A middle grade fantasy heavily influenced by Harry Potter. In fact, it can read as female led fan fiction. The plot is fun & fast moving, but not as well-developed as I would have liked. There is a lot left unexplained & quite a few coincidence happenings in the plot. The basis is interesting & it will likely be a good read for younger middle graders. Not a bad read by any means, just not enough creative exploration & thoroughness to hook me.

Good morning everyone!
I wish a better week for all of you.

📖 I started not rating the books with the stars 🙃 but commenting on them, in honor of all those new writers out there. Inevitably, I will have to rate them on Goodreads and NetGalley but not on other social media 🤗

Happy Reading 🥰

*I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

I actually enjoyed this book a lot more than expected. The plot was very much like Harry Potter and I loved the magical components to the world of Croswald. I like all the characters we meet, and I loved the friendship between Ivy and Rebecca, and the possible small romance between Ivy and Fyn. I liked the plot twists and the cliffhanger ending too, though I won't continue.

Ellies_Books06 I was reading this but needed it in my Kindle, they never send it 😔 and its hard reading on my phone 3y
abookdragonsretreat @Iamaslowreader Oh no, maybe email them and ask if they can sort it? I read my copy through the NetGalley shelf app as I received a free copy😊 3y
Ellies_Books06 @AmyTheBookdragon I was reading through the NetGalley app too. Will follow your advice.ñ, maybe. 3y

Though many seem to enjoy it, I could not get through The Crowns of Croswald by D. E. Night. For one thing, it jumped around a lot. I had a hard time following along with what was happening. Details were not explained in a timely manner, but rather given far after they were needed. For another thing, it came off as a lesser version of Harry Potter. Some of the names of books and shops felt like cheap imitations.

What do Cinderella, Harry Potter, & The Crowns of Croswald have in common? Awesome orphans, hiding away, & magic.
What is different?
Ivy Lovely is so much more endearing!!

Perfect day to read in front of the fire and watch the snow fall while envisioning what your reading. Which is The Crowns of Croswald by D.E. Night

Cupcake12 Pretty picture. In the UK it‘s wet and misty, very miserable 😂 4y
LinesUponAPage @Cupcake12 I'm sorry. That's a bummer.

This snow will turn an ugly color of yellow and I will get tired of it very quickly. If that helps. 😂

The beautifully vivid descriptions are the best part about this middle grade book that parallels Harry Potter in many ways. Hopefully the rest of the series sees improved dialogue and pacing.

A cast of great charecters in a magical fantasy world. The main character Ivy Lovely works in a kitchen where scaldron dragons act as stoves for cooking. A series of events cause her to leave the life she‘s known behind. Ivy leaves with a scaldron dragon by her side off on quite an adventure where she is discovering who she is in a school for magic.

The Crowns of Croswald by DE Night was a fun read! It reminded of a blend of Once Upon a Time, Harry Potter, and some Disney magic sprinkled on top. I‘d love to see this made into a Disney movie or series. I think kids would love this world. I‘m looking forward to future Croswald books. Check out www.goodreads.com/coleyreads for my review.

This fantasy novel is the story of a young teenager who gets sent to a school of magic and fights the villain with the help of their friends. Sound familiar? Yep, I couldn't read this without being reminded of Harry Potter the whole time. There just wasn't a ton of originality, and I felt like I had trouble figuring out the mythology. I think it'd be enjoyable for middle grade or YA readers, but they're better off just sticking with HP. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Finished Crowns of Croswald last night and started How To Be Human and COBAB for the #cobabbuddyread
Crowns gets a 4🌟 from me. It was loads of fun, fast paced with rich characters. The world was extravagant and you could see all the influences clearly in it. My only issue was that I wanted more backstory on the types of magic. There was no history given as to the origin of Royals and Scrivenists or how they ended up working together.

I immediately loved the richness of the world building, with all its magical details. It took me a while to get hooked on the story though, because a lot is left unexplained for a long time. But it all has a purpose! All my questions were answered at the end. I did have one issue with the book: Ivy didn't feel like a distinctive main character to me, mostly because her emotions weren't clear to me. The side characters were all really good though!

I did like this story, but it was too familiar. Meaning it was too similar to Harry Potter. I love HP and I felt like this book was trying to be like it. Don't get me wrong it was definitely a fun and magical read with its own characters and world building. I would recommend The Crowns of Croswald to middle grade/preteens who want more adventure like that of Harry Potter.

I'm really glad I agreed to receive a copy of this book to review!
I absolutely loved the world created in this book. The magic and the way magic is used is totally unique. I loved the idea of a school of magic (it really did have some HP vibes) and I loved the characters! Ivy kinda reminded me of a mix between Hermione and Luna which made her totally awesome in my opinion.
It was an action packed and fun filled read!

The_Heeler_Booklife I got an arc for this book as well. It looks so good. I have a ton of books to read currently and haven't been able to pick up this one yet. 7y
