In the Nevada desert, an experiment has gone horribly wrong. A cloud of nanoparticlesmicro-robotshas escaped from the laboratory. This cloud is self-sustaining and self-reproducing. It is intelligent and learns from experience. For all practical purposes, it is alive. It has been programmed as a predator. It is evolving swiftly, becoming more deadly with each passing hour.Every attempt to destroy it has failed. And we are the prey.

1. I think I‘m average but slightly above average for my age group with the caveat of being that way with technology I enjoy like video editing and photo software.
2. Tagged + I love what I call techno thrillers (is that a real genre?). I read a lot of authors like Blake Crouch, James Rollins, and Michael Crichton that use technology in their stories. I find these kinds of books fun and exciting.

TheSpineView Great line up of books! Thanks for playing! 5mo
BethM Almost like a sci-fi thriller without the space opera. My fave! 5mo
Avanders Oooh I think I refer to those as techie sci fi — probably the same genre! Love them - right at the top of my list! 😍 5mo
MaleficentBookDragon Hi @Avanders ! Long time no talk. How are things with you? I have A LOT to tell you. I‘ll text you soon. 5mo
Avanders I knooooow - I can‘t believe how much time keeps on passing! 🫨 Things are better now, though, than they were last year, which was a brutal year! Definitely look forward to hearing from you soon! ♥️ 5mo

I listened to the audio and it mostly held my attention. I actually found John‘s home life pretty amusing, particularly the fighting siblings (that was pretty realistic – lol!). Was interesting reading now, in 2023, about Crichton‘s speculation of artificial intelligence back in 2002

This book took a while to get going, but once it did it took off in true Crichton style. I had to crack up at the scenes of the stay at home dad fielding calls from his fighting kids while trying to save the world.

This is the final book in my 2023 #ReadingUSA challenge. If you‘d like to see the full round up it‘s here: http://www.allthebooksihaventread.com/blog-1/2023/12/28/i-read-a-book-set-in-eac...

2. Prey. One of my favorite Crichton novels, finished it in one day.

🎧 Do you like Crichton? Then you‘ll prolly like this book. I did! (But I like very B movies)

The time stamping reminded me of Andromeda Strain.

It‘s a sci-fi mystery with suspense and a side of thriller. A cloud of Experimental intelligent Nanoparticles escape from a lab, oh no, what could go wrong? A little dated.

Crichton used science to make it sound plausible. The downfall of humanity will be at humanity‘s hand ....

a solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Created by Michael Crichton, who is well known for the jurassic park books. Prey however, is about new class Micro Robots, that are designed by humans, however they become more evolved, they start to think on there own, these organisms multiply at a rapid rate that could cost a huge impact on our bio atmosphere. since these organisms are developing at a fast rate they are quickly becoming more powerful than nuclear weapons!

nathan.schreiber i would recommend this book to people that are into science fiction and love developing and technology. definitely recommend a higher level or readers! 4y

I read this one SO FAST. It was so good. Very creepy and unnerving. Kept me guessing until the end. I love Michael Crichton's writing. He does sci-fi right.

I thought this book was alright. I was really invested in it the first half of the book. But, by around the end, it kind of fell through on me a little bit. I really liked the first half and parts of the second; especially when Jack was a full-time dad and he finds out that his wife, Julia, might be having an affair. Towards the end I was starting to lose interest, but I wanted to finish the book regardless. Not sure if any of you feel the same.

It was an interesting read that makes you hope that the government isn‘t messing with ideas like what the story is about. The characters at the beginning were very aggravating but once I finished the aggravation depleted a little bit once I learned why some characters acted the way they did.

I love well-researched SciFi novels and Michael Crichton is one of the best authors for these types of books! Prey is about the dangers of mixing nanotechnology with computer programming and bioengineering, and when people allow their new found ideas to run freely. Crichton always addresses current issues and then takes it one step farther to the unimaginable, yet almost possible. Highly recommend this book and his others!

I feel like the only reason I'm going to finish this book is because I'm almost done with it. It started off interesting but I've been getting more and more disenfranchised as I go. It's gotten to the point where I haven't made progress in weeks and am trying to convince myself to read it. Unless there's a big surprise in the last 100 pages, I think this'll be a pass for me. 🤷‍♀️

Megabooks I didn't like this one either. Forgettable. 8y
ClareBear73 😕 I just bought one of his, I've never read his before. I hope it's not a reject too 8y
mkritchey @Booksandcooks it started so good too. :/ the thermite picked it up a bit but i doubt that'll do anything for long 8y

mkritchey @ClareBear73 this is my first book by this author. Even if this book is a dud, I won't hold it against him. It takes several books for me to drop an author onto my never-reading-again list 8y
ClareBear73 I guess anyone can turn out a dud. 8y
mkritchey @ClareBear73 I learned that lesson with one of my favorite authors. I've read around 30 of his books and loved his stuff and always just bought them on sight. But I got one that was complete crap. I was disappointed. Not in Koontz because I still love his work but that particular one was shockingly off-brand for him 8y
Megabooks Try Timeline! Or State of Fear! Those are my favorites by him. (edited) 8y
mkritchey @Booksandcooks oh! I'll add them to my list! 8y
ClareBear73 @mkritchey That's interesting, he is one of my favourites too which book did you hate? 8y
mkritchey @ClareBear73 there was a cool middle section that was spooky but the ending was...odd and didn't make sense and almost like it was trying too hard to be a "feel good" lesson. I was NOT fond of it overall. But there was some creepy parts that were awesome and well written that I felt were wasted on the story 8y
ClareBear73 @mkritchey it's been a long time since I read that one so I don't remember it super well but I know it wasn't one of my favs. I was a bit disappointed in the ending of Ashley Bell, have you read that one? 8y
mkritchey It's the one where the main character gets a heart transplant. Ashley Bell? No, I haven't read that one. 8y
ClareBear73 @mkritchey yes I do remember that one being a bit odd. 8y
mkritchey @ClareBear73 yeah, I remember alternating between being really intrigued and being really disinterested. It's the only Koontz book I've ever sold to a used book store :/ lol then again, I bought it from one originally haha 8y
ClareBear73 Lol. I can't bring myself to do that, even if I didn't like it. Got to have the full set. 8y
mkritchey @ClareBear73 I'm of the mindset that if I sell back a book I didn't like, someone else will have the opportunity to like it and I have more book space to get something else! 8y
ClareBear73 @mkritchey that is a very good point, always need more room. 8y

By The Light Of The Moon was the last book that I read where I DESPISED the characters and what they do this much. But... I ended up loving them just before the second half started and things got whacky! However...I'm over halfway done with Prey and I'm just getting fussy about everything. People are dumb. Lesson learned. Ready to be done with this one. Unimpressed.
