I‘ve known romances happen in Academia (what a juxtaposition!) but this is the first story that I‘ve read that depicts such a situation. Enjoyable page turner, certainly relatable on maybe not the plot but more the thoughts that women have and things women go thru in the workplace. Hopeful and fun all around.

A couple and their dogs move to a house in need of repair. It seems rather mundane, but we‘re shown the poetic nature of living life for this particular story set here at this time. That said, if it sounds a bit on the boring side, it is. Slowly moving along, the characters, or the house happens upon life and noted observations — commenting and taking it in as it comes and meanders through. (Continued in comments)

SnowEcho The book is comically easy to put down. But lyrical passages can sink and grab hold of the reader, to be read again and again. It is surely a different type of read, more evoking a feeling than anything else, at least for this reader. 14mo

Could not put it down. Some themes touched on, as a stream of consciousness: Life and death. Love and loss. Food as love, warmth and laughter — and emotional fuel. Ambition as the motivation of doing vs what is done for the love of it, the curiosity that leads to creating. What makes you, uniquely you. How does that change over time and what stays the same? It‘s a neat fun package to follow this story — and provoke those musings in your own story

The memoir starts off strong then devolves into reflections as in a diary and not the stories that we saw at the start. And the stories were not an easy subject matter, to boot.

Still a worthwhile read and some life learned lessons or wisdom found.

Mostly a tale about a group of college friends who grow apart due to growing up after the college years and the issues that come with it. Takes place in the present day with flashbacks to the college days upon which friendships were built. Growing apart with time is a very relatable theme of life and the story moves well, mainly centered on the characters themselves and not super plot driven. (Continued in the comments)

SnowEcho That said, there were some repeated sentiments of the main characters and it was maybe longer than it should have been. It probably would have served us well to look at the thought lives of the other characters to give them some development. Still an enjoyable read, I might still have liked Book Lovers more than this, but enjoyed this book more than people we meet on vacation. 1y

A full memoir, one that‘s heartbreaking but depicts Real life…which is messy, miserable, and traumatic on many levels…the narrator is just trying to keep it all together like the rest of us. What I got from this is that We all have our shit but hopefully the journey has meaning, shaping us…hoping to come out on the other side…And hopefully not unscathed (bc for sure we will be affected) but undeterred from doing the work to help our future selves.

Milena I listened to the audiobook practically straight through. I‘m happy she is finding inner peace. This makes me wonder about the lives of other child stars… between her mom and the creepy directors and show creators…eek. 14mo
SnowEcho Yeah it‘s certainly a quick read and good to know it‘s also a quick listen. It seems like the child demographic is incredibly easy for people like the Nickelodeon producer or show runner to take advantage of. And having a momager seems terrible as they clearly have conflicting interests as a manager and as a mom. Seems to simply invite poor choices. That‘s not discounting some of the mom‘s seriously abusive behavior. Ugh. It‘s rough. 13mo

A cute and slow romance with two unique protagonists (with the alpha female front and center) and their quirky ways… filling the void with their unconventional constant banter with humor filled to the brim. An additional side story about a lil mystery of the sister 👩🏻 ! I enjoyed the worlds colliding and the family members of each protagonist taking part. Much more enjoyable & meaningful than “people we meet on vacation”! Give this one a chance

A crazy proposition, a number of plot elements to keep track of. While I would have liked and understood more detail to the side plots, this was a fun page turner. I don‘t think it‘s a sequel to the kiss quotient that I got to read years ago,… but the characters here are human, decent, and lovely to get to know. Started and completed in less than a day!

There are so many gold nuggets peppered throughout this one. A deep dive on things touched on in her book “Becoming” to find the things that matter and understand why they matter, especially with the perspective of the pandemic 😷 clear front and center. A terrific read!

Had read “My name is Lucy Barton” back in 2016. Revisited this character to see: How does Lucy fare in the pandemic 😷? It‘s surreal to read about the pandemic in the same way it‘s surreal to listen to music about it, and it‘s front of mind while reading. Lucy‘s story continues to be refreshing. I‘m sure this won‘t be the last one I read on Covid and its impacts. It‘s a page turner; and it‘s all over before one can blink!

All was laid out there, for the moments that could be divulged. And it was a great read. I could feel the sorrow, the anger, the rage, the humor, and everyday people in this family that happens to be royal. got to see the Netflix and Oprah specials to introduce the subject matter of the press and their part. From his mother the Princess Diana and the subsequent headlines, all is touched on or elaborated on. It‘s fascinating and heartbreaking.

