This was a wonderful book. I loved all of the characters, their friendships, their honest discussions with each other. #felixeverafter #pridemonth #translivesmatter

“Deep understandings of racist violence arm us against deceptive solutions. When we are told that we simply need better police and better prisons, we counter with what we really need...We will say demilitarize the police, disarm the police, abolish the institution of the police as we know it, and abolish imprisonment as the dominant mode of punishment. Be we will have only just begun to tell the truth about violence in America.” -Angela Y. Davis
3.5 stars. This was a good book. Attica Locke is skillful at constructing setting, atmosphere, and those complicated, nuanced relationships that are so hard to capture in writing. #audiobook #litsyatoz
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 I wanted to like this book more than I actually did, but I still enjoyed the journey and learned a lot. It‘s quite dense and kind of confusing at times, so close reading is required! Recommended for anyone who loves history and loves nonfiction. #nonfiction #witches
Aww this was a really sweet story about love and friendship. It‘s NOT what I would consider a romance, and it is pretty sad. But it‘s really great contemporary lit! And the narrator is awesome. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 #audiobooks #quarantinereads
Finally getting around to this audiobook! I‘ve liked Alexa Martin‘s previous two books, so I‘m sure I‘ll enjoy this one. 😊 #romance #audiobook #quarantinereads
Another #quarantineread to clear up my TBR and physical bookshelf. It‘s alright so far, but nothing spectacular. The character development is not that great and the pacing of the story feels rushed/stilted. Like...am I supposed to care deeply about Consuelo? Because I‘m not connecting 😖
Meh. I didn‘t enjoy The Alchemist, so why did I even read this? Not sure but it was on my bookshelf and I‘m in quarantine. I‘m also not religious so this book is probably great for some people, just not for me. #quarantinereads
Next up: this fluffy read. I‘m about 60 pages in and it‘s light and entertaining. #1920s #quarantinereads
Wow.
This was pretty good. It didn‘t captivate and immerse me in quite the same way as Uprooted, but it was still entertaining. Hope everyone is staying safe and staying home. 📚 #fantasyreads #retelling
I‘m trying to marathon this audiobook because it‘s due in 24 hours! Will I make it?! It‘s alright...very book-club-y if that makes any sense. #audiobook
I enjoyed this bio! Milicent Patrick led such an interesting life, & O‘Meara did a great job bringing her accomplishments & career to light. Some criticize the book for going on tangents, & I agree with that. I feel like lot of that info was added as filler because not enough was available about Milicent. I do also feel that O‘Meara made some assumptions about people & their feelings, which I found entertaining but kind of inappropriate for a bio.
I enjoyed this story, but I didn‘t love it like I wanted to for some reason. 🧐 something was...missing? I‘m going to be mulling this over for a bit, but Aster is a great character, and the story is engrossing.
Hmm I wanted to like this book much more than I did. I loved two of the stories, and liked most of the other ones. Some of the retellings were just meh. I think my expectations were just set too high based on the hype I had been hearing about it.
Jumping RIGHT into book number two! I‘m listening to the audiobook this time around. I‘m hoping I enjoy it as much as reading a physical text version! #audiobook
This was soooo gooooood!! 😍 A bit heavy on centering White Christian culture, and it got annoying to constantly read about how “plain” the main character was, but besides those two things I absolutely loved this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Loving this second book in the Playbook series! I‘m about halfway through. It‘s different enough from Intercepted that I‘m not bored, but Alexa still has the same fun dialogue and character development. #romance #audiobook
This was meh. It‘s entertaining if you‘re looking for an easy thriller, but it‘s nothing groundbreaking. #audiobook (TW for a disturbing sexual assault)
So, so good. It took me two years and one hour of just sitting down without my phone to finally read this.
This was such a sweet romance novel! I loved every second of it, and the characters were all likable in a realistic way. Definitely want to read her newest book next! #romance #litsyAtoZ
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5! I thoroughly enjoyed this memoir! Tan‘s voice is amazing and the book is light hearted and fun while touching on some more serious aspects of his life. I feel like it didn‘t go as “deep” as Karamo‘s memoir, but that doesn‘t mean it‘s any less substantial. I actually kinda enjoyed this book a bit more! #audiobook #queereye #litsyAtoZ
3.75 stars. I love every member of the Fab 5, so I went in knowing I‘d enjoy this book. There were some parts of Karamo‘s story that seemed glossed over and self-serving, but all in all it was an informative memoir about his life growing up, his career, and his experience becoming a father. #audiobook #queereye
I‘m Michigan for the first time, relaxing on the outside patio of my hotel. FINALLY getting around to book #5 in the Codex Alera series. Maybe I can finish the whole series this year?? #fantasy #summerreads
3.75 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed this story! Scenes that were steamy enough to put the book in the freezer afterwards, plus well developed characters and a plot with substance. I really liked the little plot twist at the end. #audiobook #romance
Meh, it was alright. The characters were two-dimensional and the plot was so-so. Entertaining enough to finish it, but not good enough to recommend to anyone.
About halfway through this #audiobook and it‘s entertaining. I‘m not sure I‘m suuuper into it, but I‘ll definitely finish it!
Loved this Pride & Prejudice retelling! The classic storyline fits perfectly in to this updated setting and (better) characters. #audiobook
I‘m almost done with this one, and I‘m enjoying it so far. Not my super favorite, but it‘s entertaining! #audiobook #litsyAtoZ
I listened to this on audio and it was so, so good. I love all of Rainbow Rowell‘s books, I‘ve come to learn. She captures the feeling of young love and being a teenager/young person so well, I can‘t help but fall into her stories. #audiobook #litsyAtoZ
This book is deep in my wheelhouse. Fantasy mixed with history, fun plot twists, and tons of action. Loved it! #litsyAtoZ
Getting some reading done before I start my day. I have a soft spot for formula reads, anyone else? #litsyAtoZ
10/5 stars I LOVE N.K. JEMISIN. I‘m so glad I have finally gotten around to starting the Broken Earth trilogy. Jemisin‘s world building and the themes she explores in her books are 👌
So, so good. Manus & All the Names for God were my favorites.
“Ghost stories are about how we face, or fail to face, the past- how we process information, how we narrate our past, and how we make sense of the gaps in that history. Besides, even if we could dispel them once and for all, we need them too badly.”
This is really dense and it‘s taken me months to get through it, but it‘s really good. Definitely for people who LOVE historical fiction.
This was a fast listen. What a weird dude. All he wanted was to be left alone 😕
THIS WAS SO GOOD! And I had no idea that the sequel is being published soon! 🙃
Finally reading this after starting it like 5 years ago! #wheelhouse
I love historical fiction, so when I found this ART historical fiction for only a dollar, I was all about it!
This was a touching, melancholy, and funny graphic autobiography. I usually fly through graphic novels, but I had to take my time with this one.
This was a very interesting history of the Boxer Rebellion. US students (at least where I went to school) learn about this period of Chinese history only briefly, and of course the brutality that people lived through and experienced is glossed over in textbooks. I went ahead and borrowed Saints from my library right after I finished this!
Picked this up for $1 at my library years ago, and it‘s pretty good!
