Country 20: Vatican City has amazing art. I saw the Pope at the Angelus blessing, climbed St Peter's Basilica and saw the Pieta, visited Vatican Museums (love the School of Athens painting - you can see a grumpy Michaelangelo in it🤣) and of course the Sistine Chapel. The Last Just (back wall) separates sinners/saints - guess where M. painted his enemies 🤣

Taut and poignant; interesting premise and theologically sound. Good read.
My attempts to stay healthy were thwarted and Mr. JSW and I are sick AGAIN. We have had every bug this year. 😑 So, lots of rest and trying to read (when not asleep). The cat, of course, never minds having my lap available. Stay healthy, Litsy.
Up next, a different one this time. Not sure about it, I think I liked the blurb when I bought it, now I'm not so sure, we'll see
#25inFive: 24.5 hrs and not done tonight!
Day 5 working my way through this, 5 hrs! Not done yet!
Book haul from Books Inc. this weekend. I try to limit my bookstore purchases to one new, one sale. Tiny cottage life. 👍🏼
Two brothers, one Catholic and the other Eastern Catholic, a murder and the history of a religious relic all collide in this novel. Just so-so for me. I didn't really like the two brothers all that much, and the plot was difficult to follow at times. Found it on the discount shelf at the book store. Would be disappointed if I'd paid full price.
My current read - #itsallamystery - and I don't have it figured out yet.

A mysterious exhibit is under construction at the Vatican museums. The curator is murdered at a clandestine meeting in the outskirts of Rome a week before it opens. That same night a violent break in rocks the home of Greek Catholic priest Father Alex Andreou. When the papal police fail to identify a suspect in either crime, father Alex decided that to find the killer he must reconstruct the secret.

Stack down by one: hijinks in the Vatican. Hero too earnest (for me) but liked great courtroom speech scene as well as learning about Greek Catholicism. Ian knows his Vatican inside out.
I just read The Fifth Gospel by Ian Caldwell, it is beautifully written and suspenseful to the end. It gives some fascinating peeks into the workings of the Vatican. I recommend it!

This book had me hooked from the get go, until the end. I started to lose interest quite quickly, but don't get me wrong it is still an incredible book, but the way that it seems so perfect in every detail just seemed to make it drag on a little where perhaps it didn't need to. All in all, I would definitely re-read, and I would recommend to anyone who loves a good Dan Brown-esque novel.
"A lost gospel, a relic, and a dying pope's final wish send two brothers - both Vatican priests - on a quest to untangle Christianity's biggest mystery." I've only just started this book but wow I am hooked! It is so intriguing.
Stylistically similar to Dan Brown, but different enough to hold my attention. I liked this book.
"A priest can forgive a stranger so quickly that a boy can't imagine how hard he will find it, someday, to forgive his own enemies. Or his own loved ones. He has no inkling that good men can sometimes find it impossible to forgive themselves"
