Den mörkaste hemligheten
Den mörkaste hemligheten | Alex Marwood
36 posts | 30 read | 31 to read

Started off well, completely bored me to death in the middle and then had a decent ending.
Hopefully my next book of 2022 will be better 😆

This is such a good book, which I was not expecting, so pleasantly surprised. Definitely stick to it the whole way through. I did get STRONG Madeline McCann vibes though, so not the most original storyline

When wealthy developer Sean Jackson dies, his estranged daughter Mila reconnects with old family friends and long lost relatives, all haunted by the disappearance of Coco, one of Sean's twin 3-year-old daughters, nearly a decade before. This twisty thriller was highly readable, but full of reprehensible behavior by adults who should be focused on the children in their care. Also: fans of neatly resolved endings may not be happy.

BookDragonNotWorm I liked this one, but you're right about the ending. 😬 6y

I didn't like this one quite as much as her other two. A stellar plot, but I didn't like the format as much, even though it worked well for this story. This author does not shy away from getting her hands dirty with some nasty secrets! Marwood is a true mistress of suspense.

DUDE. Perfectly paced and creepy as hell with enough twists to keep even the savviest reader engaged. I did guess as to who the “big bad†of sorts would be but watching it all play our was still really fun in the darkest way. #24in48

I am failing miserably with #deweysreadathon , thanks to adulting. But, while running errands, I had to visit my favorite independent bookstore for #independentbookstoreday . They had sales galore and a make your own bookmark table. I snagged the tagged book from the Blind Date with a Book display. And, of course more Agatha Christie for the #agathachristieclub .

And, look at the tiny Poe book. I think I‘m in love. â¤ï¸

What did happen to 3 year old Coco who disappears in the night on a family vacation? This book had me guessing right until the very last chapter. Totally drawn into both the plot and characters. Would make a brilliant book club read as there‘s so much to discuss!

I almost bailed on this after an hour of listening to the audiobook. Checked Litsy reviews and decided to hang in. I‘m glad I did. This is a story of lies, secrets, personality disorders, and snobby rich people. In the end, important lessons about family are realized. For the audio, it‘s important to pay attention to the switches between past and present.

Well that's annoying! Nothing resolved and several different stories told to several different people to cover everyone's *ss. I think I may actually be a little pissed off. I hate hate it when someone gets away with something in a book. Especially something as heinous as killing a child! Aarrgghh!

I found this book hard to get into at first as it felt a bit slow but it quickly picked up and I found myself racing to the finish. I didn't see the twist coming at the end and thought it was all very intriguing. I was all over the place and couldn't work out what was going on. Lots of lies, lots of secrets and it was just a very unique read. Liked it but not my favourite book ever.

I wasn't crazy about the author's second book, but I heard such great things about The Darkest Secret, I decided to give it a chance and I'm so glad that I did. The book moved slowly at the beginning, but once it got going, I couldn't put it down. Twice in the last 50 pages my jaw actually dropped. I'll be reading her next, for sure.

Although it took me a little while to get the hang of it, moving between when the little girl vanishes, the lead up to it and the aftermath.....I found it gripping! And the ending.....I kept on thinking about the others who had died in the book and how.....

Not sure I agree with this - every Prime Minister we've had, male or female, is held personally responsible by the public for the decisions they make. When Tony Blair left office he was called a War Criminal, amongst many other horrible insults. Right or wrong, Maggie was a controversial leader and that had little to do with her gender and more to do with her actions.

BookishFeminist 🙄😠 honestly it's beyond me why people feel it necessary to blame someone's actions on their gender. I'm US-based but am familiar with Thatcher's politics—while I didn't agree with her ideologically, she really faced a lot of sexism. Infuriating. 8y
Martyn_J_Pass @BookishFeminist I totally agree. I'm sure she faced A LOT of sexism, but she will always be remembered for the shocking decisions and actions she took which had a huge impact on the British economy! 8y
BookishFeminist @TheBear And instead of it just tarnishing her career, it is used to tarnish the careers of many women in politics and positions of power even if they couldn't be more ideologically different. Sigh. 8y
Martyn_J_Pass @BookishFeminist Collective sigh lol. This book has had a clear, heavy handed anti-man agenda from the start and I don't mean that in a helpful, constructive way. I don't min authors using their works to promote a view point, but at least be a responsible author who thinks about statements like this. 8y
