I read this years ago and enjoyed this different take on the Sleeping Beauty tale with #BabaYaga as the villian.

When a scholar of Old Church Slavonic language and lore suddenly finds himself a part of the legends he studies, is there really any way of going back?
This appropriately titled book held me spellbound. I fell in love with the characters and the setting, and found myself in awe of the writer's ability to weave folklore and time travel into a truly enchanting story.
The old tale of Sleeping Beauty might end happily in French or English, but he was in Russia, and only a fool would want to live through the Russian version of any fairy tale.
#marchintoreading Day 2 Judge by cover- I have rarely been disappointed when I picked a book up based on its cover. I've read and loved all but the Sunflower book. So, sometimes it's ok to judge s book by its cover ❤️📚📚
#photoadaynov16 I adore this retelling of Sleeping Beauty. Orson Scott Card is amazing and I love the way he writes married couples. His dialogue has a way of capturing the warmth of unsaid mutual feelings that sometimes define long time couples.
I first got into reading this author with Ender's Game I read that entire series and then my cousin recommended this book. It is amazing it is totally different than the rest of his works that I've read but it's fun it's exciting it's a great take on fantasy from (in my experience) a sci-fi writer.

Jumping on the bandwagon. lol
There is probably more detail I could add about authors. Such as one is by an LGBT...I think. But frankly, I never chose a book based on the author (unless I LOVE everything an author writes, such as the 2 🚹 authors where I read 2 📚 each in July). I pick books based on title, cover, & summary. I didn't even know the 2📚 by 🚺 were written by 🚺 till I got them home. 😜
What else could I add?
I liked the physicality of this story...it was extremely body-centered and that made the fairytale aspect shine, in my opinion. I do think OSC needs a wider "canvas" than this book allowed. The short length didn't give him room to flesh it out, and some characters and ideas fell flat. 3.5/5 ⭐️
Really enjoyed this one!! Different approach to a fairy-tale style story. Reminded me somewhat of the movie "Enchanted" with people being out of their cultural norms, which was great.
Shoutout to @VeteransWife512 for posting about this book so I could find out about it! :)
I'm reading by flashlight because it's stormy and we have no power. 🔦
Had a slow start to the last book in the trilogy I'm rereading so decided to take a break and finally start something off of my to read shelf! Finding this book engaging and witty so far!
Excited to crack this one open. 👏🏼
AMAZING! Must read!
Magic. Folklore & gods. Time travel. Unexpected love. GREAT CHARACTERS!
Writing was exciting, witty, & gripping. I couldn't put the book down! My family will be happy to have me back! Lol. Sad this wasn't a series. Wrapped up nicely, but with the feel the story could go on...
Sometimes a good thing, sometimes not. Always true.
Fitting chapter title for today (and it takes place on the 4th of July too)!
Happy Independence Day America!!!
I read over 120 pages today...thats like a record for me! 😄
I literally could not put this book down! Thankful I had the time to read so much! Only 25% left of it to go (thanks goodreads for that info!).
To bad I had to go to bed. Can't wait to read more tomorrow!!!
😴
What the what?!?!?
I found myself falling in love with Ivan through Katerina's eyes. I thought it was my empathic nature.
Now I am amazed, confused, and shocked like Ivan. And now I'm sure it's just Card's fabulous writing!
Holy cow! Huge twist!!! 😳
Almost half way through and I can honestly say without a doubt that Card's fantasy is as amazing as his science fiction (at least Ender's Game series, still need to read more of his Sci-fi & looking forward to it!).
I'm so hooked on this book I don't wanna do anything else!!! 💚📖😄
Finally I can read! Waited all morning for this moment! Its getting real good! Love the characters so far. 😄
While the character who said this did so in jest, it is none the less sometimes soberingly true.
Me as a mother 😂
My dad's funeral was Monday so I needed a pick-me-up & what better place than to go to the most magical place on earth, a bookstore? I found myself looking at Orson Scott Card novels. I didn't know if I wanted to start a Sci-fi or fantasy series of his. I got the 1st 2 books of both & an extra novel
