WINNER- The ABIA Award (General Fiction Book of the Year) 2015 WINNER- The ABIA Award (The Matt Richell Award for New Writer) 2015 Shortlisted for the Indie Book Awards 2015 (Best Debut Fiction Book) Shortlisted for The Australian Booksellers Association (ABA) Nielsen BookData Booksellers Choice Award 2015 The heart-warming Australian debut that's been sold around the world will have you laughing, crying, and, by the end, feeling just a little wiser... At seven years old, Millie Bird realises that everything is dying around her. She wasn't to know that after she had recorded twenty-seven assorted creatures in her Book of Dead Things her dad would be a Dead Thing, too. Agatha Pantha is eighty-two and has not left her house since her husband died. She sits behind her front window, hidden by the curtains and ivy, and shouts at passers-by, roaring her anger at complete strangers. Until the day Agatha spies a young girl across the street. Karl the Touch Typist is eighty-seven when his son kisses him on the cheek before leaving him at the nursing home. As he watches his son leave, Karl has a moment of clarity. He escapes the home and takes off in search of something different. Three lost people needing to be found. But they don't know it yet. Millie, Agatha and Karl are about to break the rules and discover what living is all about. '[an] enchanting debut... Lost & Found is a highly entertaining road trip and much, much more...bubbling with warmth and humour, it also explores loss, death, love and trust' - The West Australian 'heartbreaking and funny and brilliant' - Herald Sun 'a lovely, whimsical story' - Good Reading

In the few months since I‘ve finished this book, I‘ve thought of Karl, Millie and Agatha often. Unique friendships, quirky characters and astute observations from a child‘s perspective make this story a special universe.

One of my favorite lines: “A fact about the world Millie knows for sure: Everyone knows everything about being born, and no one knows anything about being dead.”

A patron found this in a library book

GingerAntics Aww I want to hug this person. It's oddly true, though. 6y

I've always been a sucker for a quirky book.

HeidiCatherine I really, really loved this book! I bought it at a charity shop and discovered later it was a signed copy 😍 7y

I‘m convinced more than ever that all I need is 20 or so books and all I need to do is read them one after the other then start again! Seems I read this book in 2014! Reading it again I had no memory of it. Though at times a slight niggling that maybe I had read it before! 😊. Anyway a good read. Found it in an op shop , my original copy long gone. It was around 2014 that I decided not to keep books. @MrsMalaprop

I had high hopes for this one , but I just couldn‘t care about the characters in this book. The child was too smart and too naive , the elderly characters were too eccentric and the ending was too sudden and too contrived. Maybe if I hadn‘t read this at work on my lunch breaks ?

I was not impressed. Some parts of the book are really poetic and then it switches radically to a different writing style. I feel like the author wrote this in spurts and never bothered to unify the writing. I am reading books on elders for a project, so I'm glad this does have elder characters but I was hoping for a more complete story from this book. It does address masculinity and a bit of abandonment but not in a creative or interesting way.

TricksyTails The art in the background is so cool! 7y

There is a lot to be said for judging a book by its cover! This pretty book contains an equally sweet story, complete with my favourite curmudgeonly character of 2015. (Ove obviously wins that title for 2016!) And it's set in Australia! #booktober #debutnovels @RealLifeReading

An Australian novel about grief that's funny and sweet without being saccharine. Viewpoint switches between three main characters, done with three voice actors in the delightful audio recording.

Penny_LiteraryHoarders What a great cover! Loved this book! 8y
Lindy @Penny_LiteraryHoarders It's a screen grab from Hachette Australia's book trailer: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9YKjCbwbmcc 8y

Penny_LiteraryHoarders Did you read The Trouble With Goats and Sheep? There were some similarities in style and wonderful ways with words - glad I gave myself space between 2 so could enjoy both so much! 8y

Only 50 pages left in Lindy West's brilliant Shrill, but I'm taking a break with something sweet: two lonely oldsters and a small lost girl team up on a road trip in Australia.

Penny_LiteraryHoarders I adored this read. 8y
Lindy @Penny_LiteraryHoarders My sister recommended this. It's hitting all the right notes for my current mood, post extended-family gathering. 8y

What a lovely book about unusual friendships, growing up, and growing old. Told from three different perspectives, the story stays interesting throughout as you learn more about the characters and their past.

A fun little book about a 7-yr old girl who embarks on a journey, with the help of two octogenarians, to find her mother who has abandoned her.
