I requested this book because Laurie R King is my favorite active mystery writer. I have read just about every one of her novels. Then this arrived and I found out it was about a school shooting 😱. And I put off reading it. But it really is more about the suspense. Small town CA, lots of characters of very different backgrounds, who may have people after them. Good suspense building. Not gory. Laurie R King did not disappoint me! #mystery

This started slowly with lots of characters points of views and different timelines. Some serious plot twists and a couple I did not see coming. I am a Laurie King fan and while this may never be my favorite of hers it was still kept me enthralled at the last 100 pages.

Starting tonight .

First-person background stories are woven into a minute-by-minute account of a middle school career day gone horribly wrong. I was only partially invested: the book itself moved slowly, and the audiobook narrator just didn't click with me. Plus there were several unresolved issues. Ultimate takeaway for me is meh, & I would hesitate to listen to another book performed by Pilar Witherspoon. Full audio review will be available thru AudioFile mag

We are all stories- little stories, blending to make larger stories, building to glorious life epics with colossal casts. Lockdown is a vibrant mosaic. Each tile, taken alone, is fascinating, but brought together they create a beautifully terrifying picture of the confluence of events that will change everyone, reader included.. Ms King has woven a rich, intricate story with beautiful language and a deep, abiding lesson- we are all connected.

I tried the Mary Russell series but was super creeped out about a very young woman and a very old Sherlock Holmes getting together. But this is a stand alone book and very good so far
