Ended up at 728 for the first two weeks. I am pretty bummed that I didn‘t even break a thousand — but I am going to ramp things up for the back half!

I made a #BookTree once & decided I am way too lazy for it. It‘s putting the books away that sucks! Anyway, last year my holiday cards & postcards from Zazzle featured book stacks & book trees. 🤷🏻‍♀️📚🎄

I picked the tagged book for its title but it looks so interesting I may need to add it to my TBR! 🌳

.5/5⭐ Quickly dives deep into the gender binary & stays. The autobiographical section starts by judging people who use anesthesia during birth (“the babies were born drugged as well“) whereas the author's mother “being the pioneer & free-thinker that she is“ chose “natural“ childbirth. Gawain describes the events of her own life through rose-tinted glasses to present herself in the best light. She uses so many words to say very little. #roll100

The Silva Mind Control Method | Jose Silva, Philip Miele
post image

I got this because I thought it would help me teach my kids strategies for studying more effectively but it seems to be leaning towards psi techniques. I could do without the first two chapters by Miele which just sell the method. I felt ‘can we just get on with it? I bought the book already‘

1/5⭐ Much more informative books on meditation/psychology exist. This one relies heavily on the law of attraction, which blames people for causing their own suffering. It asserts that the reader doesn't need to believe in anything metaphysical but says that the “universe“ will make their visualizations come true (only the positive ones, of course; harmful visualizations are a misunderstanding of karma or something). This book hasn't aged well.

Pickpick

Not the tagged book. Dying into Life is an incredible audiobook! Technically, it‘s recordings from a Ram Dass retreat in 1982. I purchased this from Audible and couldn‘t be happier. The retreat included the wisdom of Stephen Levine and Dale Borglum. As a student of Ram Dass, this audiobook offered many new experiences for me. Check out my blog post https://abookandadog.com for my review, additional resources, and YouTube video. 🧘🏻‍♀️📿🧎🏻‍♀️
