The winner of the Booker Prize 2024 is announced tomorrow.

I‘ve read 4 of the books; James, Stone Yard Devotional, Held and The Safekeep. It probably says it all that I don‘t remember Held. I would be happy if any of the other 3 wins.

Orbital is a potential DNF, if it wins I might give it another chance.

I have picked up Creation Lake at the library and will get to it in the next few weeks.

Which book do you hope will win?

charl08 James! All my fingers crossed. 1mo
jlhammar I‘m hoping James or SYD wins. Really loved both of those. The Safekeep was also fantastic so wouldn‘t be too sad if that wins instead. Held was a mixed bag for me. Some compelling bits, but overall I just liked it. Creation Lake was also only a like for me. I couldn‘t get into Orbital so may have to try again later. 1mo
squirrelbrain I‘m hoping for The Safekeep or SYD. I‘d be happy if James won too. 1mo

BarbaraBB Like @squirrelbrain I‘m hoping for The Safekeep or SYD too. Percival Everett deserves a Booker Prize for most of his books but James is not my favorite. 1mo
vlwelser I'm rooting for The Safekeep. I didn't get my hands on SYD. 1mo
Megabooks The Safekeep, but I'd be okay if James won, too. 1mo
squirrelbrain Great minds think alike! ☺️ 1mo

The Booker just announced its shortlist

I‘m shocked My Friends didn‘t make it, because I loved it

I‘m happy both James and Stone Yard Devotional made it

What do you think of the list?

Amor4Libros I‘ve only read The Safekeep and it‘s on my top 10 reads this year, I loved it so much! I‘m going to try to read a couple more from the shortlist before the winner is announced 😊 3mo
BarbaraBB I am disappointed too that My Friends didn‘t make it. But my two favorites are on there so I won‘t complain (The Safekeep and Stone Yard Devotional). 3mo
squirrelbrain What @BarbaraBB said! 😊 3mo

The Booker Longlist has just been announced.

I‘ve just bought Glory and I want to read After Sappho. There‘s also a couple of others I‘ve heard good things about, The Trees, The Colony and Nightcrawling.

Now I need to find out what my library already have.

What do you think of the list?

squirrelbrain I‘ve read the three that you‘re interested in - all wonderful! I‘ve also read 2 others, plus nearly finished another. I own another 4 or have them from the library, so only 3 to get hold of, one of which is Glory. 2y
jlhammar Very exciting! I adored the Keegan, Strout and Everett. I own The Colony and Booth so going for those next. I look forward to getting Case Study once it is out in the US (anticipated pub date Nov 1) since I enjoyed His Bloody Project quite a bit. 2y
sarahbarnes I‘m excited! Just started Colony last night and have a few others from the library. I‘m happy to see Trees on here! 2y

BarbaraBB I‘m super excited too! I loved The Trees and Oh William and have Night Crawling on my shelves. But I am now eager to read them all! 2y
AnneCecilie @squirrelbrain You are well on your way to having read the longlist. Then I really have something to look forward to. 2y
AnneCecilie @jlhammar I‘m on the waiting list at the library for Keegan. Isn‘t Stout part of a series? I hope to get hold of Everett. I didn‘t know that Case Study is by the same author as His Blood Project, I‘m quite neutral to that so what rush out to read Case Study then. Unless I see a lot a rave reviews 2y
AnneCecilie @sarahbarnes That‘s exciting, I always love to see some love for books I want to read (The Trees) 2y
AnneCecilie @BarbaraBB There seems to be a lot of love for The Trees. Isn‘t Oh William part of a series? I‘m not sure about Nightcrawling, I think it‘s going to be a tough read. 2y
jlhammar @AnneCecilie Yes, the Strout is part of the Amgash series. It can be read alone, but I think it best to read My Name is Lucy Barton (#1) and Anything is Possible (#2) first. And then we‘ll have Lucy By the Sea (#4) soon (out Sept 20 in US)! Hope you enjoy Small Things Like These and The Trees as much as I did! 2y

The Booker Longlist has just been announced.

I haven‘t read any of these.

Lanny is on my staycation tbr so I‘ll guess I start with that. I notice that both My Sister, The Serial Killer and Lost Children Archive from the Women‘s Prize for Fiction Longlist have made it to this Longlist as well. I‘ve had both on my radar since then, maybe now I‘ll finally get to them? Other than that I‘ve heard of some of these, and some are completely new to me.

Redwritinghood I‘ve read the two that were on the Women‘s Prize longlist, but many of these aren‘t available yet. 5y
Suet624 Hmmm... I had no idea it had been announced. I thought I was on their mailing list. Thanks for letting me know. 5y
AnneCecilie @Suet624 happy to spread the news 😊 5y
AnneCecilie @Redwritinghood I thought it was just 3 that wasn‘t published yet? Are there more? 5y
Redwritinghood @AnneCecilie I‘m in the US, so it‘s more here. I ordered some from Book Depository. 5y

I guess I have to read the Auster now. The others I did read. I am not too happy about the result... I am missing some personal favourites! #manbookershortlist

Abailliekaras Oh wow I didn't realise it was out! Interesting ..... 7y
Abailliekaras Ps I'm not rushing to read the Auster, let me know if you do and what you think. 7y
Cinfhen Ahhh, I was waiting! Interesting selections. Which book were u hoping to see that wasn't listed?!? 7y
See All 21 Comments
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen I loved Home Fire, Reservoir 13 and The Ministry of Utmost Happiness, all of which didn't make it! 7y
Cinfhen I've read 2 and still own & have to read 7y
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen I think that'll be this year's winner! But I am usually wrong 😉 7y
Cinfhen From this list I agree...which means I should bump it up my TBR 7y
quietlycuriouskate I haven't read *any* of them yet because I'm waiting on Overdrive. (But maybe those not shortlisted will come round more quickly now.) 7y
susanw I've only read Lincoln in the Bardo, but I'm starting the Fridland today, and own most of the others. 7y
BarbaraBB @susanw Lots of good reading ahead in any case. I read them all, except for the Auster. 7y
merelybookish Ive read 3/6. Not sure I can bring myself to read the Auster... 7y
BarbaraBB @merelybookish I am not looking forward to it either, although I always like Auster. This one doesn't appeal somehow. 7y
Reviewsbylola The only one I've read is Exit West and I hated it. 7y
Kitta I was surprised too, I was sure the Arubdhati Roy would win. 7y
BarbaraBB @Reviewsbylola Oh really? Most of the times we do like the same books, but I liked Exit West a lot. 7y
BarbaraBB @Kitta It should have been at least shortlisted, I agree! 7y
Reviewsbylola The fantasy elements threw me off and I didn't care for his writing style either. I would have bailed if it hadn't been so short. 7y
BarbaraBB @Reviewsbylola I loved that one. And his style. I wonder what you would think of that one! 7y
Reviewsbylola No I haven't read that. I'm a little hesitant because I wonder if I just don't like his style. 7y