An important story to understand and to remember that women continue to be subjected to all types of abuse and harassment. I listened to Kara‘s story, and while I can appreciate was accurate and source-checked with supporting evidence, it is also on the dry side. Regardless, important to know how it went down and continues now. I would have preferred being placed in the moment of vivid happier memories, but it was succinct and gut wrenching!

Quick and to the point read, we get to experience the 2018 marathon with winner 🥇 Des Linden on that day with storm like weather, we also learn of her background and everything that led to this point and the people who had her back and those that didn‘t. It is not as personal of a story as I‘d like but the story moves quickly and it‘s a satisfying read

Bridgeside books: thanks for the recommendation! Read this little page turner during a camping trip just outside Waterbury where this takes place! Vermont ideals, characters who are real, in a story that could have been me or the person next door. There‘s a moment when a beloved pet gets lost, definitely understand the terror from how much owners love their pets here!!! Finished this in less than a day. Great read!

There‘s some nuggets of wisdom here! If it‘s been hard to action on any type of lifestyle change, this should help with respect to process and how to effect change on one‘s life … there are slow parts but the good part is they are over quickly and before we know it, we‘re reading about the next thing…

Gripping read. Took me awhile to figure out what was happening when the author jumped around. Less on character development, more on the pain of living life and making choices. Definitely have questions as to what happened to many of the characters and also what the characters end up knowing or not knowing.

If you haven‘t devoured this yet, what are you waiting for? There‘s so much humor and irony here. He lets us in, but only so much. Goodness there was a lot in here. I relished each page. This was a literary work, a non fiction work, but the stories told were compelling of the heart as well as who we are as people of this world and country. reads like an action thriller with power money mob mentality and supernatural thrown in - not much soul, trying to have a conscience but not a believable one. just trying to be clear about expectations - I was entertained! I‘d recommend this for something absorbing - Not exceptionally thought provoking stuff but still a fun quick read. Felt kinda john Grisham like, which I enjoy - except no lawyers - but you get a former banker. Try it :)

It‘s such a beautifully told and also very imaginative story that really captivated me at every turn. It goes back in time and comes back to the present often. It‘s also a coming into your own and coming of age tale. Taking ownership and becoming an adult that way. Also there are some racial items touched on as the characters are of Asian and Latin descent. The descriptions and memories were so well done. Thoroughly enjoyed this YA fiction debut.

The world building of stinking rich folks and their problems. It was comical, full of drama and fashion. I loved all the footnotes and relished them at the end of each chapter. I LoL‘ed at the ridiculousness. I can totally tell how horrid some of these characters are but I suppose it‘s more fun watching it unfold rather than having to interact with people like them. I can‘t wait to read the first 2 books and to watch the movie!

It was slow to start but soon I couldn‘t put it down. You go thru all the feelings of losing a loved one, feeling conflicted about speaking up as it could mean your family‘s death or your own. You see the black cop side, you see the child‘s view, you see what the parents siblings and community go thru. There‘s bigotry, poor choices, solidarity and strength. It does get slow in spots, but it‘s mainly a teachable read that is sufficiently gripping.

Amusingly written and told story from a 10-12 yo perspective, of characters who seem so painstakingly real. I fell in love with each of the Babbitt family and the people that fall into their lives. I couldn‘t put it down, watching this family grieve in a totally human way. They made me laugh, feel sadness, and simply feel human as they journeyed the aftermath.

Well now I have to read the #2 sequel!

Stream of consciousness:
Gripping, an action packed story, full of magic as well as prejudices, desire, hate, a fighting female protagonist. It does start slow.

It was a little confusing with the world building in addition to story building. Going from passive scene to fight scene was often immediate with no buildup whatsoever. It felt YA-like , but like I said, gripping. Totally enjoyable. Read it!

A touching story of people and nature. Things liked: the format of how the story was told, the suspension of disbelief I was required to possess, the heart behind it all, the language used to tell the stories. Weaknesses: power source from bugs in jars without much explanation. It felt rushed/forced in this section, not as well researched maybe? And-That the town became scared of the boys. In sum, it was a whimsical tale that I liked living in.

Thought this would be an interesting read! Then it digressed into one characters past for awhile. It had done so as a way to tell the story and that‘s fine - but this stayed in the past for too long, explained too much, and detracted from everything else. Ending is neatly done, but less than expected. Lots of building up - but to not very much. Pacing was off. But the author is quite the talented story teller. I still enjoyed it - a 4/5
