Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens
Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens | J M Barrie
7 posts | 5 read | 4 to read
Acclaimed by "The" "Times" of London as "one of the most charming books ever written," J. M. Barrie's fantasy was published in 1906 with illustrations by the great Arthur Rackham. This meticulous re-creation of that rare and valuable volume features all of the original artwork that illuminated the text: 50 color plates as well as black-and-white tailpieces, headpieces, and more. Readers of all ages will delight in following the exuberant child through Kensington Gardens, where fairies dance to the music of his panpipes and teach him to fly.

Mehso-so

I had a lot of fun with the first half of this book, I loved all the little bits of lore about the Gardens and about Pan himself, but when the second half of the book came in and introduced Mamie it quickly took a turn for the creepy, followed by charming, and then creepy again. It left me with a very sad feeling and I feel like I need to read something cheerier now.

Fancy a magical visit to a beautiful #park?

I visited the Peter Pan statue a few times when I was in London (many) years ago. Without fail there would be at least one child starting in awe or playing a cheeky game of peekaboo with Peter.

I noticed @vivastory posted about Peter Pan and thought you might appreciate this gorgeous Arthur Ransome illustration from our (work's) first edition of Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens (1906) along with one of Barrie's letters in his famously difficult handwriting!

vivastory The annotated edition had several Arthur Ransome illustrations and they're easily my favorite Pan related art work. Stunning. Thank you so much for posting this! 7y
Moray_Reads @vivastory you're welcome. If I have to work on a Saturday I might as well make the most of it. I did have a picture of the cover but my phone didn't save it! 7y
vivastory Are Saturdays one of your days off? 7y
Moray_Reads @vivastory Usually it's Monday to Friday but I cover a Saturday morning once every 6 weeks or so. 7y

Happy #ShelfieSunday! This is a beautiful vintage edition of Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens that I discovered in my school's library one rainy afternoon. I love Peter Pan & I collect different editions; I probably have around 12 copies! What are your favorite children's stories?

#JulyofDisney: #shelfie (OK, so it's a library shelfie, but it still counts!)

LauraLovesLiterature PS: Spider-Man Homecoming came out last week and I've already seen it twice; I'm obsessed! Has anyone else seen it? What do you all think of it? Feelings about my one true love Tom Holland as Spider-Man? If you hated it, that's fine, you're totally entitled to your opinion... but we can't be friends 😂🕷 7y
charissharpe Oh I loved Peter Pan! My fabulous childhood reads were pretty much anything by Enid Blyton. 7y

Fairies never say "We feel happy"; What they say is, "We feel dancey."
