My Beloved World by Sonia Sotomayor

“Not fear of a Cuban Revolution but fear of the Latin American revolution. “
This quote made me think of Univision and how hard it will be for latin america to have a revolution with support from the diaspora because of how Univision covers Venezuela, for example. Also, the classist comments towards AMLO supporters.

Imma keep it real with you, did not enjoy this book as much as I thought. I think the translation is a bit goofy, add to that the weird prose. I kept reading it because I love the way it describes corridos. I think it honors them very well, but I still could not get through it. This is definitely something I‘d like to try and read in Spanish :)

Excited to read from this genre known as #narcolit. I consume a lot of narco media through novelas, corridos, and the news so I am interested to see what the literature has to say. I find that this topic is better approaches through different forms of media as it is complex and tbh, sad and scary.

Wow I can‘t believe love‘s not real (yes I can!!!!). This book was filled with amazing lines but I‘ve been thinking about this one for a long long time. An amazing book though!

I used to be very excited for the day I could move out of my parents‘ house and live on my own. Now I dread it and this book reminds me of why. I‘ve learned, as Gogol did, how that is rooted in whiteness.
This is the first book I‘ve read this summer and the first book I‘ve read for fun in a very long time! I‘m surprised with how relatable it was considering the cultural difference. I love immigrant culture!!
