#MentalHeathMonday

Hard to believe it‘s the end of June! It‘s been a good month on a personal level. I‘ve had moments of joy, I‘ve read great books, and I‘ve stayed emotionally regulated despite the terrible things in the world. I‘m heartbroken and angry about all that‘s happening - but overall, I‘m doing better than I thought I might be six months into 2025.

How was your June?

Deblovestoread I sort of tapped out mid-June. Didn‘t pick up my daily reading for almost 2 weeks, scrolled by more than paying attention to posts here and elsewhere. Played mind numbing games. The last few days have been better so I think it was a much needed break. 5d
TheBookHippie @Deblovestoread I too was busy with the library sale for 8 days all day and it helped me escape a tiny bit. 5d
TheBookHippie Hydrate and get the right sleep. Make sure to break bread with other people and make sure laughter is a part of your life. I think having coping skills with my CPTSD & anxiety actually helps me here. I‘m use to being calm and peace when it‘s STORM everywhere you look. That being said I also have very firm boundaries. June was good for me. Better than I thought as well.. 5d

IriDas My June was all over the place. For n stuff with my kids and lots of reading because work is off for three weeks. But work was off for three weeks. 🚫💵😔 And, of course, the world is so terrible right now. I started walking at the beach before work and that‘s helped a little. There‘s another protest on Friday here. 🪧 I don‘t blame you for taking a break. I know it helps to do so. Make sure you take care of yourself as much as possible. 5d
AnnCrystal 💕🙏🏼🫂✌🏼💝. 5d
CatLass007 I loathe and despise Summer. And it‘s only just beginning. I would rather run barefoot, maybe even naked, in the snow rather than dealing with the oppressive heat of Summer. So that‘s me physically. I‘m trying to stay informed with what‘s going on in the world while not letting it overwhelm me. That is not an easy thing. Some days I read the news some days I don‘t. I also have to avoid certain people on the extreme right, and others on (cont)⬇️ (edited) 5d
CatLass007 the radical left. I know we all know the kind of stuff the people on the right side, but I‘m appalled when I hear folks on the radical left saying it would be a good idea to storm the White House and kill the occupant of the Oval Office. I don‘t know if that would be a second American Civil War or total anarchy. I am not for either of those things. Molly is still with me. I thought that I would have to have her euthanized last (cont)⬇️ (edited) 5d
CatLass007 week. She‘s lost so much weight but her days are good. She‘s grooming. She‘s jumping to the high spots that she adores. She‘s affectionate. She doesn‘t have bad days. She has little things that are bad during some days. I go in for surgery on Friday, 25 June and will be in the hospital for a week. I hate the idea of something happening with her while I am gone and someone else having to deal with it. Someone will come by daily to feed, (cont)⬇️ 5d
CatLass007 water, and scoop for all the kitties. But I need to be here for her when her time comes. So that‘s been on my mind for the last couple of days. But mostly, other than the heat, I‘m doing pretty well. (edited) 5d
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 glad to hear Molly is still with you and that she is having good days. Keep us posted about her and your surgery! 4d
dabbe Thank you for the tag, and for checking in with us on Mondays! 😍 Like @CatLass007, I abhor the heat of summer. So ironic, being born and still living in Phoenix. It was 117º yesterday with humidity at 60% (42ºC), the hottest 6/30 on record here. 😳 C'mon, October! I've avoided the news (except for Colbert's and Kimmel's monologues), and I've loved the daily joys of living with Matt and my dogs. 💙🩵💙 4d

#MentalHealthMonday

I‘m coping by staying hydrated, watching YouTube videos by licensed mental health professionals, writing, and spending time outside later. And will probably do some reading too! Oh, and being less hard on myself. Hence this book!

Anyone want to be added to my #MentalHealthMonday tagged list? Let me know!

