Then She Was Gone | Lisa Jewell

🥀THEN SHE WAS GONE by Lisa Jewell was just the thriller I‘ve been needing. Jewell presented a creative plot that pulled me in and I finished it pretty quickly. I was able to figure out some of the surprises ahead of time, but nonetheless this read was still entertaining with solid character development.

I actually surprised myself at how quickly I read through this, and I believe it‘s because of Boyne‘s character development. I became so invested in his quirky and endearing subjects, that I just kept reading and reading and avoiding any adult responsibilities. I blame you for my dirty house John Boyne! 😆 Anyway, great read with fun characters and a lovely, satisfying ending, so don‘t let the size of the book intimidate you. #bookworm #bookaddict

I did struggle through this book a little. The writing style was hard for me to get used to and it was really dark, as I am sure addiction truly is, but there were some parts so slow and vulgar I almost wanted to skip ahead. I think a lot of that is due to a blunt description of someone struggling with addiction, but still hard to read nonetheless. I did appreciate his honesty even if I didn‘t always agree with his opinions or conclusions.

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I liked this book until I found out that the author lied about it being a memoir. 7y
lindseytailored @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego oh yeah. I totally get that! We trust authors to be honest and it‘s a put off to violate our trust like that. 7y

A Hundred Summers | Beatriz Williams

I really enjoyed this book! I thought Williams provided a fascinating tale with a fun backdrop which would have made me feel on vacation even if I wasn‘t. Honestly I was surprised how much this plot kept me guessing! There were some good twists & turns 😧, an ill-fated romance 💔, and questionable friendships 🤨. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an easy, fun read this summer! 🐳 #beachreads #booklover #bookworm #bookaholic

The plot was interestingly different and kept me eagerly turning the pages. 📖 Jacobs writes an intriguing thriller revolving around academia and secret organizations that keeps you guessing until the end. #bookworm #booknerd #booknerdigans #bookish #booklove #booklover #booklovers #book #books #bookaholic #bookaddict #lindseytailoredreads

We actually chose this book as our April pick for my local book club, so I‘ve had some time to mull it over and discuss my thoughts with some of my close girl friends. Some of the girls hadn‘t finished it yet due to a slow start to the story, so let me tell you this. Yes, you may have to give Westover‘s story a little time to develop, but it‘s worth it. I‘ve said it before and I‘ll say it again, truth is stranger than fiction! #bookworm #booknerd

I read this mystery-thriller at the beginning of this month and was not disappointed. Sure it may not have you on the edge of your seat the entire time, and sometimes the plot was a little slow, but I thought Strawser brought us a unique storyline that was not too far-fetched in modern day times. #bookworm #bookish #booklove #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #booknerd #booknerdigans #read #reading #reader #lindseytailoredreads

Overall All-American Murder was a fascinating read and I flew through it within a day or so. Football is my favorite sport and I follow the NFL pretty regularly, however I was totally unaware of the tumultuous background of Aaron Hernandez. Patterson takes you through Hernandez‘s trouble-filled days from high school, all the way to the end of his unfortunate life and it truly is eye-opening.

WOW. What a read! I honestly did not know what I was getting myself into. I thought “oh a book about a small town and hockey. Sounds good to me,” but this was so much more. This was a wake-up-and-smell-the-roses about our world today and how sometimes we say the most when we say nothing at all. I won‘t say much else so that I don‘t spoil anything, but this lovely novel touches on many modern day issues we are going through as a society.

Finished this autobiography during my road trip to Cali this past weekend. Overall a pretty solid book. Definitely written in Gucci Mane‘s voice, but I found that refreshing. I truly felt immersed in his life and he ends with a good “moral of the story.” Will definitely listen to his music differently now that he has provided context.

Other People's Houses | Abbi Waxman
post image
Mehso-so

Other People‘s Houses by Abbi Waxman was basically what it sounds like, a peek into the lives of several neighbors. It was a nice, light story after my previous read. Waxman definitely elicited a few good laughs from me, and I would recommend it to those that may need a little humor in their lives, which let‘s be real-who doesn‘t need humor in their lives? The only reason I gave it a So-So was because it wasn‘t anything deep and emotional.

Klebold provided a perspective on a situation that I could never even fathom. Her story was extremely personal and honest, and my heart breaks for everyone involved in this horrible event. She could have easily succumbed to her grief, as I‘m sure many people in her position would have, but instead she cracks open her family‘s personal life in hopes that others can learn better ways to help people with mental illness and to prevent future violence.

This story was like a Sherlock Holmes tale, but with a kick-butt woman in the lead role instead. It was a good mix of historical fiction, mystery, and girl power 👊🏻. And if you listen to it on audiobook, Angele Masters does an exquisite job at narration. I just LOVED listening to her voice, and that really makes all the difference for audiobooks! This is the first book in a series, and needless to say, I have already started the 2nd installment.

The Broken Girls | Simone St James
post image
Pickpick

This creepy tale revolves around an old, haunted boarding school for girls in rural Vermont. That sentence is spooky enough, am I right? However, throw in a couple murders and a narrative that flips between the past and the present, and you got a good, scary book on your hands! I really enjoyed reading this story. It was a dark, cozy novel for February and St. James created a uniquely satisfying ending. #bibliophile #bookworm #booknerd #bookish

An American Marriage | Tayari Jones

I adore the way Tayari Jones writes. I found myself looking for a pen to underline sentences at the beginning of the book, something which I haven‘t done since high school, so that tells you a lot right there. It was an emotional read that left me empathizing with every single one of the characters, and I was very moved. Definitely one of those eye-opening books where the author helps you understand perspectives you may have never considered.

Full disclosure: I was actually worried I wouldn‘t like this book. I thought it would be too similar to Don‘t Close Your Eyes by Holly Seddon, since it‘s about an agoraphobic woman spying on her neighbors, and I‘ve already “been there, read that.” I was happily wrong! I ended up loving A.J. Finn‘s (aka Daniel Mallory‘s) style of writing and I thought he brought a good simmer of suspense with a nice twist at the end. #bibliophile #bookish #thriller

A suspenseful story surrounding two young girls who go missing. Alice Vega, a [badass] PI that specializes in finding missing kids, is hired by the family & in turn recruits local police cast-off Max Caplan. Together they try to track down and save the girls before it‘s too late.. Overall I was happy with this read. This was the best book I‘ve read so far this year! Hosseini does a wonderful job of immersing the reader into another culture. What I loved most about this book was the character perspective Paula gave us. I cannot relate to the characters on a personal level (I'm not quite that insane), but the way each characters' thoughts were presented were very similar to the way thoughts run through my mind, making for an extremely easy read. It's actually funny, because in the beginning one character sticks out as being completely mad, but in the end is arguably the most sane. 🤔
