A good choice for audiobook as music is integral.
The story of three children in different parts of the world during the years before and during World War II. Their stories are tied together by a harmonica and love of music.
A gentle story to introduce children to the realities of the rise of fascism and WWII, including the persecution of the Jews and minorities in Germany and internment of Japanese in the US.

Oh my goodness. This book was the historical fiction with a dash of fairy tale that I didn't know I was looking for. I highly recommend listening to it as music is an integral part of the story and the producers do a wonderful job incorporating it into the reading.
In the shadow of WWII, one boy lives in turbulent times in Germany, brothers at an orphanage who have been dealt a short hand in life and just trying to stay together, and a little girl who doesn‘t understand the segregation around her. All finding peace and safety in music. You can‘t help but feel a thread a hope and a sprinkle of magic.

I really enjoyed this book! The different storylines confused me at first and the way the lives interweave is a little unlikely, but I really appreciate the emotional depth Muñoz Ryan gives her characters and the role that music plays in the story. I am very glad I listened to this on audio as it enhanced the experience to hear the music.
This is my 3rd from #nywd22 and my favorite so far. Thanks for the recommendation, @sblbooks ! @monalyisha

✨I read 169 books last year, but 2022 is shaping up to be a different kind of year, so I'm keeping my reading goal at 100 books.
✨ Realignment. Lots of big changes on the horizon for my family in the next couple of years (plus a few we don't see coming, I'm sure), and I want to keep sight of my priorities.
✨Tagged is my third for #nywd22 and I am enjoying it a lot!
Thanks for the tag, @Allylu !
Starting this book with my students for the first time on Monday, and I couldn‘t find my personal copy, so stopped by the Half Priced Books by my school, and grabbed this copy. Opened the cover to see 4 other people‘s names, locations, and usernames from this app. An app I have never even heard of but loved how it went from TX to CA to Japan to GA. Tagged those of you who wrote. Pretty special. All dates were from 2017. 😂
Camille is steadfast in nursing me while I weather booster side effects. She says, "Your temperature is still elevated. Best lie still and listen to your audiobook until dinner time. I'll keep the backs of your knees warm."
The #3rdBookof2021 and my #1stQuarterBookof2021 pick was Echo by Pamela Munoz Ryan - the audiobook version is amazing! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!! #12Booksof2021
During #MGMarch, Echo by Pam Munez Ryan affected me the most. It‘s a beautiful story. I love reading on the porch in the Spring! I am hosting #YApril and I will do any Readathons that @Andrew65 does, #BookSpinBingo, our local library‘s #100YEARS100BOOKS, #BFC21 and #BOOKED2021. I am looking at the #ThankfulAThon, possibly the #DisabilityReadathon, and the #Buzzwordathon. Those are on Twitter.
A Newbery Honor, but if I was in charge I‘d give it the Newbery Medal

Oh my, oh my, oh my. Are we sure this is a middle grade book? I am so emotional. I just finished it and I can‘t stop tearing up. What a beautiful story. I just, just loved it. The musician in me was definitely touched. And the craftsmanship in weaving the three stories together - just fantastic. This is a must read! #100YEARS100BOOKS #BFC21 #MGMarch
@MallenNC I loved this! It was an absolutely beautiful audio book. It did almost have me balling on the way home one day. Excellent pick for #newyearswhodis! Thank you for a great match @monalyisha !
I highly recommend this book! One of my faves! A beautiful blue cover, but the book-Without-jacket is just as beautiful even if not very blue. Blue symbolizes #tranquility and this book promises that by the beautiful writing

This story should be listened to as the audiobook includes music which is crucial to the story. #audiobook #festiveflicks #favecolor @Traci1
I think I‘m going to start with these four in January. I probably won‘t get to all of them, but I‘m going to make a stab at it. Super excited to start these! And I‘m definitely doing Echo on audio. Now to go shopping. #newyearwhodis
I did something fun. I bought this book and a harmonica for my daughter, niece and two of their friends, just because. They are enthralled in this story, playing their harmonicas and one girl is playing the music in the book on the piano!!
My 10 year old and I are reading this and it‘s a captivating story!
This is a great book but the audio version is #incredible! There‘s three storylines that connect and music throughout.

