Road Trip
Road Trip: A Pocket History of Indiana | Andrea Neal
3 posts | 1 read
The bicentennial of Indianas statehood in 2016 is the perfect time for Hoosiers of all stripes to hit the road and visit sites that speak to the nineteenth states character. In her book, Andrea Neal has selected the top 100 events/historical figures in Indiana history, some well-known like George Rogers Clark, and others obscured by time or memory such as the visit of Marquis de Lafayette to southern Indiana. These highly readable essays and photographs that accompany them feature a tourist site or landmark that in some way brings the subject to life. This will enable interested Hoosiers to travel the entire state to experience history at firsthand. Related activities and sites include nature hikes, museums, markers, monuments, and memorials. The sites appear in chronological order, beginning with the impact of the Ice Age on Indiana and ending with the legacy of the bicentennial itself.

Day 19 - #RoadTrip #BoundTogetherJune

How true is that?

Riveted_Reader_Melissa 💙 my kindle has really saved my suitcases! 😂 4y
EadieB @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Ain't that the truth! 4y
Mrs_B Is it just me that packs books just in case my kindle dies? 🙈 4y

EadieB @Mrs_B Funny! I actually prefer reading physical books so I pack the real thing all the time! 4y

BookNAround I hesitate to admit how many bags of books I brought with me on vacation. If I‘m willing to schlep them, I figure I‘m allowed to bring them despite my family‘s fussing. 4y
EadieB @BookNAround You never know what you‘re going to be in the mood for. Nobody ever understands book people unless you are one! 4y
jb72 Too true! I think I took five books with me to Israel. 4y
tessavi Yup! When we went camping as a kid both my mom and I brought a crate full of books. Once I finished mine, I would move on to her books. 4y
EadieB @tessavi Your mom taught you well! 4y

Mid year check in:

Goodreads Reading Challenge:
You have read 59 out of 100 books

#Booked20019
Winter - Completed
Spring - 4 out of 6
Summer - 5 out of 6
Fall - 1 out of 6

#LitsyAtoZ
20 books read 6 to go

I‘m doing well on all of my challenges except #ReadingUSA2019 - I even switched over to a mixed track and there are NOT a lot of pretty colored squares on this map!!

⬇️⬇️⬇️

IndoorDame My personal goals were: 1) to read more women authors ✅ most of the books I read this year have been by women 2) to read more authors of color ❎ this has been harder to do, mostly because I‘m excited by books that get press attention and they get my time, but also because I‘m noticing race isn‘t usually part of people‘s media bio, but I‘m hoping to do better in the second half of the year 3) to read more intentionally🤷‍♀️ (edited) 5y
Librarybelle You‘re doing well with your challenges! I‘ve fallen behind on mine...my mantra is there is still half a year. 5y
IndoorDame @Librarybelle totally! I felt waay behind too, that‘s why I decided to check in now. when I tallied everything up I was able to make it way more manageable with a few changes. like I‘d originally wanted to do AtoZ as titles but only had about 11 and when I switched to authors I had 20! 5y

LibrarianJen Try this one for New Mexico. It‘s written by a local Navajo Woman who was the first poet laureate from the Navajo Nation. 5y
IndoorDame @LibrarianJen thanks! I've actually been trying to decide what to read for #booked2019 # indigenousauthor the past few days too so thats perfect! 5y

Knocked out these two reads today while relaxing in the cabin on the lake. Very informative read and cool to learn that some of my alma mater‘s history made the cut. And of course the setting was very #hygge #weekendreads
