Love Sunday morning quiet time ❤ And it's perfect for a funny, but heartfelt book like this
I need a break from Swing Time (it's not catching me as much as I hoped) and figured some fabulous literary suspense might do me right. So far so great! #arc #TBRtemptation
A little Saga to close out a productive night. I just love the handwriting bits in this series. It has a great style to it. Also, this graphic novel definitely has a #dysfunctionalfamily ! #photoadaynov16 @RealLifeReading
Almost time to hit the hay 😴 but as usual, trying to capture those last few moments before sleep with a few minutes of #readinginbed. Goodnight fellow Littens! #photoadaynov16 #botm @RealLifeReading
Reading on the couch with everyone. She may look amused, but she's really, really not. She HATES bookmarks... #stuffonmycat #bookofthemonth #catsofLitsy
I'm back (again, finally) from my last major work trip of the year. This ended up being my read throughout the trip. It was a nice, easy read with a lot to say about humanity, communication, differences, and compassion. This was what I consider palate cleanser sci-fi: fresh concepts, different writing style, relatively calm plot lines, and great characters. I definitely recommend it after a heavy book (like my previous Obelisk Gate by NK Jemisin).
#bookandbrew on a plane, reading Nate Silver for the first step in dissecting why the numbers were so wrong leading up to Tuesday and Ta-Nehisi Coates for some social justice to balance out my need for math and science. #readingintheclouds
The Sandman is (one of) my #favoriteneilgaiman (but American Gods would also be represented if I had my copy right now!). In college we used to save up just to buy the next TPB. Then we'd share them until we afford the next. Soooo good. This is making me want to reread!!! #photoadaynov16 @RealLifeReading
Figured this was an appropriate mug for tonight 😔 feeling in the mood for some graphic greatness with my tea #bookandbrew #photoadaynov16 @RealLifeReading
Trying to remember my earlier #bookmail elation to get through the panic attacks I'm having right about now. At least I'll have good reading material as I work through my feelings in the next few weeks. #bookoutlet finds. I hadn't heard of them until @RealLifeReading mentioned it a couple weeks ago. Great prices!
A recent #politicalfiction read and an old favorite. I read the Lewis after it showed up on a list of books to read to prepare for election season. It's about a populist senator who is elected on his insane promises and then turns America into a dictatorship. It is truly terrifying, but ultimately hopeful. And The Dispossessed is great for anyone who wants a new perspective! #photoadaynov16 @RealLifeReading
I've seen so many great cookbooks today! I love this one, which gives you 12 basic recipes and then a myriad of ways to adjust each one. It's a great read and a great inspirer! (And it looks pretty in my kitchen.) #cookbooklove #photoadaynov16 @RealLifeReading
Now that I've thought about it I'm actually very impressed by the diversity of books we were asked to read in at my school. Older and modern, non-white authors, non-Western perspectives (although that's partly due to my taking World Lit in 10th grade). #classics #diversereads #readinschool #photoadaynov16 @RealLifeReading
Yesterday we went to Traveler's in Union, CT for lunch, where you get to take 3 free books with you. These were my picks! If you're ever in the area, definitely check it out. Their sandwiches are as great as the books. #freebooks #booksandfood! #connecticut
Day 5: In the last few years, I realize that one of my biggest pet peeves in a book is characters that do things that make no sense at all or that obviously set them up for as a scapegoat/suspect/victim/plot pusher. Thus, my (almost) #threwitacrosstheroom...I was so frustrated with the MC I could barely get into the mystery. #photoadaynov16 @RealLifeReading
Finished this in a single day last month and based on the number of people who posted it, it feels like everyone has read this, but just in case! This was incredibly spooky and original. The author definitely nailed the "unknown terror" angle.#octoberreads
Just finished this audiobook last night and it was definitely as fabulous as the first book! Listening to these definitely helped me get more chores done because I just wanted to listen to Khristine Hvam's amazing voice tell this story. As far as the actual story, it was enthralling and I loved the message, although I could have done with less love triangle... Can't wait to listen to the last one when my library gets it for Overdrive! #audiobook
Better late than never: SOME (not all) of my #NovemberTBR. The Notorious RBG is my election night read, Preacher is leftover from last month, some #nonfictionnovember in there, and I haven't even gotten my #BOTM yet!! #photoadaynov16 @RealLifeReading
I was just on a plane (from Salt Lake City) and this is what I was reading 😊 Nothing can lift my mood during a flight like a great book! I like to open the window and read in the natural light for as long as I can. #photoadaynov16 #planestrainsautomobiles @RealLifeReading
I loved this one, although I am going to be totally honest and say I know this book won't be for everyone. I loved the overarching sarcasm and jaded quality that were infused in the narrative. I loved the characters: their very human foibles, selfishness, fears, and dreams. I highly recommend it!
In other news, I've been gone for awhile, but I'm back! #octoberreads #diversereads
"You can grow up to be anything you want. Isn't that what they told you?... Except that you got it mixed up and thought it meant 'You can own anything you want.' Not the same thing, America. Nowhere near the same thing."
This book packs a punch!
Next up! Just started and it's already hilarious and compelling! #bookofthemonth #octoberreads
Loved this one. It was so emotionally powerful and beautifully written. It has a lot to say about the reality of our current condition, as well as human nature, and femininity. I highly recommend it to anyone who liked Station Eleven (although I wouldn't compare the two, they're very different stories).
"The world in which I now move is a deliberate human perversion of nature's beauty. I cannot forget this. I must accept this. I have accepted this."
I feel like Litsy is such a positive community and I haven't seen negative review yet, but I just can't give this book any higher than I have. I wasn't a fan of the writing and the story didn't hook me for very long. It was a relatively easy read and I think a lot of people will (and do, based on GR reviews) love it, but it just didn't work for me.
Reading myself to sleep is sometimes the best part of the day 🌛📚😴
