Surfside Girls Book One: The Secret of Danger Point
Surfside Girls Book One: The Secret of Danger Point | Kim Dwinell
9 posts | 6 read | 6 to read
Things are getting weird in Surfside. Lately, Samanthas best friend Jade explodes into fits of giggles whenever she sees a boy, and its throwing a wrench into the kick-back summer of surfing and hanging out that Sam had planned. But after swimming through a secret underwater cave, Sam starts to see things. Like ghosts. And pirates. And maybe something even scarier! Can she and Jade get to the bottom of this mystery in time to save their town?

I caught a science-focused Volume of this series a while back as a #HooplaBonusBorrow and fell in love with the artist‘s style. The water color is beautiful and the attention to detail is amazing. The story itself is adorable and adventurous. #Comic #Ocean #Ghosts

Did Kim Dwinell write this specifically for me? Am *I* secretly Kim Dwinell? I‘m so overwhelmed by the perfection of this reading match. The only way it could‘ve been better is if I‘d read it when I was twelve. It‘s about: the ocean, ghosts, environmentalism, first crushes, & A SNUGGLY BUNNY. Get out of my brain! 👇🏻

monalyisha 1/1: My only criticism is that Jade, Samantha‘s Asian BFF, feels pretty stereotypical; she plays a musical instrument, is super-smart, & has strict parents who push her to succeed. The relationship she shares with Samantha is solid (they *always* have each other‘s backs; it‘s a great example of female friendship). I just wish she‘d been given more unique depth. 5y

This is our newest reading buddy, Rand. He loves belly rubs and is a bit mischievous, so we made his middle name Weasley. And since he is a ginger, I call him my little wildling. (Tormund is my favorite.)

Oh, and I really enjoyed this book! 😁 It was a nice blend of strong, independent girls, trying to solve a mystery—but still middle school girls with crushes. Can‘t wait for the next one.

Summer book and summer beer! Wish I had had this #kidlit #graphicnovel on hand when a patron asked me the other week for a GN mystery. This has tween surfer girls, ghost guardians, a seaside town dealing with a new resort, and a gentle mystery. Light summer fun. ☀️ 🏖 🏄‍♀️

1. Brunch tomorrow, followed by a tattoo consultation, & then outdoor adventuring with an old friend & his new pup. 🐶☀️🌲
2. Sunsets are a great way to relax after a hectic workday. ✌🏻 (Also, tbh, I‘m not usually awake & alert for sunrises. 😉)
3. Heck yes! Here‘s little me, takin‘ in some rays. 😎
4. Dirty blonde/light brown
5. 🤠👋🏻

Mitch Tattoo consultation- love the sound of that! 6y
monalyisha @Mitch Thanks! I‘m basically just figuring out how small some lettering can be without it blurring. The plan is to get three words from one of my favorite Mary Oliver poems: “one”, “precious”, & “wild.” 🍃 6y
