I haven‘t been on Litsy in 3 years but I had to return to say that this is one of my favorite books I‘ve ever read. That‘s all!

PSA: Cat lovers of all ages NEED this book. It has five starred reviews, it comes out on Tuesday, it should win awards, it is EMOTIONAL, I love it so much. 😭😍🐱🐱
Jill Cafferty is the first woman to be drafted into the major leagues. She'll have to leave home just days after HS graduation, to face intense scrutiny not just from her teammates, but from the world. It's just making history... NO PRESSURE! 😘 White writes such great characters, and excellent ensemble banter. Great for both baseball fans AND people who are sport-free (like me!) ♥️⭐️⚾️⭐️♥️
LOVE, ISH doesn't officially come out until the 14th, but I found it in the bookstore early (and yep, that is my shelf-talker, what can I say, I like to brag about my own books!) -- in all seriousness though, you should nab this one if you like profoundly affecting middle grade that WILL make you cry. Booklist's starred review calls it: "A star-bright story of love, courage, and unflagging spirit." Yup. ?⭐️♥️
Pushing the keyboard out of the way so I can READ. There is pretty much nothing as satisfying as a new Sarah Dessen. This one, set in the wacky world of wedding planners, about a girl who absolutely does NOT believe in the fairytale and the boy who hopes to change her mind, is no exception. So far, so delightful! 🌟💅💄👰❤️ - coming out in June!
Girls dressed as boys! Scoundrels dressed as viscounts! Boys dressed as girls dressed as highwaymen! This Georgian romance plot is completely bananapants in the best way. However I struggled at first with the over-the-top writing and confusion - but if you push through and accept that some things are just gonna be confusing, it all comes together and is pretty delightful.
So I couldn't sleep last night, and I started to read this, and one thing led to another, and it was 6am and I was happy-sighing. Very fun enemies-to-lovahs romance (my fav trope at the mo), set in the world of the London theatre scene 🎭 - a notorious a$$hole actor needs his image refurbished so his publicist sets up a fauxmance, with expected (but still DELIGHTFUL) results. Cute cute!
New Years resolution time! I'm in the process of decluttering and kinda trying to REIN IN MY MESSY WORLD; this is good, low-stress advice for people who maybe are not ready for Marie Kondo-ing, busy people who get stressed out by chaos but also get overwhelmed by tackling it. You know, like a lot of us! Simple and straightforward. I like the mini-challenges, too. Yes, cleaning sucks, but it's kinda cool to make a game of it. ;-)
Dimple wants to defy her parents' expectations and attend a summertime coding seminar in San Francisco. She has NO idea why her parents agreed to let her go...but she does know she is definitely NOT interested in finding a guy. Rishi wants to obey his parents, find a nice Indian girl to marry, and have his future laid out perfectly. He's going to the seminar, too, but only to meet Dimple... A sparkling YA romcom that had me grinning like a fool!
This book is SO adorable, and I am sad that it is not coming out until summer (though it is a perfect summer book! Or "pretend it is summer because it is so bloody cold outside" book, in this case ?) -- two besties take a European vacation together, but boy troubles, money troubles and family-back-home troubles keep messing with their well-designed itinerary. Funny, sexy and sweet, and will make you LONG for adventure and a scoop of gelato!
What Gardner's GRENDEL did for Beowulf, what WIDE SARGASSO SEA did for mad Mrs. Rochester, Elliott's YA tour de force does for the Minotaur. In vivid, brash, often profane, but totally accessible verse, the tale of the mythical monster is retold for a modern audience, with Poseidon as our braggadocious narrator. A strange and special book that will stay with the reader - and now I want Elliott "translations" of all the Greek tragedies and legends!
Publishing settings are my catnip, and this certainly was for me - my favorite read of December. Two executive assistants at a publishing house with adjacent desks spend their days making life hell for each other - but when they are both up for the same promotion, sparks REALLY start to fly. This is Thorne's debut, but she's already an instabuy author for me! 😍 A+ BANTER 😍
A delightfully over-the-top, big, bold, brassy, sassy and ROMANTIC romp across Europe, featuring: Lust! Love! Pirates! Alchemy! Befuddled Chaperones! Accidental Garden Nudity! And so much more. A Grand Tour to be savored. 😍
Abbie Wu is a middle child starting middle school and she is FREAKING OUT! A hilarious highly illustrated comic-novel for fans of Ramona and Dork Diaries ⚡️⚡️⚡️
This early reader graphic novel is LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY and turtley perfect for the little weirdo, proto-hipster, pun-lover or undersea enthusiast in your life.
New in paperback: COTTAGE IN THE WOODS is gorgeous, mysterious, slyly comic and just all-around wonderful, for 10+ (and grownups, too.) Think Jane Eyre meets the Three Bears. ❤️👧🐻🐻🐻❤️
The best Back to School book of 2016. (PS: I cried!) (IN A GOOD WAY)
An American exchange student meets cute with a young prince at Oxford - and so begins a delightful, dizzyingly romantic and truly FUNNY Cinderella story. Perfect for any Wills-and-Kate fan, or the reader who craves wish fulfilling, escapist comedy. 😍😍😍
As perfect a specimen of pulp mid-century camp as ever existed. Not to be taken seriously -- but it IS to be savored. And the new edition has hot pink edges!
Holy. Shit. INTENSE. Bex is hyper-paranoid about the government and trains with guns and survival tactics to protect herself and her family -- but the real danger comes from somewhere else. Also: Gender identity! Realistic F/F romance! Nuanced look at 2nd amendment rights and home-grown terror! Whoa
I love this book! A wonderful picture book about the Notorious RBG.
