Another one from my bookshelf that I haven't read yet. Maybe I should put all of these books on my May TBR stack! 😂 No, because there are already 6 books on that stack and we're only 4 days into April, lol! 🤣

This book is adorable. I rather enjoyed it. Although it appears fluff, the underlying message about friendship and communication is quite real.

4⭐️— this was a really cute light hearted book. I was emotionally invested in both characters and their stories. As I mentioned before Ava‘s obsessive thoughts and anxiety hit close to home for me and put this from a 3 star book to a 4. I highly recommend especially for 16-19 year olds because it touches on a lot of stuff young adults go through and give good insight for it. Overall a great first read for 2020

Ok pt 2 sorry but all of Ava‘s emails where she is overthinking and panicking and giving reasons to stay with things that make her miserable for me perfectly shows what anxiety feels like as a mental illness at least for me and my experience with it. That is really what boosts this book for me the handling of specifically anxiety as a mental illness. It shows people the thought process and endless loop that is anxiety

Hi okay i need to talk about this book really quickly before i finish it later today. I went into this thinking it would be an average book with mediocre teenage problems and you know what it kind of is. Finding out your boyfriend kissed your friend once not having an idea of who you are are all problems people face in college, but the thing that sent this book over the edge for me was Ava and her anxiety and mental state because its relatable

There‘s something comforting about a book that tells you everything, doesn‘t play with any mysteries or language designed to make you feel small. And there‘s something comforting about this I Hate Everyone But You by Gaby Dunn and Allison Raskin. While the writing itself doesn‘t blow you away and nothing quite caught me by surprise, this true to life story about friendship and finding yourself is enjoyable and rings true. 4/5 stars.

Audiobook of the day. Easy listen, not spectacular, but not bad.
I will describe my overall feeling with a quote from 10 Things I Hate About You:

This was a super funny book and great on audio. It‘s about a friendship between to girls in college. I loved the format and the way the authors captured both characters so well through epistolary writing and texts, etc. I found this to be a lot of fun and if you love Gilmore Girls, you would probably love this as well.

I was looking for something light and found this on a Book Riot list so I gave it a go. At first I was turned off by the narration but I kept going and ended up enjoying although I don‘t think this is everyone‘s cup of tea.

The story is meaningful and this is worth a listen.

#readathon book 3. #audiobook while driving to/from a concert and knitting.
THIS BOOK IS ADORABLE. It's the story of best friends in their freshman year of college. One girl is anxiety-ridden and is attending USC film school, the other is at Emerson in Boston studying journalism and has just come out as queer. It is told through their emails and texts. The narration by the authors is PERFECT.
P.S. Longer Letter Later protagonists all grown up.

“I buried the f#$&@ing lead! Even Midwestern moms know not to do that!” Okay, as an actual Midwestern mom, I may not be the target audience of this YA book, but I have been a college freshman (albeit in a long ago era) and I have super close girlfriends, so so far, I‘m really enjoying this book. It‘s taken me a bit to get used to the book being entirely text and email driven, but so far it‘s amusing and feels real.

I kept wanting to bail on this one but decided against it every time because I was invested. They are hilarious.... but also incredibly annoying at times. I envy their friendship, and the fact that they are able to tell each other everything.

Emails and text messages between two separated best friends while they are amidst their freshmen year in college. I mostly read young adult books to be able to recommend them for the students that I teach. Dealing with drugs, alcohol, and sex, this is an age appropriate novel relating to teens.

2/5 stars
-Both girls were terribly sexist towards sororities
-UNDERAGE DRINKING IS NOT COOL
-the drugs? Gen uses drugs and they never talk about it
-they were both too young for me to relate to
-Gen expected Ava to know things about the queer community and what not to ask or say and not give her the chance to learn. Accept that Ava is ignorant and just educate her nicely
-It seemed as if Gen didn‘t care for Ava at all

This was a fast, fluffy, addictive read about teen girl friendship that was refreshing in its willingness to let the characters make mistakes and not be perfect. While it didn't have the emotional impact or depth I wanted, it was really fun to read! It was witty and quite funny. The portrayal of the character coming out as bi and poly was especially intriguing; I felt like it was interrogating some of those stereotypes and saying yeah, so what?

I usually don‘t like books written strictly in email or text format. Sometimes it can be annoying and takes away from the story. I ended up liking this book and finishing it in one day.

Despite it have some seriously heavy tones regarding sexuality and discovering yourself as a individual person, I found it light hearted and a fast pace read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

cocomass I haven‘t read any like this but I remember the fad of books published in instant messenger format when I was in high school and it always felt sort of forced... 7y

This book was a quick read, which is the only good thing I have to say about it. Telling the story of two friends away at separate colleges this book uses emails and text messages instead of prose. Unfortunately, nether of the characters were likeable, no discernible plot, and many of the jokes bordered on being really offensive. On top of that, the YouTube stars who co-wrote tried to plug their YouTube show in the middle of the book. Tacky.

Very fun look at a friendship between two college freshmen. Loved the format of emails and text conversations (which I'm sure younger readers will relate to). Although there aren't any major plot points, the book does look at serious issues like anxiety and LGBTQ themes while still injecting humor into the story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Full review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2074833798

I loved this book — I'll start there. But I was dreading the whole time the part where there's a fight and the two of them stop talking, which happens in EVERY SINGLE DAMN ONE of these kinds of epistolary books! And I thought maybe this book would be different, bc Gen and Ava had a number of small fights they got over right away. But there was a no talking part for a bit, which, you know — I hate. BUT: I still loved this & def recommend it 👩🏻‍💻
