Rot and Ruin
Rot and Ruin | Jonathan Maberry
26 posts | 57 read | 27 to read
The perfect read for fans of The Walking Dead, from an award-winning author. Nearly fourteen years ago, a freak virus swept across the world - turning those infected into the undead. Benny Imura has grown-up never knowing anything different; his last memory of his parents was of them becoming zombies. Now Benny is fifteen, and joining his brother Tom in the 'family business' of zombie killing. Benny and Tom head into the Rot and Ruin, an area full of the wandering undead, and Benny realises that being a bounty hunter isn't just about whacking zombies. Benny finds his beliefs challenged - and discovers that sometimes the worst monsters you can imagine aren't the zombies, after all

This isn‘t really my kind of book, but I thought i‘d give it a try. Was I pleasantly amazed? Sort of.

This book follows the story of Benny Imura, a fifteen year old boy who‘s forced to get a job so the government doesn‘t cut his rations. With few options, he turns to his brother, asking for an apprenticeship as a bounty hunter. But there‘s a lot more to killing zombies than he expected.
It was okay, just not really my type of book.

Honestly this was not the book for me. That being said, it was well written, had a good plot, and had interesting characters and others I talked to really enjoyed it. For me I was expecting more of a Twilight or Hush, Hush story, but with zombies, so I was disappointed while reading it. I would still recommend that you give it a try if you like zombies and adventure stories.

🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️

Bookworm54 I still need to read this one, but I thought the webtoon comic was excellent! 4y

#20Series20Days Day

This YA series is on my #Top20Series list because, quite simply, it‘s a really good zombie story. It has all the things—fantastic characters, great plot, loads of action, high stakes, emotional depth & most importantly, the reason(s) for everything is really smart & well thought out. Plus, there‘s no let up—it‘s good beginning to end. Don‘t think you like zombie stories? Try this one & you just might. 🧟‍♀️ 🧟‍♂️

@Andrew65

Andrew65 Another new series. 4y
Johanna414 I recommend this series to students all the time! 4y

“The wind howled through the trees, like a #host of banshees. Benny had never heard anything like it, and despite everything, there was some weird little part of him that liked it. It wasn‘t “cool”—He‘d cut off his leg before he used that word again. No, it was, in its own raw and primal way, magnificent.” #QuotsyOct19 #AllHallowsRead

Rot & Ruin is a fitting read for October, dystopia, ruin, zombies, fierce females and family.

1. Rot and Ruin by Jonathan Maberry
2. Just nailed the first week of school! Gonna sleep late, get caught up on chores, and READ! (And grade papers and finish grad school assignments 😒).
3. Pistachio almond
4. Does Chopsticks on the piano count 😁? Took lessons as a kid but didn‘t persevere, which I now regret.

Sorry it‘s a day late, but just came home and crashed last night! Have a wonderful long weekend, Littens! ❤️

Went for my one week after-surgery checkup and I am pleased to report that the tissue sample showed the surgeon removed all of the cancer and I only have DCIS--the cancer stayed noninvasive and I can proceed with radiation in a few weeks! This is amazing news!! Everything is healing, stitches were removed, and I'll be back to normal soon. To all my female family and friends, I am now the poster child for getting your yearly mammograms done ASAP!!

“He knew that these creatures were dead, that they were reanimated echoes who wore the disguise of the people they had once been, but Tom's words rang in his mind. They used to be people. How could he strike them? How could he hurt them? Children, women, old people. Lost souls.”
This book made me think of a YA walking dead.

Bookzombie I love this series. He has a new one coming out in December. I don‘t know if it should be called a spin-off or what. I think it‘s the same world with different characters. 6y

7-8-17: Spent a great day at the Orlando Book Festival and got to hear a keynote address from Jonathan Maberry, Bram Stoker award winning author. He told the story of his upbringing including a father who was the head of a KKK chapter in Philadelphia, a librarian who helped him with independent studies when no one wanted to deal with him, and Ray Bradbury as a mentor when he was 13! Very interesting speaker!!!

Love how the author forces us to question who the "monsters" are in the world while forcing us to question our motivations to live.
