The Girl with Glass Feet
The Girl with Glass Feet: A Novel | Ali Shaw
20 posts | 31 read | 40 to read
An inventive and richly visual novel about young lovers on a quest to find a cure for a magical ailment, perfect for readers of Alice Hoffman Strange things are happening on the remote and snowbound archipelago of St. Hauda's Land. Unusual winged creatures flit around the icy bogland, albino animals hide themselves in the snow-glazed woods, and Ida Maclaird is slowly turning into glass. Ida is an outsider in these parts, a mainlander who has visited the islands only once before. Yet during that one fateful visit the glass transformation began to take hold, and now she has returned in search of a cure. Midas Crook is a young loner who has lived on the islands his entire life. When he meets Ida, something about her sad, defiant spirit pierces his emotional defenses. As Midas helps Ida come to terms with her affliction, she gradually unpicks the knots of his heart. Love must be paid in precious hours and, as the glass encroaches, time is slipping away fast. Will they find a way to stave off the spread of the glass? The Girl with Glass Feet is a dazzlingly imaginative and magical first novel, a love story to treasure.

2/5
There is some beautiful descriptive writing in here. However, unfortunately, that‘s all the positive I can think of for this. The main characters were not relatable at all. In fact, they were super frustrating and one-dimensional. I wanted more character development or any type of explanation to the magical elements, but none ever came. Sucks because the premise seemed so promising.

Just opened my #happilyeverafterswap package after a lovely Valentine‘s Day of skiing 🎿⛷💛
Thank you so much @bullbunny !! All I can say is we definitely have the Hufflepuff mindset when it comes to fairy tales! I‘ve been wanting to read the Girl with Glass Feet for awhile and I‘ve always loved Hans Christian Anderson‘s stories. The mermaid photo is amazing, I can‘t thank you enough!!
Plus...Bug loved the box you provided for his amusement. 😘

bullbunny I am so glad that the big cup made it, I was worried but I don't see the thing I made for you *confused. Glad you like everything ^^ 6y
Julies_Bookshelf_Adventures @bullbunny that was me forgetting to put it in the picture, lol. 😅 I absolutely love the purse and am definitely going to use it next time I go anywhere. Thank you again! 🧜🏼‍♀️ 6y

A solid good read more than a so so but not a pick either and that perhaps makes your toes tingle involuntarily! The story follows through to the final conclusion, which was a pleasure as I was seriously suspecting it wouldn't.

In honor of the first snowfall of the year and the first real snow since I've moved to North Carolina 4 years ago, that I'm going to miss, I'm doing day 6 as #dreamingofacolderclimate A wintery book with snowfall on the cover.

I really need to repaint the deck this summer.

Hobbinol I'm hunkering down in NC too! Can't wait for the snow to start! (And I need to work on my deck this coming summer too😆) 8y
vicgreentoriafield @Hobbinol I'm missing it! A year or so ago we got 1 inch and it was the end or the world. I would have loved to see it this time. Hope there's more! 8y

This one has been sitting on my #tbr pile for so long. Going nicely with the winter weather finally feeling like December outside and likelihood of snow tomorrow.

MrGirandoleAndMe Started this one, but didn't finish. I couldn't get into the characters, though maybe it just wasn't the right time to read this one. Fully intend to revisit it though 😊 8y
Lindisfarne I read this a couple of years ago now, but loved it. I'll have to look it up and reread now. 8y
