Alive
Alive: Book One of the Generations Trilogy | Scott Sigler
32 posts | 43 read | 43 to read
For fans of The Hunger Games, Divergent, and Red Rising comes a gripping sci-fi adventure in which a group of teenagers wake up in a mysterious corridor with no knowledge of who they are or how they got trapped. Their only hope lies with an indomitable young woman who must lead them not only to answers but to survival. I open my eyes to darkness. Total darkness. I hear my own breathing, but nothing else. I lift my head . . . it thumps against something solid and unmoving. There is a board right in front of my face. No, not a board . . . a lid. A teenage girl awakens to find herself trapped in a coffin. She has no idea who she is, where she is, or how she got there. Fighting her way free brings little reliefshe discovers only a room lined with caskets and a handful of equally mystified survivors. Beyond their room lies a corridor filled with bones and dust, but no people . . . and no answers. She knows only one thing about herselfher name, M. Savage, which was engraved on the foot of her coffinyet she finds herself in charge. She is not the biggest among them, or the boldest, but for some reason the others trust her. Now, if theyre to have any chance, she must get them to trust one another. Whatever the truth is, she is determined to find it and confront it. If she has to lead, she will make sure they survive. Maybe theres a way out, a rational explanation, and a fighting chance against the dangers to come. Or maybe a reality they cannot comprehend lies just beyond the next turn. Praise for Alive Suspenseful . . . [Alive] lives up to its hype, packing plenty of thrills.Entertainment Weekly Fascinating and intriguing . . . a cross between Lord of the Flies and The Maze Runner and yet . . . so much more.Fresh Fiction A ripping, claustrophobic thunderbolt of a novel, Scott Siglers Alive gives us an unforgettable young hero who must find the inner strength to lead without knowing where she is, who she is, and how bitterly the odds are stacked against her.Pierce Brown, New York Times bestselling author of Red Rising Sigler has created a wonderful and engrossing character in M. Savage. Strong and smart, but with the navet and misgivings of any teenage girl, shes someone youll definitely want on your side when s*** hits the fan, which it most certainly does.Veronica Belmont, host of Sword & Laser A tense, unsettling page-turner of a storyboth deeply strange and wildly compelling.Cherie Priest, author of Boneshaker and Maplecroft From the first page I was hooked. The puzzle unfolds masterfully, right down to the last page.Dr. Phil Plait, author of Bad Astronomy From the Hardcover edition.

I think my biggest issue with this is up there in my last bullet point. Why did they have to be 12…it was just overly awkward to me. To be honest, though, I probably would‘ve liked this more if I had read it back when it came out. Although…since I enjoyed the narration so much, I might try the second book and see if it gets better or at least less awkward. The narration by the Graphic Audio Team was fantastic.

@aroc I'm sending the book to you. I'm moving at the end of the month, so I hurried up and read before things get too crazy. It will be there by the 10th.
@Lovesbooks87 Because of the move I might have to give you my new address depending on when you send the book. My lease is over on the 30th so I'll be moving then.
@EH2018
Thank you all. I've really enjoyed this. It was a lot of fun.

I didn't love this book but I also didn't hate it. I felt like most of the book I was a little bit confused at what was happening. It did have some pretty good twist that I didn't see coming. I don't want to give too much away because it is a #LMPBC book.

For an “adjective” in the 2018 Eclectic Readers Mad Libs Reading Challenge I picked Alive by Scott Silver. I acquired a hardback copy at a library book sale quite a while back. Looking forward to finally cracking it open as part of this reading challenge. #ERMadLibs #ScottSigler #scifi #ya #youngadult

BillBlume On a side note, is it wrong that every time I see the title to this book, I hear Ricardo Montalban‘s Khan from “Star Trek II” saying, “Aliiiiiiive.” 7y

I have to agree with other reviewers when they say the less you know about this book the better, makes writing a review damn tricky. a book with a wonderfully constructed story line with a twist I simply did not see coming. The comparsions to the Maze runner are not unfounded but this is a unique book. So for those of you that don't read books that are compared to other books - you know who you are - pick this book up now it will not disappoint.

My initial plan for curing my #bookhangover was to reread all of the Tom Robbins books that are gathering dust on my shelves. However, when I saw The Joy Luck Club, I remembered that it was my #LitsyAtoZ pick for J. These two are also on my list, so once I finished Amy Tan's beautiful book, I decided to read my choice for S, Alive by Scott Sigler. After that, I'm hoping to finally read The Girl on the Train for the letter G.

ptkpepe98 Sounds like a good plan. I have 4 books left on my challenge. I never thought I might run out of time, but I keep getting distracted by shinier, prettier covers.🤗😉 7y
RealBooks4ever Sigler blows my mind! 💜😬 7y

I really enjoyed this book it got me out of a pretty nasty reading slump and had some pretty great plot twists. I know two books are out and there is either a third coming or already out.

Kind of excited about this Daily Deal. YA science-fiction where teens wake up, emerge from coffins, and have no idea where they are.

This YA series about Em and her band of survivors is wickedly fast-paced (Scott Sigler knows how to bring it!) and filled with suspense and some really horrifying moments. It takes place- wait- I don't want to tell you where it takes place! But it's not on Earth! For a very fast, fun and creepy read, you can find out. Fear the spear! @scottsigler #FunPhotoFriday

The first half of this book is a very clever retelling of The Lord of the Flies (isolated kids, formation of society, power struggle, a specific object the leader carries, there's even a pig...) nestled within a hard SF-like dystopia. An excellent ending to this book while leaving room to wonder where/how next book will start. But there's the hint of a love triangle (bleah), some of the dialogue felt stilted, & I wanted more "hard SF" than I got.

BethFishReads Humm I have these books so will likely read. Bummed about the love triangle 8y
balletbookworm @BethFishReads it's only really a hint (for now) but I feel like he could have done way more in a much different way 8y
BethFishReads I'll probably give it a try 8y
CherylDeFranceschi The second book does a really good job at world building. 8y

My son and I really enjoyed Alive. He was hooked from the first chapter and I found that it is a great book to read aloud. (Not surprising since @scottsigler narrates all his books for his website)

Jed can't wait to start Alight but my library does not have it. Now to decide if I want to request the library purchase it, order the hardback, pre-order the paperback or purchase the ebook...
