Bookwomble I like this one. His "mainstream" books are good. 6y
Pruzy Great hashtag! 6y
dystopianaut @Bookwomble so do i! i was sort of dreading reaching the point of reading his mainstream novels- and feeling guilty about feeling that way- but i‘ve actually really liked them all! such interesting character studies. they also give such a clear glimpse into the time they were written. i only have one left now- “mary and the giant”, which i‘m currently reading. have you read it? 6y

dystopianaut @Pruzy thank you so much! i‘ve spent the last year working through PKD‘s oeuvre, hence #myPKDjourney. only 4 left to read!!! then onto his short stories. 🙂 do you have a favorite PKD? 🖤 6y
Bookwomble @dystopianaut Yes, but many years ago when it first came out in Picador, so I don't remember a great deal about it. It's the record store one isn't it? I think it draws a lot on PKD's experience working in a record shop. 6y
dystopianaut @Bookwomble yes it is! i‘ve loved reading all of his books back-to-back because it really highlights all the recurring themes, names, places, characters, etc and also makes you realize just how much he draws from his own life experiences. 5y
Pruzy @dystopianaut Yes! Now Wait for Last Year was one of my favourites, as was The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch. What did you think of these two? 5y
dystopianaut @Pruzy i love both of those! my favorite PKDs are the ones where he REALLY blurs the lines of reality, constantly shifting back and forth to disorient & unnerve the reader, which he does very well in both of those. two of my other favorites for that reason are ubik (of course) and maze of death. 🖤 5y

a HUGE thank you to @Chrissyreadit @CSeydel @BookwormAHN @LeahBergen @Cinfhen & @Jess7 for encouraging me to purchase books from book depository! 💜 i ordered these sweeties less than two weeks ago & they‘re already here! i can‘t wait to get started! 😍💕 #myPKDjourney

LeahBergen Yay! 👏🏻👏🏻 I‘m so glad (and I‘ll also say “sorry” in advance; I order SO many books from them and now you might, too 😆😆). 6y
Pruzy Yes! The variety of PKD books that are available on Book Depository is amazing! Way better selection than what is available in NA! 6y
Cinfhen Yay!! Two weeks is pretty good turn around 👍🏻enjoy 😁 6y
BookwormAHN Yay, enjoy 👏🏻 6y
dystopianaut @greeniezona they were all written in the 50s/60s and were published posthumously! i‘m on a mission to read all of PKD‘s novels (currently sitting at 33/44) so i‘ve been looking for these guys for awhile! can‘t wait to read them. 😍 have you read most of his work? 6y
dystopianaut @Chrissyreadit thank you!!! can‘t wait! 😍 6y
dystopianaut @CSeydel thank you so much again! ☺️💕 6y
greeniezona Not most, but a bunch. 6y
dystopianaut @LeahBergen ohhhhh yeah, my book depository “wishlist” is already out of control. 😂😳🙈 thank you so much again!!! 🖤 6y
dystopianaut @Pruzy i had no idea! i‘ve been looking for these for awhile and couldn‘t believe it when i found them! and oh boy, the selection of different covers/editions they have of his other works...... i think i‘m in trouble. 😳😂 6y
dystopianaut @Cinfhen i couldn‘t believe they got here so fast! will definitely be buying from them again. thank you!! 💜 6y
dystopianaut @greeniezona he‘s a real gem. i can‘t get enough! which is your favorite that you‘ve read? 6y
greeniezona I found a list over on listchallenges.com (I love that site), and it appears I‘ve read 12 of his books so far, a few of them more than once, and of course, a bunch of his short stories. If pressed to choose just one favorite, it would probably be A Scanner Darkly, but I love Valis and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep as well. How about you? 6y
dystopianaut @greeniezona ooooh fun, i‘ll have to check out that site! 🙂 those are all great picks! valis is fascinating, and i think by reading it you‘re able to get a lot more out of his other works... it adds another layer to everything. it‘s so hard to pick a favorite, but i think i‘d have to go with ubik. i also really love martian time-slip, maze of death, & flow my tears! 🖤 6y

greeniezona This is a great opener. This was the most recent PKD book I‘ve read, I read it over Christmas. 6y
dystopianaut @greeniezona right?! so good! PKD knows how to get you hooked within the first few sentences. one of my all time favorite book openers is a scanner darkly‘s opening! 🦟🖤 6y

hi, litsy friends! 👋🏻 i need your help/advice/opinions..... have any of you ordered from book depository before? they have some hard-to-find PKD books that i‘ve been looking for, but it looks like the company doesn‘t have the best reviews. i know they‘re owned by amazon, so i was surprised to see such negative reviews. what has your experience been with them? i need these books but i don‘t want to get scammed! 😬 thanks in advance! 🙂💜

