This was a really great book of short stories. Every story involved a djinn/genie. I will have to look up some of the authors that I wasn't familiar with.

This collection of short stories about djinns took me FOREVER to read. Some stories are amazing, others are so-so, and some even feel incomplete. Hurrem and the Djinn by Claire North was probably my favorite!
This anthology features stories about djinn by an international group of authors with a variety of perspectives. Djinn as family members, lovers, outcasts, tormentors, and metaphors. Djinn in fantastical sultanates, in the modern world, in the Old West, on spaceships, and after the apocalypse.
There were a few stories that I was missing cultural background for, and a couple more that just weren't for me, but overall the collection is fantastic.

This short story collection has quite a few big name authors. I've always been intrigued by djinn, jinns, or genies and their stories in ancient cultures. This collection has some really great reads and a few that weren't my favorite. I loved the variety and the mixing of past and future. Fun collection! 💚
I really liked a couple of these stories but most of them left me confused and unsatisfied. They felt unfinished, more like story fragments than short stories.
"Necromancy is frowned on [...] in our profession." What a relief!
"Lots of djinn work in the film industry." I believe it!
The Greek Gods being considered jinns. Gods, it seems, are something totally different. A rather interesting concept. It‘s a shame this is a short story rather than a book, as I‘d love to know more about this world.
From Black Powder by Maria Dahvana Headley. A very unsettling story with some great quotes.
I nearly highlighted every third sentence in this story. So far this is an interesting, thought provoking collection.
Current read.
I've only read three stories and I've been very impressed by 2/3 of them. Looking forward to the rest.
Seen this on sale on Amazon the other day and had to grab it up.
I love Djinns, genies, those type of mythical beings. They're definitely my favorite and need to be written into more stories, for sure!
Brilliant collection of short stories related to djinn/jinn/genies. Set in the past, modern day and future; on earth and in outer space. This is not just entertaining and provocative (some are downright scary) but a great chance to read authors you might not have heard of before. https://cannonballread.com/2019/01/the-djinn-falls-in-love-and-other-stories-elc...
4 Stars.
It was a great collection. Even the “meh” ones were quality meh, and there were some really amazing stories in it.

How We Remember You, Kuzhali Manickavel
Djinn, jinn, or jean genie, this collection of stories by some fabulous authors is excellent! Open the cover, lift the lid, peek behind the curtain to see all the permutations of the nature of humans and what is perceived as the Other (meaningful in times like now): in this case illustrated by the djinn. Recommended!
I‘m not a huge fan of short stories as a general rule, but I cannot pass up this deal! $1.99 for Djinn? Yes, please!! (Kindle deal)
(and yes, I am at work and bored to tears. I apologize if I spam your feeds today)
I wanted so much more out of this collection. The majority of the stories were pretty underwhelming. A lot felt like they could've used another draft or round of edits... The few good stories in it made this even more apparent. (Also, boo on the Gaiman story just being the chapter from American Gods.)
Reviewing short story collections is tricky because some stories are quite memorable while some are...bailable. This collection is made of both. That said, I loved the premise of having a short story book all about djinns as tackled in various genres, may it be contemporary fiction, scifi and even a western. Notable ones are The Congregation by Kamila Shamsie, Glass Lights by JY Yang, Bring Your Own Spoon by Saad Hossain and Reap by Sami Shah.
Because I am away from my beloved bookshelves I don't have a stack of books for the #24in48 18 hour challenge. I do however have a science fiction anthology edited by Mahvesh Murad and containing some wonderful looking stories by diverse authors. I love me a good anthology every now and then #weneeddiversebooks
Look at those names: Neil Gaiman, Nnedi Okorafor, Helene Wecker (Golem and the Jinni)....😍 Short stories involving djinn! I don't have a magic lamp, will a muggle teapot do?
I'm cheating today. Having a Galentine Valentine party, so using my ereader to show some #lovetitles. #feistyfeb
#Netgalley and publishers are supporting my plans to read more short stories this year! (There are two more collections from Chekhov and Trollope under the ones pictured.) 😍They are my new favorite people!
