pickThis was an excellent surprise! Alethea Kontis's fairy tale retellings are dark and inventive, with plenty of twists that build these stories' familiar bones into something that feels fresh. I skipped the last story since it's a spoiler-filled deleted scene from one of Kontis's novels (with a warning to that effect so the uninitiated can do what I did), but I loved the rest and will definitely read more of her stuff.