Vexingcircumstance Is it it‘s own website or do they sell on Amazon? The name sounds familiar but I don‘t know if I‘ve ordered from them for sure. With the exception of self published books and some indie press books I almost exclusively buy used books, so I‘ve seen the good and bad. Pretty often bad reviews are out of context. People will buy a used book then leave negative reviews because the book looks used. Etc. 6y
Vexingcircumstance I‘ve even seen people on amazon leave sellers back feedback because they just didn‘t like the book or movie they ordered. :/ 6y
Chrissyreadit I‘ve ordered from them for an international swap. 2 books arrived in 4 weeks, two books arrived this month- all 4 were ordered in October. So I consider them unreliable, although I do not know if shipping is typically difficult- @Tanisha_A may have a better perspective? 6y
See All 21 Comments
CSeydel I‘ve ordered from them with no problems. I think a lot of Littens order from there for swaps because of their free international shipping. (edited) 6y
dystopianaut @Vexingcircumstance it‘s a company owned by amazon, so they have their own website. they don‘t sell used books, they‘re all new. the negative reviews aren‘t about the content or the condition of the books, it‘s that the books never arrived... which is what made me nervous that it was a scam! 😬 thanks for your suggestions & insight! 🖤 6y
dystopianaut @Chrissyreadit thanks for sharing your experience! the negative reviews were about shipping times & books never arriving.... so it‘s good to hear that yours at least arrived, albeit very late!! luckily, since i‘m just adding to my collection of books i plan on reading (versus buying it as a gift or something that‘s time sensitive), i‘m not super worried about the actual shipping time, i just really want to make sure i will eventually 6y
dystopianaut @Chrissyreadit receive them! so i‘m happy to hear yours (finally) arrived! 😁 thank you again! 🖤 6y
dystopianaut @CSeydel thank you so much for sharing your experience with them! it‘s reassuring to hear you haven‘t had any problems with them and that a lot of littens order from them! thanks again! 🙂🖤 6y
BookwormAHN I ordered from them a few times. I haven't had any problems with them. The shipping however is really slow. 6y
CSeydel I‘ve noticed people complaining that the shipping times have gotten longer. I‘m trying to think who uses Book Depository a lot ... @Jess7 maybe, @LeahBergen , @Cinfhen ? 6y
LeahBergen @CSeydel I‘ve ordered from them for years and have never had a problem (other than the very slow shipping). I believe they can offer free shipping on all their books by using the cheapest shipping method possible (thus, the lengthy wait time). I‘ve contacted them once (twice, maybe?) about a book that hasn‘t arrived and they immediately reshipped a new one (and then the first showed up! They told me to gift it to a friend 😄). So, yes! 👇🏻 (edited) 6y
Cinfhen I order from them a lot!!!! I‘ve never had any problems and the one time there was an issue which wasn‘t even their fault they sent me a new book without any reservations. My only “complaint” shipping is inconsistent. Sometimes it takes 4- 6 weeks and sometimes just 4-6 days!! But mostly the international shipping takes 2-3 weeks but it‘s ALWAYS FREE and NO MINIMUM REQUIRED!!! Don‘t hesitate - they are the real deal 6y
LeahBergen I recommend them but not if you need a book in a hurry. 6y
LeahBergen @Cinfhen I see we were both reviewing them at the same time. 😆 6y
LeahBergen @Cinfhen Hey! You split my “continued” comment! 😉 6y
Cinfhen We were doing some mental telepathy there @LeahBergen 🙌🏻❣️😂#mindbenders 6y
Jess7 I‘ve never had an issue with them. The only drawback I‘ve noticed is that the shipping time is always longer than anywhere else but that‘s because they ship from overseas. So you need to count of about 2-3 weeks for shipping if you live in the US. 6y
Jess7 The website is just https://bookdepository.com 6y
dystopianaut @BookwormAHN @LeahBergen @Cinfhen @Jess7 thank you all SO much for sharing your experiences with book depository!!!! you have all eased my worried mind & have convinced me to go for it. can‘t wait!! thank you all again!!! 🙂📚💕 6y
dystopianaut @CSeydel thank you so much for bringing so many people into the conversation! i really, really appreciate it! 🖤 6y
CSeydel Glad to help! Good luck with your book 💕📚 6y

Creadnorthey Man who japed- haven‘t read it but was always intrigued by the title. 6y
Bookwomble I'd recommend going with The Man in the High Castle next - love that story and it's many layers. 6y
See All 10 Comments
dystopianaut @Creadnorthey very intriguing indeed! the general premise sounds slightly similar to eye in the sky. have you read that? 6y
dystopianaut @Bookwomble i can‘t wait to read the man in the high castle! have you watched the amazon series? 6y
Bookwomble @dystopianaut Yes, I've seen it. It takes the main elements of PKD's book and does its own thing with it, but it does that very well. Rufus Sewell is fantastic, isn't he? The book is interesting in itself, but also because Dick used I Ching readings to dictate the course of the narrative. 6y
dystopianaut @Bookwomble rufus sewell is AMAZING in it. such a great actor! i‘ve heard it diverges from the book quite a bit after the first season (which i also think was the best season). so i‘m interested to see how much it differs. and that‘s fascinating! i didn‘t know that! 6y
Creadnorthey Inspired to continue on my journey with PKD police tears next on my list! After I finish the epic Deaths End- highly recommend! 6y
dystopianaut @Creadnorthey that‘s so great!! flow my tears is one of my absolute favorites- definitely in my PKD top 5. can‘t wait to hear what you think of it! 🖤 and i‘m going to have to look up death‘s end! thanks for the recommendation. 🙂 6y
Creadnorthey The 3 body problem trilogy is great so far- be warned though it‘s “hard” sci-fi much of the time- not a usual prerequisite for me- so a sight different than PKD who leaves some of the science behind for a better possible story 6y

dystopianaut @Creadnorthey haha i know! 😂 i‘m just past the halfway point but i still have a looong way to go. 🖤 what‘s your favorite PKD novel?! (edited) 6y
Creadnorthey Ubik hands down though it has a lot to do with the time period when I read it and the fact that it was one of the first PDKs I read. 6y
See All 7 Comments
dystopianaut @Creadnorthey i think ubik is probably my favorite so far, too! 🖤 but it‘s so hard to choose just one!!! 😩 have you also read the ubik screenplay? 6y
Creadnorthey No figures it would be the same... what about it? 6y
dystopianaut @Creadnorthey i haven‘t read it yet but i plan to! supposedly the ending differs a bit from the original and there‘s additional scenes & more humor. based on interviews with PKD, it seems like he was really proud of it so i look forward to reading it! 🖤 6y
Creadnorthey I‘m about to start reading this... tell me is this a relatively straightforward PKD or not- I need more story less weird right now... recommend?🖤 5y
