I enjoyed this comic. The art is beautiful, and the characters and premise are interesting. I love Boetema's world-jumping spirit travel ability. Overall, I wanted something more from this book. It feels incomplete.

The story is interesting, but is very hard to follow. Everything comes together in the end, however the story is constantly jumping from one point to another. It‘s a one off not a series, and I think it would have done better as a series. Somethings are so drawn out the are not easy to understand, and others so very short that I wish the authors had taken more time to explore.

The concept of this graphic novel is way out there. This girl and her brother are fending for themselves bc their parents had to leave to make money elsewhere. And the girl starts having dreams where she is inside an alien's body! Different aliens and different planets every dream. The story picks up from there. Very interesting and different art style. Hoping for a sequel soon!
This was cute. It took me a bit to get in to but I really enjoyed the later half.

4/5⭐ I loved the beginning. I want SO MUCH MORE of the worlds Boetema travels to. Afar really needs to be a series to truly explore everything introduced here: the worlds, the family relationship, the whole thing with Abrinet and Gorges, etc. The conclusion felt shoehorned at the end because they needed to wrap it up within one volume. But it's definitely worth a read. #blackathon
The art in Afar is amazing and beautiful. I liked the story but it seemed a little rushed and/or under developed in places. Some of the conversation was awkward. The other world travel was fun and interesting but at times very short. The main character, Boetema (my favorite) seems to be one of the only characters with critical thinking skills.
The cover of this comic is amazing and the premise sounded quite interesting but it is way too brief and surface level. The relationship between Boetema and her brother Inotu is the shining point but the plot and the astral projection elements are not developed at all.
Leila del Duca is predominantly an artist but I think she has potential as a writer if she focuses her attention on developing story rather than just having an interesting concept.
Started off this rainy Sunday at a library book sale and now I'm snuggled up on the couch with a nice little fire going, enjoying one of my finds. I did not have a lot of luck at this sale (I rarely do because my tastes are not in line with most people in East TN) but I picked up another addition to my suddenly growing #Afrofuturism collection! Also, YAY for diverse comic books!
The art is this is SO gorgeous and while I loved the astral projection plot line, the one on Bo's home planet was lackluster with weird pacing, bumping this down to a so-so.

Decided to hit up B&N's Image B2G1 sale, and also picked up a $3 pillow I couldn't say no to. #belaboringthepoint #comicshaul
The cover is gorgeous. Many of the character designs are gorgeous. Unfortunately that's where the positives stop. The writing is cliché-ridden, fourth-grade max, the characters are whiny and illogical, and no, combining two lame stories does not make one good one.
Y'all, this graphic novel is stunning! The art is beautiful and the world building is spectacular! An Image graphic novel that is appropriate for YA. A must read for sure!
#readathon book 1 is complete. Total read time = 45 minutes!
The artwork is AMAZING - check it this splash page!! I'm sorry it's not a series. 😔 The storyline could've really benefited from greater elaboration and development. #graphicnovel #aprilbookshowers
Pretty excited to start this! The cover art alone is gorgeous! #graphicnovel #nofilter #aprilbookshowers
Just finished reading this fantastic new graphic novel. It's about a girl who travels to other planets while she sleeps. In her waking hours she and her brother (and their pet/friend Monkey) struggle to make a living after their parents leave them. Love the characters, story, world, and illustrations. I hope that we get to see more from this world. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I chiseled away at Mt. Review Copy this weekend. Of course I then downloaded a bunch more. 😜
This gorgeous graphic novel about a girl who travels to other planets in her sleep is so intriguing! The world-building is just fabulous. I really hope there's a sequel.
Out this week. Pick it up!
Beautiful art in this graphic novel! The MC inhabits other creatures on other planets when she sleeps! She's got a strong relationship with her brother; their parents are pretty irresponsible and out of the picture. I'm assuming the start of a series. LOVED all the alien planets and creatures!