IriDas Im supposed to be coping? Excuse me a moment **screams into the void** OK, I‘m back. 😉 Would love to be added. I‘m glad you can get some refreshment today. Much needed right now. 2w
Deblovestoread To cope I‘m taking a day off from news. I have a couple of small chores to do and then I am finishing up my cards for #SummerCardSwap. Tonight I‘m going to an outside concert with my daughter where I intend to dance with abandon and sing (badly) at the top of my lungs. 2w
dabbe I do! 🙋‍♀️ And thank you! I'm taking the dogs for a walk before it gets above 100º; then, I hope to get some housework done while jamming to my favorite 70s-80s tunes, then read in the afternoon, and watch the D-Backs. NO NEWS. Totally hiding from that. 💙 2w

dabbe @Deblovestoread I hope you and your daughter shake down that concert house! 😍 2w
CatLass007 I‘m avoiding the news as much as possible, listening to good music, and listening to good books. I also am wondering why one of my cats, Benjamin, thinks that the best time to cuddle is in the summer when it‘s 90° out. This morning when I was still in bed, he decided to climb on my pillow and press his back up against my left ear. It‘s OK I‘ve been having earache in that ear. The last few days and heat is always good for an earache. I (cont)⬇️ 2w
CatLass007 will request prayer and positive thoughts sent Molly‘s way (and mine) since her health is declining and I need to be super aware of how she‘s behaving because I think the day to take her to be euthanized will be this week. I just need to be careful not to hold onto her for too long. I have to remember that this is for her not for me. 2w
AnnCrystal @CatLass007 prayers for you both during this difficult time. Molly just needs to know you're near when she does journey on 😢🙏🏼🫂💝. (edited) 2w

Love this song about being the family scapegoat & ending generational trauma.

Healing what's broken 'fore I'm deceased
Fertilize new branches in this family tree”

No hate can't stop love

My metaphorical heart is heavy today. I‘m thinking of the people of LA.

Thanks @CatLass007 for inspiring today‘s question. Another inspiration is this song by the band Nightwish. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/yYtkPpFYzOo?si=Dq-zwTRzBJNE8s_I

CatLass007 Yay! I‘m glad you found this useful and that you shared the song. 4w
CatLass007 My heart is a little apprehensive today because I have to take Molly ❤️🙀 to have some blood drawn for labs. They asked me to sedate her so that makes me even more apprehensive because I have to sneak up on her to squirt the stuff in her mouth. So she‘s my focus for today. 4w

My apologies for asking the same questions two weeks in a row. They‘re the only ones that came to mind.

1. Mixed feelings as usual. Sad & angry about the state of the country. Happy it‘s a good day for gardening. Happy my husband has the day off & we‘re spending it together.
2. I‘m focusing on what I can control.

CatLass007 1) I have a consultation with the surgeon tomorrow about the surgery that needs to be done on my stomach. While I am not looking forward to it, by any means, I do anticipate that my questions will be answered. Ask me again on Wednesday how I am (cont)⬇️ 1mo
CatLass007 feeling. 2) I am working very hard not to worry about something that‘s coming up when the surgery hasn‘t even been scheduled yet. I‘m working very hard not to worry anyway, but turn to my faith in God for comfort. I am concerned, which I think is reasonable, but worry is not a particularly healthy emotion. 1mo
CatLass007 Hey Kerry! I love that even when you feel crappy that you take the time to post these. It‘s not unimaginative to ask “How are you feeling?” if you actually care and want to know the truth. Waaaay too many people ask “how are you?” but just want to hear “fine.” Why bother to ask if you don‘t want to know? But you do want to know.❤️❤️❤️ No apologies for repeating yourself are necessary. 1mo

How‘s everyone doing today? I‘m feeling a bit blah at the moment & decided to share this picture of a tulip in my yard. I find time spending time in nature helps with my mental health. How about you? Do you enjoy spending time in nature/outdoors?

