A remarkable new historical thriller by New York Times notable mystery author Lawrence Goldstone that evokes the New York City of 1899. In 1899, in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Noah Whitestone is called urgently to his wealthy neighbors house to treat a five-year-old boy with a shocking set of symptoms. When the child dies suddenly later that night, Noah is accused by the boys regular physicianthe powerful and politically connected Dr. Arnold Friasof prescribing a lethal dose of laudanum. To prove his innocence, Noah must investigate the murderfor it must be murderand confront the man whom he is convinced is the real killer. His investigation leads him to a reporter for a muckraking magazine and a beautiful radical editor who are convinced that a secret, experimental drug from Germany has caused the death of at least five local children, and possibly many more. By degrees, Noah is drawn into a dangerous world of drugs, criminals, and politics, which threatens not just his career but also his life. As he did in his first highly successful medical thriller The Anatomy of Deception, Goldstone weaves a savvy tale of intrigue and stunning twists that incorporates real-life historical figures and events into the action while richly recreating the closing days of the nineteenth centurya time when American might was on the march in the Pacific, medicine was poised to leap into a new era, radical politics threatened the status quo in American and Europe, and the role of women in American society was undergoing profound change.

@Natasha.C.Barnes is hosting a giveaway and wants to hear about those books on your shelf you somehow collected but know nothing about.

This book came in a PageHabit box and all I know is the info in the blurb. It‘s a historical medical thriller in which the doctor is accused of killing his young patient. Anyone read it?

I‘d be interested in Freedom or American Pastoral since they‘re both on the 1001 books list I‘m working on.

#NCBGiveaway

Natasha.C.Barnes Hey hey! I forgot to ask whereabouts you live, I forgot to narrow the boundaries when I first posted the giveaway but I'm hoping to honor your entry anyway if you win, unless they want a super crazy amount to send it to you. 😂 7y
Daisey @Natasha.C.Barnes I‘m in Missouri, so no crazy international postage! 😉 7y

Bookmail is always the best mail. I decided on getting the fantasy along with the historical fiction this time and I am far from disappointed. I have seen The City of Brass on Litsy and I have tried to win Deadly Cure in a Goodreads giveaway. The canvas bag is very cute and the magnifying bookmark is very useful. #pagehabit #mypagehabit #pagehabitcares #Bookmail #historicalfiction #fantasy
