Me in college 28 years ago: "I CANNOT wait until I'm done with school forever and have free time to read for fun - books that I choose and that aren't chosen for me!"

Me today: *fondly recalls reading a book that I was assigned in class during college* "I should re-read that!"

Tamra 😏 Funny how that happens...... 7y
merelybookish Cute! I used to try tell that to students...shockingly, they didn't believe me. 🤷 7y
TrishB Great pic 👍 7y

JacqMac So it's not just me? 😂 7y
ValerieAndBooks And also..."ooh, a classic that everyone was required to read except me. I'm going to add this to my TBR"!! 7y
Dragon I remember this anthology ❤️ 7y
LeahBergen 😂😂 7y
Ubookquitous I had that Anthology parts 1 & 2 as well as the Norton Anthology of American Lit part 1 & 2 as well as Norton Critical additions of all the Romantic Poets, Dostoyevski, Tolstoy, Hamlet (4X larger than the text) and numerous others... LOL 7y
LauraBeth @Tamra I know 😬 I would have never guessed I'd be saying that now 7y
LauraBeth @merelybookish Our teachers tried to tell us the same thing - but we didn't listen! 7y
LauraBeth @TrishB 🤗🤗 7y
LauraBeth @JacqMac you mean it's just not me either? 😂 Total book nerds! 7y
LauraBeth @ValerieAndBooks it's soooo good! 7y
LauraBeth @dragon I swoon whenever I see a Norton nowadays because it brings back good memories ❤️ 7y
LauraBeth @LeahBergen I remember saying that ALL the time! "I can't wait until I'm "free" and can read ALL the books that I want to read!" ? 7y
LauraBeth @Ubookquitous I have Norton Envy now 😀 7y
Dragon Now I'm wondering what happened to mine , probably my sister or brother used it when they followed me to college. 7y

When you are looking for one thing, but instead find a box of old books from college! #BookWin

Wow, those bricks are even bigger than I remember!

DGRachel ❤️❤️❤️ 8y
Melkyl Norton Anthologies...so heavy!! 8y

SealedWithInk I hated having to carry Norton Anthologies in my bag for uni 8y
The_Literary_Jedi Oh, the memories...hauling Norton around uni everyday and the wonderful *thunk* it made as you dropped on a desk 8y
kammartinez Gosh, but these bring back memories. The editions we used at uni were a different cover (they were blue, I think) but yeah, they were as thick as these. We also had the Norton book for literary criticism, which proved EXTREMELY helpful when we were doing our open-note comprehensive exams. 8y
BethFishReads I think I was one of the editors for that edition. I've edited several of them, just can't remember which ones. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BethFishReads they probably bring back a lot of memories for you then 8y
BethFishReads They do. I know them well :) 8y

DGRachel ❤️❤️❤️ I love my Nortons! 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Shortstack Was it you that I was talking to about these awhile back? 8y
Shortstack @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yes! I "had" to purchase the entire British set for school and for my next class I "have" to purchase the American. So tragic. ???? 8y
Shortstack Seriously though. I may just read them all start to finish one day. So much love! 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Shortstack I know what you mean, I "had" to buy the English set, but as you can tell couldn't bear to part with them and sell them back. Kind of wishing I had done the American Lit versions too....maybe sometime. 8y

When you are finishing your MA in Italian Studies and applying for PhD programs in English Literature--your two programs want you to be an expert in your century of specialization, but the GRE wants you to be an omniscient creature from the literary heavens. Did I mention I'm taking the three MA exams and two GRE exams in the same three weeks? That's enough to throw anyone into a quarterlife crisis!
Thanks to wine/yoga for keeping me (semi) sane!

Heather_Reads Sounds like you've got your work cut out for you! 8y
BookishMarginalia My problem would be the math 😱 8y
katedensen The GRE Literature in English exam is a MONSTER. 8y

ladyclassics @Heather_Reads I do indeed! A month and a half into studying and one month to go! :O @BookishMarginalia mine too!! Although my professors keep telling me not to put too much effort into studying for it..I don't want to do it again! It's so futile for our field! @katedfisher It is killing me! The pretest was a monster alone. The classical verse/greek mythology was what killed me. I'm a 18th-20th century kind of girl! 8y
teainthelibrary I can help with classical/Greek!! 8y
kspenmoll Best of luck! 8y
ladyclassics @teainthelibrary unfortunately I just have to keep reading the old English/ middle English verse to get accustomed to it so I can recognize the author/references :( if you have any easy way to remember all the classical greek figures though that would be nice!! 8y
ladyclassics @kspenmoll thank you! I'll need all the luck I can get! 8y

What's not to like? It has it all, if only a bit of it all. First and second editions. Definitely something in there for everyone.

#MyBiggestBook is left over from college - yes, decades ago. My all-time favorite love poem is still marked. It lives in my guest room for bedtime reading. And each volume is 2500+ pages! #nevergonnadonate

Reviewsbylola I have some Norton anthologies hiding out in my basement too. 8y
Sydsavvy Ooh so good! 8y
LauraBeth Those look like my editions from college 😀 8y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @ErinC Envious of your new editions! Hope the students are good to you this year. 😀 8y
ErinC Thanks @BarbaraTheBibliophage! They always are - I'm very lucky! It's the parents who can be a pain! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ErinC Yes, I can only imagine! 8y
Sydsavvy Lol yes evidently! And here I thought I was the only one who still cherished them. 😎😎 8y

This beast is #mybiggestbook it was required reading at Uni. Although it caused a lot of despair I could never part with it. It weighs a ton.

MrBook I used this in so many of my courses! Wonderful material. 8y
TheLondonBookworm Can't get through a literature degree without this one 😉 8y
SarahKat84 The Norton anthology editions are great! I may have even accumulated a few extra in my post college years. Don't know how that happened 😄 8y
Bookworm-Bobbie @SarahKat84 I have three of them ☺️. The bibliophile in me just loves how many authors are in one book! Move over kindle, I have a Norton! 😉 8y
BookHermit Ah, memories of lower back pain 😉 8y
