Death Du Jour: A Novel | Kathy Reichs
30 posts | 71 read | 12 to read
Forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs exploded onto bestseller lists worldwide with her phenomenal debut novel Dj Deadand introduced [a] brilliant heroine (Glamour) in league with Patricia Cornwells Kay Scarpetta. Dr. Temperance Brennan, Quebecs director of forensic anthropology, now returns in a thrilling new investigation into the secrets of the dead.In the bitter cold of a Montreal winter, Tempe Brennan is digging for a corpse buried more than a century ago. Although Tempe thrives on such enigmas from the past, its a chain of contemporary deaths and disappearances that has seized her attentionand she alone is ideally placed to make a chilling connection among the seemingly unrelated events. At the crime scene, at the morgue, and in the lab, Tempe probes a mystery that sweeps from a deadly Quebec fire to startling discoveries in the Carolinas, and culminates in Montreal with a terrifying showdowna nerve-shattering test of both her forensic expertise and her skills for survival.

"Ms. Reichs has done it again! I stayed awake late with twitching eyes finishing this, it was that compelling. She found a way to make the cult as murder suspect angle fresh. I had no idea who the big kahuna was until the very end pages." My thoughts have not changed since I read this last.

I check out my local Coles every time I get near the mall.

If I owned a bookstore I would call it 'Sit a Spell' or 'Romancing the Tome'.

Current read is tagged.

One of books I got from a Book club Xmas. It reminded me why I had stopped reading her. Far too much detail of things I‘d rather not know. Other than that it was an ok read. Got me through our dreadful heat wave.

My May pick for #12Booksof2021. After reading this installation in the Temperance Brennan series, I immediately started the next. Reichs is such a talented storyteller.

Andrew65 A great series, even if Tempe can frustrate you at times with some of her actions. (edited) 3y
Mollyanna @andrew65 Agreed. I‘ve been listening to these in the car, and I‘m sure other drivers are wondering who I‘m yelling at sometimes 😳 3y

My 1st finish for #NutsinMay. This is the second book in the Temperance Brennan series. I listened to this one and thought the narrator did a great job with both the French and Southern American accents. Unfortunately, they appear to change narrators frequently in this series 😡. I enjoyed this story and thought it moved along beautifully. I finished it quicker than I thought I would which says something. This was another book for #seriesread2021

While I used the picture of Temperance Brennan from the TV show, I was actually thinking of the Temperance Brennan from the books. They are completely different and I prefer the book Temperance. She is smart and emotional, she solves crimes using both intellectual and emotional intelligence.

This is the second in the Temperance Brennan series, and I think I'm just not crazy about them. I love the TV series Bones, but this is nearly unrecognizable as the source material. The story was ok. The characters are ok. The narration was bad. If I pick up book 3, it'll be in print.

vlwelser I read some of this series and for once I think I liked the tv show better. But they are really not even the same thing. 4y

DieAReader 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I‘ve been slowly reading this series for several years & I like it well enough. I‘d have to agree that I prefer the 📺 show (this may also have something to do with my 🥰 for David Boreanaz too😁). Have you read the Kay Scarpetta series? This is also part of the reason I am still working on the Temperamce Brennan series (14+/19 read)😉 Out of the 2, Scarpetta (6/24 read) is the one I prefer. (edited) 4y
Traci1 @Squidget I've never read any Cornwell books. I'll have to give her a try. 4y

I really enjoy Kathy Reichs. This one was a bit gruesome for me but the mystery kept me guessing until the end.

I listen to audiobooks while I'm working and yesterday I realized, I've been listening to the abridged version of this book!! I am so upset! 😂 I should have known something was up when I was already 55% in after like 2 hours, smh. Now I need to start over.

This one really punched me in the gut. Cults are usually trite in fiction: this one made for a fabulous thriller through exposition. Stayed up til 2 am to finish it. So glad birdie made it 🙂

Dr. Temperance Brennan uses her forensic skills to investigate a series of unrelated events - horrifying deaths in a Quebec fire & discoveries in North Carolina with a showdown in Montreal. I enjoyed the 1st book in the series more but in this book there seems to be too many plot lines. A relationship with Det. Andy Ryan seems to be starting. I look forward to the next book in order to see how this interest progresses. Recommended.

CourtSmall The books are great.... Way better than the TV show!!!! 5y

1. See my profile for these. Too many.
2. Of ice and shadows.
3. All the Twilight movies. Such cinematic/effects masterpieces. Such incredibly shitty script. Had to keep pausing just so could prepare for the worst scenes.

The 2nd book in the Temperance Brennan series, I liked this one better than the first. With the body of a nun, arson, her sister in town, possible cult activity & things heating up with Detective Ryan, there is a lot going on. Again my library carries just the abridged audiobook & so I am probably missing a lot of the forensic details, but the 5-ish hour listening time does make them good palate cleanser books. I put myself on hold for No. 3. 📚👍

I know not all of these take place in Montreal, but it's been a while since I've read through them, and Little Man was giving me a run for my money this afternoon. #seasonsreadings2016 #needtoreread

This book was an easy read in between some more ambitious reading and it was exactly what I needed. Kathy Reichs has a rich vocabulary and a beautiful way with words. Although I'm not one for blatant foreshadowing (I prefer the sneaky kind😉) I really enjoy her writing 😊
