The premise is a goat lives on top of an apartment building in New York City, so yes, I'm reading this.

Today I installed a lamp for night reading and tonight I am taking full advantage! Got to get my Matilda Middle Grade Book Club read finished for tomorrow.
The cover of this book is quite excellent.
Perfect book to read in a cabin by the lake. Perfect reading anywhere- Gertie is equal parts strong and vulnerable, you will be rooting for her from page one.
Oh Hilda, how I love her. She reads books about rocks, she hangs bells on troll noses, she jumps on furry floaty things to get around. She befriends the creature that lives in the wasted space between your bookshelf and your wall. She is curious, adventurous and this blue-haired girl has captured my heart. A graphic novel series with a picture book trim size.
I was listening to The Yarn podcast, and they describe the scene in This One Summer where Windy is krunking, so I had to pull it out again. Yup, totally brilliant.
This is a preemptive pick as I have not technically finished it, but I am really loving it so far. I did not expect a book about crafting and cats to have me crying all the cries, but here we are. Perfect snuggly Sunday reading.
The National Post Bestseller list was from my store this week, and I'm so pleased with the list I was able to provide for children's chapter books. ❤️
New Charles Burns in the store! I know what my weekend looks like! 👀
A weird and wonderful book about a family of obsessive list-makers. The illustrations are lush and atmospheric, the characters are eccentric and detailed. Good for adult coffee tables and children's bookshelves alike.
What a beauty! Great info, broken down manageably, truly stunning illustrations. I've learned so much about sharks! Second in a series (first was a out monkeys) and I can't wait to see what is next. #kidlit
I love when characters in books are reading books. #booksinbooks
Happy Roald Dahl Day everyone! #roalddahl100 #faveclassics
Type Books is my local and my workplace! Slinging kids books here for the last 4 years and it's been glorious. #bookstorelove #septphotochallange
I'm thinking of reading this YA novel next - has anyone dug in yet???
This month's pick for The Matilda Middle Grade Book Club. This is maybe my favourite book of all time, about a brother and a sister who run away from home and go live in The Met. I read it every year. Do you have a book that is "that book"?
There are very good, very interesting things happening at Archie Comics right now. Chip Zdarsky is writing Jughead. I can't wait to dig into this one. Who knew?
I recently recommended this book on the September Canadian Children's Book Center newsletter. It's very different from the typical zany middle grade offering and I really loved it! --- This book is short, sweet, and terribly perfect. A very focused and tight study of that mind-shaking moment when a new friendship changes your entire worldview. Reminiscent of Rainbow Rowell‘s Eleanor & Park, but for a younger reader.
Reaserching early readers with lots of words. Do any teachers or parents or librarians have any suggestions? #kidlit
So this book isn't in the database so I had to pick another one by the same illustrator. How do you add a book to the list? In any case, Rose a Petit Pois is a lyrical story from Quebec's always impressive publisher La Pasteque. Quiet, simple, emotional - it reminds me of the movie Amelie. Lovely for a specific kind of kid.
I find really beautiful early readers difficult to come across, so this trilogy was a real prize. Like the first two, it follows along the same story structure as Dr.Seuss's And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street. The illustration is vintage inspired, but with a modern feeling and the design is great.
This is one of the best cookbooks I have ever used. It's genuinely easy to follow the recipes. I've learned a lot about an ingredients and cooking techniques I can apply to the way I cook and eat, not just to the specific meals inside. I haven't even made 1/3 of the recipes yet but every single one is a winner so far.
I wrote about the conclusion to Jon Klassen's picture book hat trilogy for lit mag Quill & Quire. I am constantly amazed by how much he can express with just a shift of an eyeball.
Reading this month's selection for The Matilda Middle Grade Book Club. Transit reading is maybe my favourite? Or at least close tie with afternoon cozy bed reading. Or warm afternoon on a blanket in the park reading.
Delightful. Simple text of animal-ish qualities and lush art thanks to a printing process using four different pantone colors.
I ordered this book for my store bc subject matter is perfect, and it's also so very beautiful. Flying off the shelf.
Starting this one today. I love books that are set in Toronto & this one has come highly recommended.
Another great non-fiction reference-style book from Flying Eye Books. Each animal gets it's own spread and brief description but the art is what will win you over - so lush and dynamic. A lovely book for a curious kid.
A third of the way through the new middle grade mystery by Trenton Lee Stewart & having trouble putting it down (even with the world's cutest cat trying to get my attention).
Chester Brown came by my store, drew in and signed my copy of his newest graphic novel from Drawn & Quarterly. ❤️❤️❤️
Who I am spending tonight with. Been waiting for this to arrive at the store!
I do wish these were board books and the simple words are perfect for a toddler, but honestly they are so so so beautiful I will take them in any format. More Katja Spitzer please!
Re-reading this for next week's meeting of The Matilda Middle Grade Book Club. Love it so very much. I never noticed before that (now Caldecott winner) Sophie Blackall did the cover.
Such a weird, lovely book. Very good to read aloud, the rhythm of the prose is mesmerizing.
An illustrated middle grade story of a boy who dreads being sent to distant relatives in Nova Scotia, but ends up having a magical summer. BEAUTIFUL.