CatLass007 I love tulips. We had a whole slew of them in our yard when we were growing up. If outdoor temperatures are about 75F or less, I do enjoy being outside. But if It‘s much hotter than that, I run into the air conditioning. But I love the cold and snow. At least where I live now if it‘s hot during the day, it cools off at night. When I lived in NYC, temps were 115 during the day and 112 at night. The heat has nowhere to go. 2mo

Couldn‘t finish this. I‘m sure it‘s a wonderful story, but I couldn‘t stomach the creepy guy who repeatedly harassed the main character for a date. Eventually he blackmailed her & threatened to turn her in to the police (for a crime he knew she didn‘t commit) if she wouldn‘t say yes to him. Books with characters like that aren‘t for me.

My only minor complaint is that I could tell it was written by someone who had vacationed in Maine but not lived here. Vacationing here vs living here are two different experiences, IMO.

The song is supposedly a social commentary/protest-type tune, but I have yet to discover what the social commentary/protest is about. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/making-meaning/202504/rfk-jrs-shocking-s...

lil1inblue His rhetoric is making me very nervous. The fact he thinks (and says) that autism can be/will be cured makes me suspect they're heading towards eugenics. 2mo
Kerrbearlib @lil1inblue I fear that‘s where they‘re heading as well. 2mo

#MentalHealthMonday checkin

1. Nervous about my cat‘s vet appointment. She has chronic kidney disease & I‘m worried her condition is worse.
2. I am cautious with mental health content creators. I follow some on YouTube. I try to stick to certified professionals & those who don‘t claim to have all the answers. Some of my favorites are Russell Razzaque, Patrick Teahan, & Emma McAdam. ⬇️

Kerrbearlib I love Dr Razzaque‘s video on staying sane during Trump‘s second term https://youtu.be/Nev_akLheiU?si=k33FapjYbYSkW6ms ⬇️ (edited) 2mo
Kerrbearlib Patrick Teahan did a great video for bullying survivors who were triggered by the Trump & Zelenskyy meeting https://m.youtube.com/shorts/hRx1RdatLsE?si=_aIPOP5Mh3B5uqpa ⬇️ 2mo
CatLass007 1) I‘m feeling a little sad about the passing of Pope Francis. He is the first Pope in my memory who actually cared about human rights. He wasn‘t exactly liberal but he wasn‘t anywhere near as regressive as his predecessors. I hope and pray that his successor follows in his footsteps. I was raised Catholic but I haven‘t been Catholic for decades. I don‘t even call myself a Christian anymore because I don‘t want to be associated with (cont)⬇️ 2mo

