at $4, so total was $21 plus tax. Not bad!
Some are #1001Books. The Wolitzer is #blameitonReggie π. I read The Bonfire of Vanities way back when, and wanted to re-read (someday).
#music #riotgrams I couldn‘t decide so I‘m posting both.In Karl‘s books, whenever he gets a little coin or the notion, he goes out and buys books or music,it always made me smile as I was reading, sounds familiar.π
High Fidelity charms me as a book or as a movie, one of the rare occasions I love both.Record store owner Rob analyzed his failed relationships through the lens of his musical obsessions.βWhat came first, the music or the misery?β