One of my closest friends has three kids. They are in second, fifth, seventh grades now and I‘ve given them books all their lives. Here are three that were big hits over the years. I was excited to see there‘s a new Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls out now, while my friend‘s daughter is still young enough to want it.

Why did I wait so long before starting this book?! 5🌟 read. The book‘s theme is revealed by what three teens Friedrich, Mike, and Ivy truly have in common: not just a love of music, but resourcefulness in the face of change, and a refusal to accept injustice. Enchanting and magical! Highly recommend ❣️

This is my #MarchWrapUp. I haven‘t quite finished Dear Mrs. Bird but it‘s close enough that I‘m counting it. This was a good reading month overall, considering I had some days when I couldn‘t focus enough to read. Echo, which I listened to, was my favorite but all of these were good. #MagnificentMarch
3 Middle Grade, 3 Audiobooks, 2 nonfiction, one mystery/thriller, 2 BookSpin/DoubleSpin
I loved this so much! I listened to the audiobook, which included the music that plays an important part in the story. There are three main storylines (four including the fairy tale) and they‘re all compelling even though they all stop on a cliffhanger before being resolved in the last section. I‘m impressed by the way the author trusts young readers to understand and care about sad/difficult chapters in history. Loved it.

I'm still wrapping my head around this book. While the connection between the three stories was not difficult to figure out (this is billed as YA, after all), it didn't feel forced. This book was written so beautifully. I can see why both of my teenage girls recommended it so highly.
I don't give many 5⭐ reviews, but I've had three this month! On a roll!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Anne Bogel said that this is fantastic on audio, so here we go! Both of my girls really enjoyed this (in print). #currentread #currentlyreading #audiobook #readingwithmyears
I have a physical copy of this book (which is stunning) but I‘d heard such great things about the audio version that I had to try it. So worth it! In this story a magical harmonica travels between children around the time of WWII. The music they perform is woven throughout the recording. Different readers give each section a distinct feel. Great middle grade book for history and music buffs!
Okay, well it‘s time to actually try and sleep now. Headphones are in, and this lovely #musical #audiobook is playing. Hopefully it can lull me to sleep.... otherwise I‘ll be back here posting more ridiculous (yet hilariously relatable) memes.
Happy sleeping everyone. ♥️
Another book in my quest to read young adults and and even Middle School books. This was three character, all who played a harmonica (same one) all stories merging together at the end.
The abrupt end of each character's story to move on to the next one was a little annoying.
Chopin, Bach, and Brahms played throughout the narrative. I can‘t imagine reading this and not having the music playing. This is a story about the love of humanity and music hopefully triumphing (I‘m only in Part 2) over the hate and poverty ridden era during WW2. #music#middle-grade
I listened to this audiobook and enjoyed it. It‘s an interesting way to teach the reader about WW2 with characters in Germany under the Hitler regime, and in the US as orphans and immigrants. Oh yes, and some magic! I was not expecting the musical references made frequently throughout the book and think that these were likely better in the audiobook as they played the songs being discussed. Teens may not have the perseverance required to finish.
Echo revolves around three young adult characters that use a magical harmonica to navigate through societal issues and community conflicts, and, through the music, the characters destinies become intertwined. @TheFunkyBookworm #YAWednesday
Monday had me in the ER with J who has a nasty case of contact dermatitis, and between that and work and trying to unpack and community commitments, I‘ve not done much reading. I did just finish Echo on audio while trying to make sure there‘s clear space for my landlord to tackle my punch list tomorrow, including installing the anchor bar for my wall-mounted bookshelves.
Here, have a picture of my orchid and her 3 ice cube weekly watering.
This is another book that has been enhanced by listening to the audio version since it features music. Kept me and my two kids entertained during a road trip from DC to Boston.
I‘m becoming really invested in Mike and Frankie‘s story, and looking forward to learning more about the folks they meet in their new circumstances.
Also testing tagging @timspalding — same workaround works as with the issue Rainey asked about a while ago, I‘ll link the YTs
Porch kitteh watching me make potato salad while listening to this lovely audiobook.
A coworker recommended this audiobook to me, so I went in blind and WOW. This is definitely worth listening to, as music is integral to the story and the production does a great job at incorporating it. I was first afraid that I had stumbled into a depressing WWII book that would have too many parallels to what is happening in the US right now, but was completely charmed and am glad I kept with it.
