Vol. 3 went a bit too meta for my taste, but, you guys.
This book. This fucking book. If you haven't read this series (and if your sensibilities aren't too delicate- let's be real, these books are filthy) go read it right now. #recommendsday #highbrowlit

AmandaL I just ordered volumes 1-3. 8y

No wonder the library doesn't have this one. Look at all that stuff!

BookishFeminist One of my local libraries did an excellent job of stapling/taping the pieces to the inside of the book in a way that keeps them in the right place & useable but didn't mess the book or pieces up. I am in awe. 👍🏼 8y
becausekafka Impressive! Librarians are the best. 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I started this one over a year ago, and DNF but I will pick up again, eventually. Love JJ Abrams! Fringe❤️ 8y

Holy Hard Sci-Fi, Batman! I like space, and I like science. But I just can't with this one.

A Little Life remains the only book that has ever made me cry. So when I heard @rebeccaschinsky say it was the first book to make her cry since Matterhorn, I decided to challenge my frigid robot heart. Bring on the tears!

MyBookLife I like books that brings out feelings, but I don't like to read tearjerkers. But this I want to read!! 8y

This one is keeping me company on a night shift. A lot of people have recommended it, but I'll go ahead and attribute it to @Liberty because, let's be honest, she influences most of what I read.

Chelsey I know those feels 8y

I don't understand why, when your family throws you a birthday party and gives you books as gifts, it's considered rude to immediately ignore everyone and begin reading?

The Lifespan of a Fact | John D'Agata, Jim Fingal
post image
Pickpick

This book documents the fact-checking process of an essay by John D'Agata. John's defense for his wording reminds me of O'Brien's argument in The Things They Carried that facts are more true when embellished just enough to elicit the appropriate emotional response. Super interesting read.

Here's to the Expanse series for being so diverse! And to howtopronounce.com for helping with names like Supitayaporn, Praxidike, and Avasarala. I got Miller all on my own though--no assistance necessary. 😎

Clearly I would make a terrible Pulitzer picker. Also, I will never be on board with the stylistic choice to drop quotation marks. The divide between speech and narration is clear, but still. We are not animals; we live in a society!

MyBookLife 😂😂😂 9y
Notafraidofwords 🤓love love that. So true! There are rules people!!!!! Lol 9y

Megabooks I hate books with no quotation marks. I've been known to quit because of it! 9y

I enjoyed this, but was somewhat underwhelmed considering all its praise. HOWEVER. As an audiobook, this was excellently produced. I struggle to focus with audio, but these narrators pulled me into the story so well that I forgot everything else...like what I was supposed to be doing at work. Oops.

Kbanski This is interesting because this has been a TBR for me for a long time but I never seem inclined to actually pick it up 9y
Orbeck33 I felt it was pretty underwhelming as well. More of a beach-read type book thank anything else. Fluffy. 9y

A fantastic space opera with mystery, politics, and realistic physics! Though it could also pass as a collection of short stories about the many truly terrifying ways to die in space.

A bit confused by the TV casting of Ade, a character described as having a "thick Nigerian accent" and with a distinctly Nigerian name.

Dreamers of the Day: A Novel | Mary Doria Russell
post image

My first Mary Doria Russell is also her lowest rated on GoodReads. If this is her 'worst,' I'm excited for more Russell!

tracyrowanreads She's quite versatile, but this book is less emotionally driven than politically, and I think that fails to resonate with a lot of readers who want another "Sparrow." 8y

I will give Murakami the benefit of the doubt and say this book was probably better in the original Japanese. Awkward sexual translations abound!
