Yummy: The Last Days of a Southside Shorty
Yummy: The Last Days of a Southside Shorty | G Neri, Randy DuBurke
Eleven-year-old Roger is trying to make sense of his classmate Robert "Yummy" Sandifer's death, but first he has to make sense of Yummy's life. Yummy could be as tough as a pit bull sometimes. Other times he was as sweet as the sugary treats he loved to eat. Was Yummy some sort of monster, or just another kid?As Roger searches for the truth, he finds more and more questions. How did Yummy end up in so much trouble? Did he really kill someone? And why do all the answers seem to lead back to a gang the same gang Roger's older brother belongs to?Yummy: The Last Days of a Southside Shorty is a compelling dramatization based on events that occurred in Chicago in 1994. This gritty exploration of youth gang life will force readers to question their own understandings of good and bad, right and wrong."

I‘m sharing the recipe I plan on making for Christmas breakfast/brunch. Eggs Benedict Casserole sounds pretty great to me! And you can make it the night before which makes me happy. I plan on making a crockpot of white hot chocolate to go along with it.

Powerful and thought provoking. As someone who was born and lives near Chicago it struck home. A quick read that is thought provoking

A deviating examination of gang violence and juvenile recruitment through the lens of the true story of an eleven year old boy who accidentally murdered a young girl and was killed by fellow gang members when the pressure got too much.

Here‘s the yummy dinner @HotdogZanzabaar and I had last night from GoKupz, a local Korean street food restaurant. I had fried pork, rice, salad, sushi, kimchi, zucchini, and veggie dumplings. It was amazing. 😍

This was a very sad read, but good. It‘s the fictionalized account of the last days of Robert “Yummy” Sandifer, an 11 year old boy and gang member who shot and killed a 14 year old girl, Shavon Dean in 1994. Soon after he was killed by his own gang. It doesn‘t excuse Yummy‘s actions, but it paints a fuller picture of a kid abused by his parents who in turn used violence against others.

Making spaghetti for dinner tonight but instead of ground beef I'm using ground turkey with 93% lean and 7% fat. Has anyone try this before ? I think it going be really good.😊❤️🍝#momgoals #wifegoals

Mommamanzi I use ground turkey for everything! It can get very dry if you over cook it. So cook it to temperature and then stop! ❤ (edited) 7y
coffeewithbooks @Mommamanzi okay thanks . I have it low just waiting for the noddles to be done. Abigail favorite chicken and turkey lol but she asleep . 7y
Captivatedbybooks I have! I add beef boulion powder to mask the turkey taste 7y

ContraryMary I can't eat red meat so I substitute ground turkey in everything! It's great in tacos too! 7y
Bostonmomx2 I️ make turkey things for my husband but I‘m not a fan so I️ don‘t eat it. I‘m sure it‘ll be perfectly fine and probably not much different for you 😊 7y

Telling the story of Robert "Yummy" Sandifer's last days alive, this #nonfiction #graphicnovel shows the complexities in trying to understand what led to this young boy's life of crime & eventual murder. Whether you view Yummy as a bully or a victim, this book can spark discussion on the issue of gang violence & its effects on children in those communities.

Inspired by a restaurant I ate at in Nashville and @MrBook (one can only see so many tater tots pics before caving) I made truffle tater tots with Parmesan and rosemary. Heavenly 😇

Alfoster Looks delicious!! 8y
britt_brooke Ooh, yum! Which Nashville restaurant was the inspiration? 8y
Kirstin @britt_brooke It was Burger Revolution in the gulch. Life changing tater tots there! 😊 8y

Kirstin @britt_brooke I was there, on a charter, for 4 days in May and had a blast! Amazing city you live in! 😊So much good food and 🎶 🎶 8y
britt_brooke @Kirstin We are in a northeast suburb and rarely go into the city because traffic is horrendous. That's the only downside of the Nashville area. But there is a lot of cool stuff here! 8y

Wow! What an amazing, powerful story. Based on the tragic true story of 11 year old Robert "Yummy" Sandifer, it focuses on the days that led to Yummy killing a young girl while trying to impress a gang, and the aftermath of this event. It tries to present Yummy as a complete person, both the good and the bad. This really makes me stop and think about his life, and what could've been done to make it end differently.

Theresa Sounds fascinating. 8y