Kerrbearlib Emma McAdam gives great tips about emotional regulation, but I wish she‘d acknowledge the state of the world. I often perceive her messages as “Things are never as bad as you think” - which is irresponsible given the current political situation, IMO. That said, I do recommend her book & videos about noticing and naming emotions. ⬆️ 2mo
CatLass007 the right wing nut jobs who preach the “prosperity gospel” or who spread hatred for those who are different in some way. But I still consider myself a follower of Christ and I do pay attention to the politics of religion. 2) I don‘t follow any mental health content providers but I definitely will watch Dr. Razzaque‘s video on staying sane during Trump‘s second term. Because that‘s something with which I am struggling. 2mo
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 I didn‘t know he passed away, RIP Pope Francis. I‘ve had mixed feelings about him. I wasn‘t a fan of his take on childless people or his position on IVF. But I appreciate that he cared more about human rights than his predecessors. Hopefully his successor will care about them too. I have Christian friends who feel the same way you do about not wanting to call themselves Christians. I‘d love to hear your thoughts on the video! 2mo
CatLass007 The Catholic Church‘s position on IVF is based on its position on abortion. It‘s my understanding that multiple embryos are created and the “best” is implanted. The rest of the embryos are destroyed. My feelings about abortion are very complicated. I would never choose to have an abortion but I‘ll be damned if I‘d ever let anyone else make that decision for me. I guess I missed his position on childless people but as a proud childless cat (cont)⬇️ 2mo
CatLass007 lady I probably wouldn‘t appreciate it either. The church position regarding contraception is completely illogical. But not only do I hope his successor maintains a focus on human rights, I hope he goes even further. 2mo
CatLass007 I thought what Dr. R said is very insightful. I definitely notice how my body feels. The sight of DJT‘s face literally makes me want to vomit. The sound of his voice not only makes me want to vomit it makes my skin crawl and I almost feel like doing violence. I know that‘s my body‘s response to the rage and fear he instills in me. I don‘t watch TV news and I limit myself to looking at my newsfeed once a day. I do things I enjoy like (cont)⬇️ 2mo
CatLass007 reading and cuddling the kitties. But I need to start doing other things that I enjoy like crochet and cross stitch. I really got out of the habit for a variety of reasons and it‘s actually depriving me of an almost meditative practice. I need to exercise because I don‘t do much of anything. And I need to be around like-minded people. My old crafting group has mostly died so I need to find a new one. I know of a couple. I decided to (cont)⬇️ 2mo
CatLass007 follow Dr. R on YouTube and I think I‘ll check out the others you mentioned. 2mo
IriDas I hope your cat is OK. 2mo
Kerrbearlib @IriDas thanks ♥️ 2mo
DebinHawaii I hope your kitty‘s appointment goes okay! 💛🐱💛 2mo
AmyG I hope your cat is doing well. Mine had that. 2mo
Kshakal Sending well wishes for you and your fur baby! 💗 2mo
CatLass007 Have you gotten back from your kitty‘s vet appointment yet? What‘s the word? 2mo
Kerrbearlib @IriDas @DebinHawaii @AmyG @Kshakal @CatLass007 thanks for your kind wishes for my cat. It was a rough appointment. They did basic checkup stuff, but then Boots freaked out when they tried to draw her blood for labs. I‘ve never seen her so distressed 😭 It was really busy & they didn‘t have enough vet techs available, so we decided to reschedule the bloodwork for when it‘s quieter & more staff are available. 2mo
CatLass007 How are her veins? Drawing blood from a cat is difficult under the best of circumstances. I‘m sorry Boots had such a stressful experience.🙏🏽 Prayers for both of you. 2mo
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 take you ❤️ Her veins are OK, as far as I know. Vet didn't seem concerned. When we take her back they're going to try a smaller needle. She's had blood drawn before but never freaked out like that, so hopefully the smaller needle will help. 2mo
CatLass007 I hope so too. Did they try to draw from her neck? 2mo
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 they drew from her back leg. 2mo
CatLass007 I know that drawing it from the leg takes longer. Did they insert the needle and then she went wild? Or had they not inserted the needle at all yet? 2mo
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 they inserted it and then she went wild. She didn't go wild right away, but it didn't take long. I think it was just a few minutes. 2mo
CatLass007 I‘m so sorry. I know that it‘s rough on her because she doesn‘t understand what‘s going on. And I know it‘s rough on you for so many reasons. 2mo

Robin Gibb & his son RJ composed the Titanic Requiem for the 100th anniversary of the sinking. The song “Don‘t Cry Alone” is beautiful and haunting. #TuesdayTunes

#MentalHealthMonday check in

#1. I‘m feeling anxious & overwhelmed. There‘re lots I want to do & I don‘t know where to begin. I wish I had a personal assistant to help me stay on track. 😩
#2. It depends on the affirmation, but overall I‘m not a fan. I especially don‘t like ones about money and success. Positive thinking is helpful tool in many situations, but it won‘t make us rich or solve all our problems. ⬇️

Kerrbearlib I only use positive affirmations if they feel sincere and realistic. A part of me already has to believe them. I like some affirmations from this book. Example: “I am self-defining.” I believe this, but sometimes I forget & must remind myself.