I guess I wasn't in the mood, because it's exactly like something I WOULD like, but instead I found it annoying. I left it in my hotel room.
I can't tell you how much I'm loving this book. Reimagined Lady Jane Grey story with JOKES GALORE... AND SHAPESHIFTERS! I don't know why this works, but it does, and it's everything I've ever dreamed of. During a dreadful week, this is pure joyful escapism. Plus, a beautiful package!
This week, THE SEVENTH WISH was removed from some school libraries and the author "disinvited" from a school visit despite being well-reviewed, kid-friendly, and magical. Why? The book touches on a difficult topic, and the school principal was afraid. ? BUY IT. READ IT. SHARE IT. It's important.
This book is CRACKED OUT. An Earl dies on a jungle expedition and makes his ne'er-do-well twin bro swear he will *pretend to be him* so his preggo wife won't get upset and lose the baby. What could go wrong with THAT gem of a plan? Pretty much a regency Sweet Valley High book. I'm not complaining.
The trashiest trash you'll ever love. How can you prepare yourself? I'd suggest wrapping yourself in a leopard print robe, donning large clip-on diamond earrings, knocking back a couple of strong martinis, and having a well-muscled pool boy nearby couldn't hurt. 💖🍸
This is apparently a real book. Probably it will be a NYT bestseller because there is no God. Internet sensation Matty B's "first memoir" is filled with his... unique... philosophical musings about growing up in the spotlight. All I know is, this kid better STAY OFF MY LAWN.
New in paperback and perfect for middle graders who like a dose of magic in a realistic story. Ava finds a "magic" pencil that'll answer any question. But she becomes kinda addicted to asking questions she shouldn't. And the more she asks, the more she has to sharpen, and the shorter it gets... ?✏️
I listened to the audio and couldn't shut up about it for weeks -- everything I never knew about the secret machinations behind the war in Vietnam and more. EYE OPENING and profoundly resonant to issues today; nothing about mid-century US looks the same after reading. For kids, but also EVERYONE.
Forget "Oh the Places You'll Go" -- the college grad in your life (or the newly adulting 22-35 year old you) MUST read this book for no-nonsense, no-bullshit advice on getting your financial house in order. The breezy tone helps the POWERFUL MEDICINE go down. ???
Jane Austen + Magic. Sounds like hyperbole, but actually is accurate. (OK OK a dash of Forsyte Saga in the mix, too.) Totally scrumptious. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Move over, Supes, there's a new hero in town! LOIS LANE: FALLOUT (now in paperback) + LOIS LANE: DOUBLE DOWN (new in hc) feature our fave reporter in a new light: fierce feminist teen journalist kickin ass and helping the underdog. Perfect for those who miss Veronica Mars. GIRL POWER! ⚡️#clientbook
A treat from start to finish. Anyone who loves bookstores will be delighted by this tale of a curmudgeonly bookseller who gets the surprise of his life one day.... Like "The Rosie Project" for book nerds! ❤️?❤️?
Everything about THIS IS NOT A PICTURE BOOK is lovely and thoughtful, right down to the endpapers. An ode to literacy that will foster an appreciation of ALL kinds of books - even the lousy pictureless ones. 📚😘 #clientbook
A nuanced and powerful look at a teen trans girl's experience that is both specific and universal. This will crawl into your heart and live there. SUCH a great voice. I was all 😭😍😭😍 -- Trans character actually written by trans author? YES! PLEASE! #ownvoices
Picture book non-fiction about a fearless girl who grew up to be the death-defying queen of magic! 🃏🌟💖 ~ #clientbook ~ art by Iacopo Bruno
The only book to have pride of place on my library table. HAMILTOME is a must-read for any fan of the Broadway show. The audio version is great, too, because VOICES! But then you miss the annotations and pictures.... Yeah, you're gonna need both, let's be honest. And a golden quill bookmark. 😘
Maguire doesn't just HAVE bad luck. She IS bad luck. A great romantic dramady for fans of Sarah Dessen. Pictured with some good luck charms ~ what, me superstitious? NAH... 😁 ~ #clientbook
Jenny is one of the premier kittycats in all of American letters. A true classic, about a shy NYC cat who longs to be brave and daring, and her crew of feline comrades. The perfect book for emerging readers or as a night-time read aloud for kids with longer-than-picture-book attention spans.
Got F&G's for Maggie's debut picture book, coming from Candlewick in September. Dang I love this lil Octopus! #clientbook ~ art by Benji Davies.
FINGERSMITH has two moments so amazing/unexpected I literally screamed out loud and thrust the book away as if bitten. It is one of my fave books ever - I am intensely jealous of those newbies who get to read this for the first time. This is probably my most-recommended title at the bookstore. 🙌🏽
Every school has a queen bee and a pariah - but what happens when one girl is both? A setting/topic I'd never think I'd like made completely riveting thanks to Johnson's *spectacular* writing. Very loosely based on A WINTER'S TALE, but one need not have any knowledge of the source material to enjoy.
A perfectly delightful YA about a kid from an uber-theatrical family (think, like, if Patti LuPone was your mom), who has a transformative time in summer stock. Theatre! Bisexuality! Kissing! Shakespearean-Musical mashups! MORE THEATRE! I loved it, and teen me woulda DIED of love. Xoxo! 🎭❤️💛💚💙💜
