A superb science fiction adventure set in the rubble of a ruined universe, this is a deep space heist story of kidnap, betrayal, alien artifacts and revenge. The galaxy has seen great empires rise and fall. Planets have shattered and been remade. Amongst the ruins of alien civilizations, building our own from the rubble, humanity still thrives. And there are vast fortunes to be mad, if you know where to find them... Captain Rackamore and his crew do. It's their business to find the tiny, enigmatic worlds which have been hidden away, booby-trapped, surrounded by layers of protection - and to crack them open for the ancient relics and barely-remembered technologies inside. But while they ply their risky trade with integrity, not everyone is so scrupulous. Adrana and Fura Ness are the newest members of Rackamore's crew, signed on to save their family from bankruptcy. Only Rackamore has enemies, and there might be more waiting for them in space than adventure and fortune: the fabled and feared Bosa Sennen in particular. Revenber is a science fiction adventure story set in the rubble of our solar system in the dark, distant future - a tale of space pirates, buried treasure, and phantom weapons, of unspeakable hazards and single-minded heroism... and of vengeance...

I've heard lots of good things about the author. Friends recommended this book.

It's such a hot mess that I don't even know where to begin. The dialogue is clunky. The world-building is ??? The MC is a 17 y/o know-it-all in a world full of dumb adults. Lots of unnecessary 'pirate-y' language. And so much more.

I'm actually really sorry I gave it to my son for his birthday. 🙈

Space pirates and found families are two tropes I adore, so I was so disappointed when this turned out to be a hot mess of a book. Unlikeable characters, huge holes in both the world building and the plot, and the teenage protagonist‘s fake pirate-y accent irritated the shit out of me. Luckily his adult books are much, much better.

#TBRPile 📚 Found families are one of my fave themes so looking forward to this sci-fi. I really enjoyed The Prefect so hoping for good things!

This was a solid story with interesting worldbuilding but it didn‘t really drag me in. At times I was a little frustrated with it because it felt more like it was setting things up for the next book rather than standing on its own. I also didn‘t really connect with any of the characters but it‘ll be interesting to see how their stories continue.

Chosen because it was nominated for the 2018 PKD award.

Listened to an hour and it's mindless fluff without any fun or novelty to make it palatable. Perhaps it picks up but the high number of 1 star reviews suggests otherwise. Life is too short for another 14 hours.

Surprisingly good 😁 Let‘s hope this is going to be a series, because the universe is really interesting.

speljamr Alastair Reynolds is one of my absolute favorite authors! 7y
Maike @speljamr it‘s the first of his books that I‘ve read and I really liked his style. What would be a good starting point to dig into some of his other books? 7y
speljamr @Maike Start with the Revelation Space books. Pushing Ice is also a really good stand-alone book. And I hear he may do another in the Pushing Ice universe. 7y

Well this was a good book once I got into it. A mix of Reynolds trademark hard science fiction with a pirate tale. In a far distant future, in a solar system which may or may not be our own, in which society has risen and fallen many times, two sisters with a special gift sign onto a space ship seeking turn around their family fortune. What follows is a tale of adventure, treasure hunting, dread pirates and as the title states revenge.

The only sad thing is that this universe is far too interesting. I want to know more about the worlds, how they were created etc.
Does anyone know if there will be a sequel?

The blurb at the back promises this "....A tale of space pirates, buried treasure and phantom weapons, of unspeakable hazards and single-minded heroism...
And of vengeance..."

I've only read Chapter 1 so far but I can tell I'm going to love this!

Also, I'm usually reading multiple books so these are the others I'm currently reading ?

Picture a blend of far future science fiction and Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island in its book and movie forms. Then you'll be close to Revenger. It's not deep, big idea science fiction, but it's a well-crafted adventure story. With space pirates.

The focus in this book is more on the story than hard sci-fi. I enjoyed this little one off adventure. #sciencefiction #scifi

This one is proving to be a disappointing read. I mean I was expecting space pirates and Firefly vibes but it's just flat. I can't motivate myself to pick it back up!

Listened on audio, narrated by Claire Corbett. Set in space, 2 sisters run away from their father onto a ship. There's space pirates, loot, aliens & a quest for revenge.

I really enjoyed the narration. I liked all the voices Claire used in her narration. I would definitely go back to another book narrated by her.

I thought the world building was very imaginative, although I did think some of the plot was a little obvious. I still enjoyed it.