3mo
CatLass007 I haven‘t had much sleep in the last three or four weeks. But last night I slept 2.5 and 1.5 hours, the most I‘ve slept in that entire time. It‘s still not enough but I hope I‘m turning the corner. I‘m skeptical about positive affirmations. I don‘t believe that we can “manifest” money or a good job. But if I‘m working to build different habits, improving my posture, for example, then I find they can help. 3mo
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 that‘s great you were able to get more sleep. Every bit helps! I agree that we can‘t “manifest” money or good jobs. What things do you do to improve your posture? I‘m working to improve mine as well. (edited) 3mo

CatLass007 I have a postit note at my computer and at other locations where I sit for extended periods with an affirmation that says “I have good posture.” It‘s a gentle reminder. 3mo
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 I love that - maybe I‘ll try it too! 3mo
CatLass007 I tend to beat myself up so in a situation like this I definitely believe in positive affirmations. 3mo
TheBookHippie If I was close I‘d come teach you all my organisational things 🙃 my daughter wants me to teach a class and write a book. 3mo
Kerrbearlib @TheBookHippie let me know if you write that book - I will definitely read it! 😀 What are some of your favorite organizational things? 3mo
TheBookHippie @Kerrbearlib in January I make menus for the entire year for supper only. IF I‘m feeling out of control or overly anxious - Everyday before bed I write in my todo list pad of what tomorrow looks like or needs doing and all day as I go about my life I write down what I did, end of day I compare the two lists. Every thing has a place. If it doesn‘t I make one for it- or put it in weekend chores as a problem to solve. Controlling what you can helps. 3mo
TheBookHippie Sorry for Amazon link but this is what I‘ve used for years To Do List Notepad - To Do List Notebook for Work with 52 Sheets, Undated Daily Planner Perfect for Enhanced Productivity and Goal Achievement - Serene https://a.co/d/3uK0awj 3mo
CatLass007 @TheBookHippie I use a free app on my phone, conveniently called To Do. It allows me to create separate lists and it allows me to divide tasks into subtasks. I can use it to set tasks for a specific day and tasks can be set repeat daily, weekly, monthly, or customized. Very handy. (edited) 3mo
CatLass007 Also, when a task is completed, it can be checked and then crossed off. It also makes a very satisfying “ping” when I do this. Just call me one of Pavlov‘s dogs. 3mo
TheBookHippie @CatLass007 Due to migraines I use phone little as possible 🙃 but it sounds wonderful. 3mo
CatLass007 @TheBookHippie I get migraines too but my neurologist gives me Botox for prevention. But I still try to limit my phone use. 3mo
TheBookHippie @CatLass007 No not like that. I have complex hemplic migraine syndrome. No pain. Auras and stroke like symptoms. I‘m glad Botox works for you. It‘s not an option for me. I have multiple medication allergies as well. (edited) 3mo
CatLass007 @thebookhippie Oh no. Stroke like symptoms sound scary. I‘ve never had auras but I know someone who does. Her migraines always start with auras, which she liked the first time she had one. But when it moved on to pain she didn‘t like it all. She always has an aura before the pain which gives her advance warning so she can take her migraine med before the pain starts. She only gets about one a year though. I think I could live with that. (edited) 3mo

The RMS Titanic struck an iceberg at 11:40 pm on April 14, 1912. She sank at 2:20 am on April 15, 1912. Survivor Lawrence Beesley wrote a memoir that I wish was required reading in schools. It includes important lessons that are relevant today. Beesley doesn‘t just look at those directly involved with the tragedy. He looks at society‘s involvement as well. ⬇️

Kerrbearlib I love this quote about a man he met on the Carpathia who recognized his indirect role in the sinking. The man had demanded faster travel for his own convenience and thrown fits when he didn‘t get it. Other travelers had done the same, thinking of their own convenience rather than the safety of others. Their collective selfish and impatience played an indirect role in the Titanic tragedy. 3mo
