I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it. Some will be old, some will be new - don't judge me, I have a lot of books.

I just loved this book. I had no idea it was based on a true story until I‘d gotten into it a bit.
Has anyone seen the movie? I‘m looking forward to watching it soon.

It‘s really fun to be reading a No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency book that I haven‘t read before 😊. And The Danish Girl is good so far, just a chapter or so in.
I‘m only guessing on what‘s up next this week, as it depends on a library hold and whether the mail is moving at a good pace 🤷♀️.
I‘m looking forward to starting this book. I did enjoy The 19th Wife by this author. I always meant to see the movie of tagged book ... but maybe it‘s better to read first , I hope it‘s good 🤞🏻
Sitting on my partially built deck! Listening to a Cooper‘s Hawk perched in the fir tree above our hen coop, hoping she is hunting mice and not chickens. 😬😬. And I think I liked the movie more than the tagged book.
Beautiful book about the power of love. The writing is evocative and the compassion from Greta is inspiring.
This story is based on a true story, and I'd love to read a nonfiction account of Lilli's life.
I'm using this one for #Denmark for #ReadingEurope2020. @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB
Oh, I used to listen to #OriginOfLove on repeat - and, I sat in the pit for the musical! My thoughts went to the tagged book and the necessity to discover, love, and respect your unique self.

I read on Wikipedia about Lili Elbe whose life seems to have been inspiration for the book. And I stick with my opinion that the „topic“ is really interesting and that I‘d love to know the story. Since my main issue with the book was the writing style I will give the film a try when I run across it. (I missed it in the cinemas. 🤷🏽♀️)
Sorry. I‘m unable to get engaged with this. Maybe it‘s because of me but I can‘t focus on the „main story“. I simply don‘t find one because every chapter I read jumped to another time or life episode. So I lost my interest fast. And the author‘s humble writing style to me seems to be an effect or a means to show how important the issue is and how tolerant his characters are and how sensitive his protagonist is. 🙄
No, thanks, I feel manipulated.
I am not far in yet: about 30 pages.
But I don‘t know if it‘s for me. I already like Greta because she is very open-minded and understanding towards Einar. Something that I wouldn‘t have expected in the 1920‘s. But at the same time I find the kind of susurrant writing-style tiring. It stretches things like syrup and induces that everything that happens is equally important.
If you understand what I mean❓
At the moment, I‘m fighting. 😟
This one next. At a #BookishGoal of 66.
Reading this book‘s title always puzzles me because I try and try but can‘t remember if this is the book/film that my former physiotherapist has raved about to me years ago …
This book took me longer to read than most books as it was more drawn out then I usually like so I found it hard to focus for long intervals. This book drew me in many times, and then I would find myself being untethered. Being someone who doesn‘t like to leave a book unfinished I found the process of reading this daunting at times.
It has standout moments and many of the descriptions are lovely but I found it overall dry and far too slow.
This book is loosely based on the true story of Lili Elbe, a Danish transgender woman and one of the first identifiable recipients of sex reassignment surgery. Elbe was born Einar Wegener and was a successful artist under that name. She was also married when she decided to have the surgery. This book explores the question of what really makes a marriage when one partner grapples with his/her sexual identity.
Look at this Loot! You spoilt me rotten!
“Lili was an artist—her greatest creation was herself.”
• 4 ⭐️ Finally finished!! I‘m so glad to have read this beautiful love story. Read this book to expand your emotional experience and understand how other people live and love. And then watch Eddie Redmayne‘s wonderful performance in the movie. It‘s a worthwhile journey... •
This is a fascinating and heartwarming story about the meaning of unconditional love and self-acceptance. Unfortunately I didn‘t enjoy “The Danish Girl” enough to award it more than three stars but am still glad that I read it. Perhaps I‘ll enjoy the film a little more.
My full review is up on my blog 📚

Not by a woman but ABOUT an amazing woman: Lily Elbe ❤️ HOWEVER, I have to say I was not a fan of this book after seeing the movie first. The movie is SO SO lovely but I didn't feel the same from the story told in the novel; it was slow and not inspiring. The cast really bring these characters to life - do yourself a favor and just watch the movie.

