Unpopular opinion: I didn't care for it. I find it clichéd, trying a bit too hard and unnecessary stretched out.
I cared for Davey and Marjorie (the main character's brother and best friend) significantly more than for Rabbit. She and her daughter were too faultless.
Did anyone else in the universe feel something similar? :D
Not a Pan (but on the edge) because it kept me reading with some interest, but I wouldn't recommend it to a friend.

This was a gift from a dear friend who has no idea what kind of books I like at all?
I am still determined to give this a fair chance.

It's about a woman dying of cancer and her family coping.
I liked one simple quote of her sister and husband (the sister's) talking:
"All is well my darling", he said.
"We do our best to support her."
"And what then?"
"Then we say goodbye."

Thanks for the tag @RamsFan1963#ThankfulThursday @Cosmos_Moon

Tagged. 🇬🇧“The last Days of Rabbit Hayes”

1️⃣ In no way. Go “trick-or-treat”-ing still is relatively new in Germany – even though it – to my sorrow – becomes more and more popular. But all the neighbourhood kids have outgrown it. So lucky me.

2️⃣ I‘m grateful for: • The emotional support I got. • The bits of recuperation I got. • My online library‘s app that works again.

TsundokuManasi @Buechersuechtling Dankeschön 😊 Aber ich verstehe nicht. Ich lerne Deutsch und kann lese bitte, aber verstehe nicht. Tut mir leid 😔😊 4y

As Rabbit Hayes moves into hospice her family gathers around her but none of the Hayes are passive people, especially Rabbit. She wants to fight to watch her daughter grow and to spend more time with those she loves even as she sleeping more means getting to spend more time revisiting cherished times in her past. This could could have been a long weepy read, and there were some tear filled moments, but there was so much more humor and joy.

I don't think I have ever cried and laughed so much, whilst reading the very same book.
I loved spending time with this potty-mouthed, close-knit Irish family. As they cope with Rabbit's last days in hospice, she looks back at her childhood when her family followed her brother's band. Moving and heart-breaking doesn't really cover it, but not only does it bring tears of sadness, this story is also funny as hell.💕

OriginalCyn620 Sounds great! 🍀💚 5y

Well, according to my subconscious this book had a deep impact on me.

I dreamt about Rabbit dying.

What I never do. Dream about books and remember it the next morning, I mean. It‘s called book-hangover, isn‘t it❓🤔

Moony I also never dream about books before. Must be funny, when it is an lovely book. 6y

Might be the book is not exactly what the marketing blurb suggests because Rabbit is no active party, she is more the connection that forces the bystanders to act but I loved it anyway.
Here and there it‘s a bit cliché – on the one hand. On the other hand _do_ people surpass theirselves when forced to.

Heartbreakingly emotional with authentic family ties. For this, I loved the book but other plot lines seem unnecessary to me.

#BookishGoal at 63.

I‘m reading the chapter where Johnny and Rabbit attend the church service of Mother Teresa – and … so funny. 😂

👉🏼 The joke about how many Irish are needed to put a light bulb in. 😂

👉🏼 “Talking walnut” 🤣

The story is so sad.
But beautifully written.
I can‘t really judge but the characters, the dialogues, the emotional fight – everything seems so authentic.

No easy read but I love it. 🧡

I know this is no book related post and its content is contrasting the sadness of the tagged book – but maybe there are some more Snooker fans here on Litsy.

If yes, who else saw that brilliant because suspenseful deciding frame between David Gilbert and Mark Selby❓ David Gilbert is someone you see playing on TV tables rarely and until today I have never seen him play so well.

Oh, wow. 🤩

I am approximately as far in as I was when I decided to bail „The Danish Girl“ but this book already has pulled me into its story. It‘s fluent to read and the sadness that I feel after about 30 pages comes from the sympathy I have for someone with a terminal disease – and is not artificially reinforced by pulling at the reader‘s heartstrings.

But now I‘m glad it‘s time for the evening session at the Tempodrome.

Time for this sad story. 😢

„When the most terrible happens, you know who loves you. You have only nine days. Nine days to laugh at the curses of your mother. To hold the hand of your father (if he lets you). And to help your sister with her family chaos. To offer to your brother a way back into the family. Only nine days for a farewell from your daughter who does not know yet that now you will go... Enormously sad. Enormous comforting.“

Step forward, fellow littens, who of you was it that posted about this book today, yesterday or the day before yesterday❓🤔
Because your post reminded me that I wanted to read the book, too. And I just noticed earlier today that it is on my online llibrary‘s wish list 🤭 but I refrained from borrowing it because it seems to be very sad and I don‘t feel like reading a sad story at the moment. 🤷🏽‍♀️

The book begins with Rabbit entering hospice. As her family surrounds her with love, coming to terms with her likely death, there are plenty of heartbreaking moments—but it‘s not a depressing story. Each member of the Hayes family brings entertaining, heartwarming memories to the story, and I couldn‘t help falling in love with every character. This is definitely another #FreakyFriday favorite.

I‘m choosing the word “formidable.” I like that the word itself gives the daunting impression of what it means. Plus, it‘s a perfect adjective for the type of mother you want on your side during the bleakness of illness. #FreakyFridayChallenge

#NuYear #MyLastDay I‘ve DEFINITELY posted about this one before, but it‘s so perfect for today‘s prompt and is not as well known in the US.
Prepare to laugh out loud, and cry some tears. I just loved this potty-mouthed, close-knit Irish family. As they cope with young Rabbit's last days in hospice, she looks back at her childhood.
Would be a good pick for #pop18 for a celeb bookclub pick... I discovered it from the Richard & Judy Book club....

LoveToReadLiveToRead I keep hearing good things about this book. It was a pick for the BBC radio 2 book club too and I‘ve not read one of their picks yet that I didn‘t like. 7y

@Cinfhen #decdays

Verity I cried buckets at Rabbit Hayes. And A Monster Calls. Not the same sort of thing at all on the surface, and I can‘t explain too much without giving stuff away, but if you liked Rabbit, you might want to try Lucy Robinson‘s Unfinished Symphony if You and Me. I ended up nearly messy crying on the train over this, the same way I did for Rabbit! 7y

#rocktober #thefinalcountdown Quite literal today! I've never cried so much, and laughed out loud so much, reading the very same book. I loved spending time with this potty-mouthed, close-knit Irish family. They pull together to cope with young Rabbit's last days in hospice, and look back at her childhood. Finished this yesterday and just wow. What a beautiful story about family and coping with death. I read reviews where people said that they were crying after the first page so I thought "challenge accepted". Yeah so I realised it was possible to cry after the first page. Excellent writing - loved the characters! Anyway, I should stop before I cry again...

Mia-"Rabbit"-Hayes knows that life is hard for everyone. And she knows that she's one of the lucky ones. She loves her life, ordinary as it is. Rabbit has big ideas, full of music and love and life. But the world has other plans: a devastating diagnosis.

She is feisty. And with every ounce strength in her, she will fight. She will be with those who love her as long as she can, because she is Rabbit Hayes and she will live until she dies.

#TBR ?

Why isn't there a rating for 'Absolutely Love and Adore'?! This is one of my all-time favourite books. Anna McPartlin manages to take a heart-breaking topic and turn it into a book that makes you want to climb right inside because her characters are just so warm, funny, endearing and real!

Furny I adored this book. I absolutely bawled my eyes out big time at the end though and it took me a while to come back down from it!😂xx 9y
