Meditations from the Mat
Meditations from the Mat: Daily Reflections on the Path of Yoga | Katrina Kenison, Rolf Gates
12 posts | 5 read | 22 to read
AN ANCHOR BOOKS ORIGINAL As more and more people in the West pursue yoga in its various forms, whether at traditional centers, in the high-powered atmosphere of sports clubs, or on their own, they begin to realize that far from being just another exercise routine, yoga is a discipline of the body and the mind. The 365 meditations incluided in this book offer a way to integrate the mindfulness that yoga teaches into everyday life. Whether used in the morning to set the tone for the day, during yoga exercise itself, or at the end of the day, during evening reflection, Meditations from the Mat will support and enhance anyones yoga journey. From the Trade Paperback edition.

I started day one in this book of 365 yoga meditations. This is probably the closest thing I‘ve got to a resolution for the new year.

I am really enjoying rounding out my yoga practice with this series of brief essays from Rolf Gates. Hopefully, I can get back into the flow and be reading five of these a week! #yogaeverydamnday #breathe

Pairing my return to the mat with readings from this book of brief meditations on the nature of yoga. Thank you to Rebecca Schinsky of @bookriot for this rec on one of their podcasts! Any litsy yoga buddies out there?

Erinreadsthebooks I just picked this one up last week after doing yoga for the first time in a long time. Because I know I need more yoga, I figured some yoga-ish reading couldn't hurt. 8y

#AprilBookShowers #ThoughtProvoking

I started this book of daily meditations on January 1st and I have been absolutely loving these well curated daily doses of yoga sutra.

Crinoline_Laphroaig That was my ongoing read year before last. Really enjoyed it. Also want to read 8y
Lmstraubie This is a great book!!! A nice focus for each day. 8y

#funfridayphoto These two books contain a meditation for each day of the year, so they each took me one year to read. I read Meditations from the Mat in 2015 and Meditations on Intention and Being last year. Unfortunately, these are the only books he's written so I don't have anything similar for this year ☹️.

Not sure if this counts, since I'm in the process now. But, I'm taking this book as recommended: one entry per day for a year. So far, I'm loving it!!

Kpiper I just got my copy of this one but haven't started it yet. 8y

@mcipher I wish I knew a way to add this to our comment thread (as it doesn't have to do with books). Thought you might appreciate this 😂😂😂✌

SuperPunkNinja So much yes! 8y
mcipher @lmstraubie OMG so perfect!!! ?? True story- one morning I was trying to meditate my husband came in to ask me something and I snarled "Can't you see I'm f$&@ing meditating???!!!!" Very meanly and not at all zen-ly. ? 8y
night_shift I don't meditate. I do yoga sometimes. But otherwise, yes. So much yes. 8y
Lmstraubie @mcipher 😂😂😂 And THAT is why we meditate!!! 8y
mcipher @lmstraubie I'll let you know when it starts working... 😝 8y

#slowread This book begs to be taken slowly. One meditation for each day of the year & then start again. #readjanuary @RealLifeReading

mcipher This sounds awesome. I'm trying so hard to meditate more again. Day 3 in a row today. 👍 8y
Lmstraubie @mcipher Yay you! 👏👏👏 You are very dedicated. It really is such an important practice. Alas I have fallen off my meditation cushion, but remembering this book is the incentive I need to get back on! ✌ 8y
mcipher @lmstraubie It's so hard to keep doing it - and then you stop and remember why you started (me=crazy person without mediation). 😂 8y
slategreyskies This is one of my favorite books! :) 8y

The first of two book Mail hauls expected in 2017, but ordered on 2016. Excited to spend the new year with yoga meditations.

MyNamesParadise There's a documentary called Putin's Way that was produced by Frontline that is fascinating and scary about how Putin came to power... 8y
Well-ReadNeck @MyNamesParadise oooooh! I'll check it out. Thanks! 8y
AmyG You will NEED that yoga book after you finish the Putin book. ;) 8y

Everyone at my yoga class this morning was so distraught about the election that, in a class that's usually pretty vigorous, we spent most of 90 minutes just laying on the floor. We could all use some of Rolf Gates' messages of compassion and loving-kindness right now. 🕉

8leagueboot Thank goodness for yoga in times like these 🙏 8y
Redwritinghood @8leagueboot Yes, yoga, along with wine and chocolate, helps keep me sane. 8y