Just to let you know: I think this is my favourite book, ever. 💫
Who else is participating in the #24in48 readathon? This is my first time participating and I‘m excited to see how many books I actually get through. I have seven that I‘ve gathered together for the weekend, so we‘ll see how I do. Candle by @novellyyours
Perks of a flight attendant, working a flight to Seattle that gets you in early enough to enjoy a good book and brunch at your new favorite haunt for cider, Capitol Cider. #saturdaybrunch #amreading #flightattendantlife
Beautifully written book based on a true story about a young artist struggling with his identity. This was stunningly written and Ebershoff's descriptions of some scenes in the book are soothing and almost melodic. The end broke my heart and left me thinking about little Lili for days afterwards but the message the book conveys is beautiful - always be the truest version of yourself... 4/5
I chose this book because it is about a true story of a transgender woman. #san_32
Dresden counts as Eastern Europe, right? I'm sorely lacking in books about the eastern parts of the continent. 😅😣🌍 #setineasterneurope #uncannyoctober
This movie was really emotional to me. So what do I do? Buy the book, of course 📖
Could not stop thinking about this book, the character of einer/lilie really drew me in. Especially the fact it was based on a true story. I struggled to understand Greta's relationship with einer/lilie she almost seemed like a protective older sister. Gives an insite into what it must be like for people struggling with their sexuality.
At the so-so end of a pick, this one. It's a good story and I cared about Einar/Lili but (maybe the cover blurb misled me here) I was expecting more about how Greta and their marriage had to change, too. Also, I didn't want high drama and bucket loads of gush but it was all so emotionally cool that it felt strangely detached and flat. Throughout I was aware of reading about the characters rather than being drawn into their world for a while.
"Greta didn't say anything. She felt as if someone were explaining the rules of a new parlour game: she was listening and nodding but actually thinking to herself, I hope I understand this better once the game begins."
So there you have it, dear littens: my default approach to life in general.
I met my daughter from work this afternoon and between the library and the bookshop *this* happened. (Nice eclectic mix, though, don't you think?) #bookhaul
This book was a big letdown. It could have been SO MUCH MORE and yet the characters were unlikeable, the relationships odd and unrealistic, and it was extremely disappointing for me. I had high hopes!

Liked it a lot. First heard of this book when I saw the movie trailer. Has anyone seen the movie? What did you think? #audiobook #audiobooks #awesomeaudiobooks #lgbt #lgbtq #trans #transbooks #historicalfiction #booktomovie #bookstomovies
"And wasn't that the inexhaustible struggle for Greta? Her perpetual need to be alone but always loved, and in love." -David Ebershoff, The Danish Girl
This is what I call a "feeling book" - it gets under your skin, words aren't sufficent.
I loved the story about Einar and Gerda and how she supported his need to become the woman he really was. This year a museum in Denmark had an exhibition with artwork from both Einar and Gerda Wegener, and now I am thrilled to own my very own piece of art by Gerda Wegener 😍
So, I didn't like this book.
There were a few bits that made me continue, but I found the characters very unlikeable and 2-dimensional.
I did however find the story intriguing and would be interested in reading more LGBTQ focused books (not something I have read much of previously), especially in relation to gender reassignment and it's progression.

3/5⭐ A bit disappointing but still a pick for me 🙌 I was expecting this book to focus more on the relationship between Greta and Einar/Lili, and the effects of their situation on Greta. We do get bits of her perspective but I don't feel as if her deeper preoccupations are voiced. The movie was outstanding, though. The actors add the extra emotion I felt was missing in the novel 😔
I have started reading this during free time at work, and I'm not too sure how I feel yet.
I am loving the idea, but I'm not feeling overly attached to the characters. I just don't understand Greta at all, and swing between feeling like she cares for her husband and finding her incredibly unlikeable.
The writing style is odd, but seems to sweep along nicely, so hopefully it picks up a little 🙂
New weekend read! I adored the movie so so so much but I've been reading mixed reviews about the book.. It's good so far, though😍
Because lately I have been THIRSTY for Eddie Redmayne. Like. Hooooooly Crow.
This month's mission should I choose to accept it. I mean book club book to read.

Etwas weniger. Riechst du sie nicht? Ihr Parfüm?“
[…]
Greta wusste nicht, was sie sagen sollte, sie wusste nicht, was ihr Mann von ihr erwartete. „Kommt sie wieder?“
„Nur wenn du es willst“, sagte Einar, ihr den Rücken zuwendend.
