Second book I‘ve read by the author with no success. He is probably just not for me, but I don‘t really think this book is worthy of it‘s place on the #1001books list. 2⭐️

#Reading1001

BarbaraBB I am not a fan either. I can‘t even remember if I read this specific one but I did read some for the #1001books list 2y
hilded @BarbaraBB I still have at least one left by him for the 1001 list, but I am in no hurry to get to it. Thankfully they are short 😆 2y

Not off to a good start with my #TBR1001 book for the month, seems it will be many pages packed with fluff/morality. For those of you who have read it, worth prevailing or should I bail?

Ruthiella I‘ve only read The Alchemist and I hated it. 2y
hilded @Ruthiella That‘s the only one I have read by him before as well, and I didn‘t like it either. Just lots of banalities/self help advice portraited as fiction. Maybe this is best for teens? (edited) 2y

Quite philosophical. Honestly, I need a second read because I lost focus here and there. Bonus points for simple language and plain writing style, with the message being conveyed just the same!
I'd give it a 3/5 rating.

A stranger comes to the small village of Viscos. Using Miss Prym as his messenger, he makes the villagers an offer they can't refuse...or can they? This book moves quickly through the ten days as the villagers decide whether they will allow themselves to be tempted by evil. It was a fast 240 pages and I wish there would've been more turmoil shown among some of the villagers as they decide what to do. #Brazil #foodandlit @Butterfinger @texreader

These are my #foodandlit selections for January celebrating Brazil. I'll likely go through a cookbook, too, to see if there's anything I can make. I have to start the year off strong, right?!

This is a story that invokes old world story telling and philisophical debates over good v evil. When a small village is tempted to kill just one community member for a lifetime of riches, which triumphs? Is the little village as it is perceived--one of good hearts? Or is it susceptible to greed as the devil suspects? ...I just didn't care. The plot unfolded slowly and the characters were predictable.

The pace of the book is slow but with the quaint backdrop of Viscos, it's a pleasant read. It explores the existence of the eternal war between good and evil in each of us, regardless of who we are.

As Ms. Prym struggles with her dilemma, you encounter the battle happening within yourself. Just like The Alchemist, I finished the book with a feeling of awe, self-realization and a smile.

240 pages pontificating on morality. Urgh. I don't know what I had been expecting (plot?), but it wasn't this. #onestar #unpopularopinion

esurient I've been tring to mix up my reading, to select recomendations from outside of my usual places. This doesn't seem to be working well. Coelho is a hugely respected author, and I am not interested in reading another of his books. 6y
esurient This one left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm going to go read Small Gods (Pratchett) next to take it away. 6y
Briary Pratchett is an excellent antidote for Coelho, in my opinion 😁 6y

I narrowed it down, I think! 😊 I mostly just grabbed some books off my shelves that fit the page requirement and didn‘t sound like they would hit any triggers we talked about. Side note: In Year of the Hare, he does accidentally run over a rabbit but it sounds like the rabbit then becomes a sort of spirit guide to the main character...If you guys don‘t like any of these, I have PLENTY more to choose from! 😄😄
#lmpbc #round2

melyndarae I've never heard of any of them, so I'm for whatever. Although idk about the rabbit one lol. 7y
AshleyHoss820 @melyndarae 😄😄😄 I picked books that were short enough so that, if I felt there was something in there you guys would rather not read about, I had time to read something else! 😊 7y
melyndarae I just bought a Nora Roberts book that sounds really good. It may be an option. I may go look at Dollar Tree too. They sometimes have good finds plus it won't hurt as much for them to he written in. 7y

AshleyHoss820 @melyndarae Once you get the hang of it, writing in the margin isn‘t so bad! I annotated (heavily!) my copy of Infinite Jest & it was a nice, immersive way to remember what I read! 😄 7y
melyndarae I just found a book there, so I'll go through the books I have too and see what the options are for our group. 7y

#TBRtemptation post 5! A stranger arrives in the remote village of Viscos. He carries a backpack with a notebook and 11 gold bars. He seeks an answer to: are human beings essentially good or evil? The village welcomes him, unwittingly becoming accomplices to his search. A thought-provoking parable of a tempted people devoured by greed, cowardice, & fear. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

Completed this short read as an audiobook on my way home from Springfield. I know some of you don't really like Coelho's writing style, but I really enjoy it. Story-wise, this was alright but not my favorite. If you haven't read anything by Paulo Coelho yet, don't start here. (Brida might be a good choice.) But if you already like his style, this is a quick and somewhat interesting read. And good narration for the audio! #LitsyAtoZ

I really enjoyed this short novel, as a best on the temptingly tested morals of good and evil. A man arrives in an impoverished village, offering a fortune in bars of gold, in exchange for a willing act of local murder. Miss Prym becomes the spokesperson and hopeful voice of reason, with some great philosophical dialogues between her and the stranger, while the village folks debate. The tensions of the tale makes a deep read!

I love the spiritual messages Paulo Coelho tells within his story. This was supposed to be one of my four books to complete in February, but I've already read it and it's not February . . . Still a good read though.
